When I was younger I used to take my son’s to Lewey Lake. They used to have canoes for rent as some of the sites were on an island. Loved it! On a side note I got there early before the ranger’s office opened up and settled by a site close to the road. What an awesome experience. Didn’t realize that bears crossed there, even a red fox! Great place but don’t go there in May, May flies ouch 😣

Whooooo Hoooooo Finally!!! I was hiking the Roan Highlands on the Appalachian Trail this weekend and got notification you posted this video. I started watching smack dab in the middle of the trail. LOL... Either, I lost what little cell service I had or you deleted the video, I was so bummed. Anyway, nice trip to Follensby Clear Pond with Carly and Nugget. It looks like you guys had a wonderful time. Canoe camping can be the best. You can load up so much good food and not be concerned about the weight. My daughter and I are planning a trip to the adjacent Horseshoe Pond using the short portage just northwest of your camp site. We will be there some time during the week of September 18-26. You should stop by and visit. Look in your tip jar. ;-)

The paddlers maps for the Adirondacks are great for finding island campsites and nice spots hidden in little coves. I don’t typically make reservations for campsites but I loved our spot on Weller pond. There’s a video on that spot too if you’re interested. :) thanks for watching

Nice video. Recalled to mind summers spent at Camp Eagle Cove, on 4th Lake. If I may offer a bit of unbidden advice from "an old paddler": it's best not to sit while paddling. One ought to kneel, which provides a lower center of gravity, and reduces the tippiness significantly. Thank you!

I really enjoy your videos but if you don't mind a suggestion, it looks like you loaded the canoe in the parking lot. My guess is from there you either dragged it down to the water or picked it up with the gear in it and bulled it to the shore. If you didn't do that, than I'll apologize now but if you did either of those I'd suggest you forget the "technique" if you care about the boat. Hulls are designed to carry and support their load when fully supported on the water. Anything other than that puts a lot of stress on it; which can eventually lead to issues with leaking. Also, with a boat like your Old Town, eventually the material the canoe is made from will abrade and degrade. Sorry if I'm coming off as a know-it-all. I just figure if you take care of your equipment, it will take care of you. Hope I haven't offended you because that's not my intent. That's all for now. Take care and until next time....be well.
@DanielleRootes
@DanielleRootes 3 жыл бұрын
We definitely did NOT drag the boat down. Haha but yeah good observation. I loaded my pack in there and literally realized after that clip that I still needed to carry the boat and took it out so we could carry it down.
