Holy crap, you went all out here with the history and development. Well done! I've had this one since I was very, very young, and I always loved it. I'm pretty sure this is almost everyone's favorite Capcom developed Disney game, although some would probably pick either Rescue Rangers or Aladdin instead. I really wish Capcom would return to making Disney games, as they did such a fantastic job with them. Every Disney title they did after 1995 has not been anything new and original. There were 3 exceptions, but they were nothing major. Magical Tetris was just another version of Tetris with Disney characters thrown in, and although the 2 Gamecube games were original and very well done, they were clearly meant only for young children. It's crazy how much most of these kids games have been dumbed down since the NES, SNES, and even N64 days.

Great video! Wang Film Productions was only one of the many international animation studios that contributed to the original DuckTales show. Probably the most prominent of them all was Japan based Tokyo Movie Shinsha (TMS Entertainment), best known for several Lupin the 3rd projects, Akira, Little Nemo and several episodes of American shows throughout the 80’s and 90’s like The Real Ghostbusters, New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, Tiny Toon Adventures, Batman: the Animated Series and the original Animaniacs among many others. They animated most of the first 65 episode season while Wang Film mostly worked on the last two seasons.

This is a game I wished I grew on. I didn’t play a lot of NES games in general. But I’ve been a huge fan of the Ducktales show. Scrooge McDuck is my favorite Disney character. I couldn’t wait for the remaster going in being aware how cherished the nes original is. I know some people complained the remaster being too cinematic, and being too nostalgia over the music being remade since it’s so held as the greatest piece of gaming music. But I appreciate it for what it aimed to do the way it expands the story, and being even more directly represented of the show. Awesome piece of history on this game too. Based on the remaster alone I had tremendous fun with this game. But I did get hands on the original game, and enjoyed it too. I wish the remaster would get a current gen port. And I wouldn’t mind more Disney Capcom remakes either. This game aside, I really enjoyed Goof Troop for SNES. Great review. I also really missed the era when Konami made amazing licensed WB games. Those were my jams.

But I owned the Game Boy version as a kid, and loved it. I also loved the Remaster, when I bought it for Wii U. I don't remember where I read or heard it, but I vaguely remember something about the Mega Man engine that they tweaked for DuckTales was what they developed for Mega Man 2. Pretty obvious now, comparing the games, but as a kid, I didn't notice. I was just happy to play the game, since it was one of my favorite cartoons. I even remember watching the DuckTales movie where they introduced Gizmo Duck.

Duck Tales and Rescue Rangers are my favorites of that era. Oh, does this video bring back memories! I may be partial towards Duck Tales though because it is so charming. It had an adventurous feel that the other “Discom” titles never quite achieved. And all that catchy music! It was also one of the first games I played to completion on NES. And, of course, I happen to be a huge fan of the show as well as the DOS game (again, one of the first titles I ever played on PC). Regarding the pogo stick, I found it the other way round. It came almost natural on NES (after a bit of frustration) but felt hopelessly complicated in the Afternoon Collection. I haven’t played the remaster yet so I can’t compare with that. I guess we all prefer a certain type of button mashing over others. And Nintendo’s manuals were in a league of their own... Not always in a good way! Something that struck me in the video is the sheer number of Disney titles that Capcom put out in those years. Many of them never saw release here in Scandinavia for various reasons, even though local gaming magazines wrote in detail about all of them. The fact that the release window was 1-2 years behind may have been an issue as the NES market began to run out of steam. Another factor was that the distributor hesitated to release games based on shows that still hadn’t premiered. Television often lagged several seasons behind as well. Yup, we're spoiled nowadays. Yay!
@Cannotbetamed15 жыл бұрын
It seemed like once I got the pogo mechanic, I could do it anywhere. I played the prototype on PC with a keyboard and the pogo'ing was fine even with that. When I decided to make this video I started by playing the Disney Afternoon collection and it did feel very difficult there, it seemed very laggy.
@PerBorjeson5 жыл бұрын
@@Cannotbetamed1 Yeah, the Afternoon Collection had a lot of input lag. Timing jumps in DT and RR was near impossible, pogo mechanic aside. It's also kind of weird how much muscle memory that remains from years and years of using a D-pad. I often find myself trying to play 8-bit games with my thumbs even when using a keyboard.

Great review Pam! This has always been one of my favorite games of all time. Everything about the game IMO is just awesome. The music, the level design and the graphics are all top notch IMO. I can understand other people's frustrations with controlling the pogo stick but somehow I got accustomed with the pogo stick right away. I played the Game Boy version first when I was younger then I came across the NES version at FuncoLand some time after that. There's multiple endings to the game too, the typical game clearing ending, the special ending if you find all five of the treasures, and the 2 lost treasures and have more than $10 million, and the bad ending if you have $0. I've beaten it multiple times with the regular ending, but always try to go for the special ending to fully complete the game and give myself a little more challenge. The bad ending's hilarious with Scrooge weeping over his lost fortune even though he found the treasures. I recently just beat it with the special ending which was pretty cool. What's even more cool about DuckTales is that it led to even more cool Capcom-Disney games like the Chip n Dale games, Darkwing Duck on NES, Aladdin on SNES, and the Magical Quest games. The Remastered one I haven't played in a long time so I beat the Wii U version pretty easily. Need to give that one another go soon.

It's the best Capcom Disney game from the time. Rescue Rangers comes in second. You mentioned Mickey Mouscapades. I really like that game because I got it for Christmas when I was in the second or third grade, and played the heck out of it. By the time Talespin and Darkwing Duck came out, I was a Turbo Grafx 16 gamer, and only played that system's versions of the games. Talespin was pretty Ok, and Darkwing Duck was lacking, although I didn't actually have it..

Hi Pam, this was very informative and I'm glad you've come around on the original DuckTales. I also had to stick with the game for a while before it clicked with me, and I'm glad I did! Best Disney-Capcom game ever.

I prefer DuckTales 2 and I'd prefer Darkwing Duck if the game was longer. But this is definitely a great game !!

I played the NES game once, but the one I have is the Wii U remake... out of that, the other Disney NES games I Own are Mickey Mousecapade, Chip'n Dale Rescue Rangers, and Tales Spin... but the one I want to own is Darkwing Duck.

Darkwing Duck is good, but I find the bosses very challenging.

I must say that my first impressions of the gameplay were bad for years. Never could advance significantly any stage and died again and again very soon because didn't know how to use the cane as a pogo effectively. And said that was a shame for a game based on one my favorite cartoons of all time. And ended playing any other game. Then, someday, I could understand what I supposed to do and could reach the bosses at last. I was very happy!!! Never have reached the end of the game, but changed my mind and now I know is a great NES game!! By the way pretty and beautiful Pam ;-*, my favorite Disney-Capcom game is Darkwing Duck.

You need to review Mickey Mousecapade next. That's when the Disney-Capcom era truly began!
