Have you tried the Canon 514XL? What do you think of Super 8?
@robertjones18863 жыл бұрын
I've seen good reviews on that particular model so I'm looking into getting one. I need to figure out filters for when it's too bright. I pretty much wasted 75% of a cartridge because it was too bright out. I was shooting on the Canon 518.
@robertjones18863 жыл бұрын
Each cartridge is 50' and you can usually get 3 ¼-3½minutes at 18fps. The bar on the left side tells you how many feet of film you have shot so far, but if you open the cartridge door prior to shooting all of the film it will reset the counter. If you want to project super 8 film shoot color positive (Kodak Ektachrome) or B&W reversal. If you don't care about projecting then shoot color negative and pro8mm (or other companies) can scan it to digital. There isn't much benefit to shooting 24 fps, but you end up burning through film faster than shooting 18fps. I find super 8 cameras at antique stores or thrift shops for $10-$30 all the time.

Hey Tony, I just wanted to say I've been loving your channel! I just bought my first film cam... canon ae-1 off facebook marketplace and from the coolest woman! What I loved about buying it from her was how much she loved this camera and how stoked she was to sell it to someone who was excited to get the same passion out of it as she did. She even had a few lenses, a flash, filters and tripods! Anyways, all that to say that I am really drawn to the way you speak about and teach about photography. Love all your videos and blog! Thanks for sharing such awesome info!

On the Sun Shine setting the filter is switched in place. It should be used in the bulb setting for daylight films like Kodak Ektachrome 100D. The camera was designed around an artificial light film, filter in for daylight use and filter out for artificial light use.
@homerhorowitz7649 Жыл бұрын
This is what I’m here to figure out. There’s a lot of confusion going around and for good reason. One would think (as he and I have) that the daylight symbol could be for daylight film ..but now I’m hearing the opposite; that the daylight symbol means it’s using an orange filter for shooting daylight with T film. I’ve also heard that it would matter when shooting D film because the camera will automatically override that switch. I just shot my first roll like he suggested so I guess I’ll find out 😬

What happens when the reel is over? It keeps rolling and exposing the film that you habe already reccorded?
@TonyWodarck2 жыл бұрын
Supposedly the sound changes a bit and you’ll notice. I have not. On the side of the camera is a meter that goes to like 50 or something it stands for the feet of the roll. Once that reaches the end you can pop the camera open and look. If the film has a little cutout then It’s finished. Google what it looks like so you know but there is an indicator. If you happen to not be done just load it back up and keep shooting. You’ll only have exposed like a second of film.

hi tony, awesome video! what kind of cartridge should i buy if im shooting a concert? any other tips for using this camera in that sort of setting?

It’s gonna be hard to shoot in low light. I’d buy the highest ISO you can find and maybe push the film a stop, maybe Kodak 500t. Black and white would be easiest to deal with different types of lighting but color would look cool too.
