Thanks for a great video! I sent the link to my dad in the nursing home. We used to float down the Buffalo in the 70's and you made it possible for us to do it again, without the bugs! :)

Reminds me of the many weekends I spent there "back in the day". Amazing to see how much the channel has changed in a mere 20 years.

I would recommend to all paddlers to NOT wear a backpack while padding, even better wear a life jacket...

Thank you for the tip. I usually love to half my backpack on me. Not sure how crazy this river gets. But I'm sure I'm not getting in that water with no lifejacket

@@ozark.explorer I’m familiar with the Buffalo River from low water to flood stage along with other class 1 through Class 5 rivers. As well as being an ACA swift water instructor. Wearing a backpack while on water is asking for trouble when the unexpected happens. Not wearing a life jacket because “most” people don’t is also a easy way to find trouble. Careful with your advice as you may be directing people with not as much experience, skill and resourcefulness, what as you.
Absolutely.. there are spaghetti strainers all over the rivers here in AR.. it would be VERY easy to get your Pack snagged up and the flow will push your body underwater.. no packs os very good advice.. and ALWAYS wear a life jacket.. one bonk on the head and it's over without a life jacket on

Wish I could float that section just one time. What a sight it would be to see Roark's Bluff and Hemmend n Hallow waterfall in person plus in the same day.

I drove to Steel Creek campground a few days ago. November 29, 2021. Water very low in creeks, but fine on river. Awesome bluffs showing more with leaves gone. Two horses crossed, 2'-3' deep.

Really nice video. As others have said, thanks for not adding music. How many days & nights were you out? Diff you have a canoeing outfitter set you up with equipment and drop-off/pick-up, or was this a full DIY undertaking?

In all the dozens of float trips I've taken in my life since childhood, I don't think there's been a single one with class II rapids and a canoe where the canoe hasn't tipped, grounded on rock, or ran into a log at least once.

I've probably got 5,000 miles canoeing under my belt and never flipped. Just takes an experienced guide. I will say 3 and above gets very very tricky in a canoe. Takes 2 ppl coordinating extremely well

looks like it was a lot of fun! I just took my girlfriend canoeing down the lower Salt River here in Arizona. its a 12mile/4.5hr float. She's totally addicted now, which gives me the best excuse to go again!

Question for anyone who has been on this river.. me and my wife are going here and we have a 8 year old and a 1 year old. Would it be to dangerous to take the 1 year old? I really want my wife to go on with me but she thinks it's a bad idea
@jkjome854 жыл бұрын
Definitely do not bring a one year old onto the Buffalo River. It has challenging rapids in places. Additionally, you should never risk your child's life by putting them into a situation that you are not 100% familiar with ahead of time.
@texasforever86114 жыл бұрын

Go around buffalo access point (south of yellville). One of the better access points on the river.During summer the water is clear and slower moving. 1 year old can be a lot of work (sunscreen, shade, and hydration). About 4 year old, tow some behind canoe with life vest... on tube or noodles if kid likes that. Our kids recall years after about the fun, alll the turtles and fish visible. Judgement should be on kids liking water/outdoors.
