Thank you for posting. I especially enjoyed the it’s not a pissing contest. You explain the different hall shapes and cross-section nicely.

Man, this was a GREAT video! I'm headed to the BWCA in 10 days and I was going back and forth about which canoe to rent. It came down to the Wenonah Wilderness or the Northstar B16. In my case I'm going out for 12 days, with my dog. That means close to 40 lbs of food between the two of us. Then my 36 lb dry bag, and my 85 lb Golden Retriever. I don't feel that the Wilderness will provide adequate stability with that much weight and my dog who likes to stand up and look around every now and then (especially in weather). So, the NS B-16 was the only choice left. You really helped me to make the right decision here, weighing out the risk of tipping, dealing with weather, etc. Thank you again!

This is the best tutorial on canoe hull design I've seen. Especially the difference between primary and secondary stability. Next time I'm struggling to explain it to someone, I'm just going to show them this clip. Thanks!

Thanks for making these videos. Just bought an old fiberglass canoe and have begun sanding it down to refurbish it. Never refurbished or had a canoe before. Great to find a resource like this. Thanks!

This is a great explanation on hulls. I'm building 2 flat bottom kayaks for my Daughters Christmas. After watching this I'm gonna split the buttom length way and also put a slight V in the bottom of the bulkheads to give it a slight V bottom for the waves. I'm using 1/4 inch plywood so I can't make the bottom more round but a slight V hopefully will help with side wave action.

Hi what a great job of explaining all the different canoe types. My question if I may. I have only used alum. canoes for about 45 years. on the new canoes, what do you do when the bottom gets all torn up ,on a rocky river. I see them all the time at rentals & the bottoms are shredded. I would like to hear from other people that may of had this problem Thanks again!

How about a flat bottom with a keel for tracking? I’m fishing is my main interest . Mostly in small lakes and rivers. Hopefully I just bought the right 14 foot lighter canoe with a keel . Just putting skid plates on now. Haven’t really had much of a chance to try it out . And also plan on using a kayak paddle in the wind. What are your thoughts.🇨🇦👍 Thanks so much. Cheers.

Great info on how the hull shapes affect side wave reactions. You may have saved some peoples' hides with those clear explanations. I will certainly be more aware!

Great presentation. I have found that if your passenger is experienced a flat bottom canoe isn't necessary for them to enjoy a boat trip down a river. If they have zero experience put them in a flat bottom. I prefer a round because of easy manual steering and ease of paddling on a long river trip.
