8mm footage always makes me feel a sad melancholy. As in the people in the footage are now gone or in different places after these precious moments. It`s a great effect to use in your work. I made a video for work at the start of the pandemic to show that we were still in business, just at home or anywhere else besides the offices. I asked coworkers to send their own videos of them working from home shot on their phones and it actually had the same effect. The imperfect home movie "feel" that 8mm truly captures. Not in the same way, of course, but it resonated with a lot of people. It helped that most of them had older phone models with limited resolutions of course ;) Great vid, Danny!

I think the major difference between shooting film vs digital is that film has tangible results and there is something at stake there. That is one of the reasons why I mostly take stills on film.

Exactly right...the reason old home movies are so great is all the self editing that had to be done due to limited reel time. Only the best moments are captured, unlike on a home video where EVERYTHING was filmed.

Amazing stuff as always dude! I've only ever used film for still photography but despite the fact it is expensive and kind of impractical it totally changes how you, not only approach shooting but approach experiencing situations. When I shoot film those experiences stick with me outside of just the end product because I'm absorbing so much more than if I was shooting digital. Although it may be because I'm so conscious of cost that I'm ultra aware of what I'm doing and it just sticks in my memory haha. Also "warm, nostalgic feeling" is totally the vibe I get from your videos and I'm not just talking visuals. Somehow you've nailed a comfortable, calm, familiar space within a modern, fast paced, increasingly corporate medium. No mean feat! Keep up the great work Danny!

Isn’t interesting what a lot of us think when reflecting on memories - it doesn’t need details or clarity, but simply just aesthetics. It goes without saying details/resolution/sharpness isn’t all that important - bringing the feelings of a moment in time back is far more significant 🙌🏻
