I bought cvs2 when xbox live just came out..i was really young. I couldnt do ANYTHING met a guy named calipower he told me "kid dont quit your just playing high level players" he took me in a match taught me about the grooves rolling ect..i specifically remember him trying to roll cancel.turns out you cant do it in that version of the game.i never understood it. 20 something years later i found out who calipower was...kinda blew my mind, the only reason i remember his gtag was because i had power in my name and people made fun of me and he was really cool and had power in his name..its weird the things you remember from childhood..thanks alex.

I think CvS2 is the greatest fighting game of all time at low to mid level. All the options it gives you with the legacy of both franchises perfectly implemented. It's the best package for fans. High level is dank as fuck. Pretty fun to watch.

For anyone curious about the grooves, here's a SUPER short guide to them from best to worst: #1 TOP TIER AS FUCK: A Groove (Based on Street Fighter Alpha 3 V-ISM). Pick if you love Alpha 2 and Alpha 3 custom combos and also painting your fence. #2 ALSO EXTREMELY GOOD: K Groove (Based on Samurai Shodown as well as Garou: Mark of the Wolves). Pick if you want something like P Groove but good, and also like playing Haohmaru and pressing standing fierce. #3 STILL STRONG: C Groove (Based on Street Fighter Alpha 3 A-ISM). Pick if you essentially want the most default, standard-ass groove in the game. You are Ryu in human form. #4 VIABLE, BUT STARTING TO GET SKETCHY: N Groove (Based on King of Fighters '98 Advanced Mode) My Groove of choice, personally. Pick if you're addicted to popping MAX, and/or want to play Iori because he's like the only super strong SNK character in the game. #5 OOF, THAT'S ROUGH BUDDY: P Groove (Based on Street Fighter III: Third Strike) Pick if you mistakenly thought parrying in CvS2 was going to be anywhere near as good as it is in Third Strike, you ABSOLUTE FOOL #6 ABSOLUTELY NOT: S Groove (Based on King of Fighters '94 and/or King of Fighters '98 Extra Mode) Pick exclusively if you're playing casuals and want to handicap yourself. The few characters that can make this Groove work (like Sagat, Blanka, Bison, Sagat, Sakura, Sagat, Ryu, Sagat and Sagat) also work better anyway in other Grooves so you don't even have character/Groove synergy on your side.

i Hope whenever Max talks about the grooves I REALLY HOPE he mentions the EO differences They had. Because P groove is alright in CVS2 Vanilla but in EO It got a big buff it needed and makes it feel more like 3rd Strike. the Special to super cancels makes it feel so right in EO and its weird it was never in the OG base game.

I feel like Max is in some weird FGC minority of Capcom fighting game fans that didn’t know about SNK until Capcom vs SNK came out in 2000. This is like some weird blindspot of people that were only super hardcore into Street Fighter and maybe Capcom’s Marvel stuff. I don’t think I knew anyone that didn’t know SNK games in the ‘90s, especially the early ‘90s stuff; those MVS cabinets were kind of everywhere in the early ‘90s became it was one cabinet you could put three games in. So you’d see them a lot in places like pizza places and colleges... places that had little arcade areas set up we a few machines. Like I bought Mark of the Wolves for Dreamcast at some mall GameStop while I was at a birthday party back when it was still newish, and these people I was with weren’t into fighting game anymore really, but the were still old enough to have played all the stuff that came out in the early and mid ‘90s when fighting games were still the biggest thing around, and they still remembered Fatal Fury being a thing when they saw it. Actually, Max is like the first person I ever really heard of that was so into fighting game that only came to SNK stuff way later. Like every fighting game forum I was on in the 2000s were like joint Capcom and SNK forums, where everyone seemed to be really into both.

Didn't know about SNK? Or didn't care about SNK? So I was an arcade rat from 1990, and I was there for SF2's heydey. While I knew about SNK's offerings, none of them pulled me away from Capcom's stuff aside from _Samurai Shodown_ and especially _Samurai Shodown 2_ . Never cared about Fatal Fury stuff, KoF, Art of Fighting I thought was trash, etc. And even SS series that I liked, went seriously south from SS3 onwards (SS4 was better, but still not as good as SS2). It's not that I hated on SNK stuff, I just didn't care for it. I would play once or twice then go back to what I liked from Capcom at the time, not counting _Metal Slug_ which were great (at least MS1, MS2, MSX and MS3). So while I was generally familiar with the SNK characters, it wasn't until CvS1 that I actually played with a bunch of them, like King, Vice, Yuri, Iori, Yamazaki, and my favourite, Rugal. And I still prefer the CvS2 versions of these characters to their native games even though those characters are (to varying extents) much better in their native games. Oh, aside from SS2, the only SNK game to really catch my attention was MOTW. And that was entirely due to the fact that Tizoc is as close to a Capcom-style grappler in an SNK game as you can get. Needless to say, I'm very much looking forward to COTW and I really hope it blows up for SNK like Strive did for ArcSys.

Problem with introducing one button moves to games where it wasn't designed for it is that it completely breaks the game without serious balancing. Example: KOF 97 on PS1 allowed this (called Shortcut). It completely broke characters like Shingo who become unstoppable at 10% health. Thoughts?

You're 100% right. And all you are doing is actually THINKING. While others that support it don't think at all, they just go with whatever flow. Which is a form of a slave "I just do whatever my master tells me to do without thinking". Groove tiers imo: S tier: A-groove (roll cancelling, 70% combos with some characters) A tier: K-Groove (just defend, low jumping, run, strong super damage) C-groove (Level 2 cancelling, roll cancelling, air guard) B tier: N-groove (used to be super popular when the game first came out, fell off probably because of the lack of defensive options and limited Lvl 3 super usage due to the time limit. Low Jump, roll cancelling, running) C: P-groove (strongest Super damage in the game, but not many sub options and the parry window is a lot smaller than 3rd Strike. Plus, it's 1 long bar so you only have 1 super most of the time) S-groove (unlimited lvl 1 supers only with low health and Dodge isn't as good as rolling. Too much work to build super) But I have seen people make P and S work EDIT: I was wrong about P groove having the strongest super😅 That's K groove

DNF died because it was fucking garbage. Strive and Granblue are easy as hell and still going strong. You people are delusional if you think macros kil fighting games, SF6 is not going to die any time soon because of Modern Controls. Roll cancelling fucking sucks and making it easier just means I have to see it more. Also sho sho sho without the execution requirement is FUCKED. Not so much because of the damage but guard bar, do you really want a world where anyone can pick sak second and get a perfect guard crush set up ? Even sho sho sho the timing is much tighter for the guard crush than to get it to just combo so the guard crush you rarely get to see even at top level. If you can just frame perfect sho sho or iori DP loop it’ll be a case of activate (with I frames) and then die

RC'n is not going to save Kyosuke and King from being bad. Blanka with easy mode electricity and blanka ball will not be fun for anyone. Hey Max, do you think it would be possible for them to do an Edition Select where players can choose the EO versions of grooves and characters independently? I don't think it's being talked about enough on how allowing EO and AC to co-mingle would WILDY open up the games roster not unlike EX characters do for CvS1. Imagine P groove with Super Cancels vs A groove with roll cancels? Imagine using the buffed mid tiers against god tier Sagat? It could really create a new fresh gameplay experience so long as people could choose at each point.
