Thanks everyone for your comments. I wanted to make a correction to my original video. My apologies, the EX430 Mark II and Mark III both have zoom flash. I had figured that out several months ago after the video, but forgot to update the video. Hopefully, this post will resolve any confusion.

Nice but I have to mention that the high speed syn was not created for high speed events indoors. The average electronic flash lasts about 1/1000 of a second and can freeze most everything. The high speed function It allows you to use the flash outdoors in daylight especially for fill. I use this feature always for portraits and groups at weddings. I can use wide apertures where I was unable to before this feature without diffusion :)

@Glenn, I’m curious about how to use HSS for for portraits and groups also with wide apertures. How do you do it? I once was faced with the challenge of a massive group 40+ to shoot fortunately the sun god was on my side and I managed to pull it off ‘nearly’ flashes.

Save yourself some money and go with the Godox system. The TT685 is an amazing flash and from my experience works just like the 600 but it only cost $120 and still offer TTL. Get an X1T-C controller for $80 and control them all from your camera as well. I love Canon but for my flash, Godox rules!
@Stealt707

oops you let out this secret! once people figure out canon are done with selling 600ex rt flashes. Godox rules and is just as good if not better at the price offering.
@ge48421
@ge48421 4 жыл бұрын
Another advantage of Godox is that remote triggered flashes work perfectly even when triggered from a different brand of camera. You can for example trigger a flash built for Olympus or Nikon using a controller built for Canon, even with high speed sync.

I'm afraid the idea that 600ex rt is the only Canon flash with ZOOM capability is wrong, even the old 430ex one has it, so is the new 430ex iii rt which of course has zoom functionality. Zooming is not a new technology at all, my old Nikon SB23 flash from film era used to zoom too...

Cheers my friend, great video though, it's great to see how speedlites are now able to connect wirelessly which opens the doors to unlimited creative photographs. One thing I wish the Canon wireless system could do (over all it already can) is the possibility of zooming the slave speedlites which is not possible now, it'd be a huge plus to what Canon wireless system already is...

A new kid is on the block that from ATG's. Better than Canon OEM. * ATG wireless radio ETTL II range to 1,000 feet. * ATG wireless radio ETTL II 600ws * ATG transmitter is much better than Canon * ATG talks to Canon 600EX-RT Nevertheless, you really don't want to shoot too much HSS or have a dome over the flash. - Overheat occurs - Shutdown occurs - Fresnel meltdown occurs - AA will be very hot (warp AA housing) - 24mm shooting should be limited Ezra Brathwaite, that 600EX-RT, 1D X and 11-24 zoom lenses are heavy to hold for extended time like my ATG Hasselblad H6D- 100cr. Do you have or dreaming on a 5Dsr? This will cut down on some weight,

Thanks for the update Ivan. My experience showed me that a user cannot manually adjust a zoom flash function. That is probably not the same as the 430EX III having automatic, but not adjustable flash. I mostly use the 600EX-RT. You are probably right, it probably does have automatic flash, but you cannot adjust it.
@jonathanbrady2013
@jonathanbrady2013 8 жыл бұрын
The 430EX III RT does have user-controllable zoom flash. My older model 430EX II has it as well. I wouldn't be surprised to know that many Canon flashes have it. To adjust it on my 430EX II, all I have to do is press the "zoom" button and then press the + or - button to adjust it. The 430 EX II will only zoom from 24-105mm though. Not sure about the range of the 430EX III RT. Could be the same or longer. If one needs wider than 24, they can always drop down the plastic diffuser that's docked inside the head of the flash.

Hi Ezra. Recently purchased a used 600EX-RT on eBay. Don't know much about flashes. Seems not as powerful as my old Metz 54 AF-1C at first test. Anyway I can be sure it works well ? What is the best way (test setup) to see it working at full power ? Thanks for your advice.

Alain Riffon there is a way to increase the flash exposure on the flash and through your DSLR Canon camera. That's the easiest way to increase the flash power if you find is not as powerful as you thought.

Ezra Brathwaite, you can save the weight by having 430EX II-RT on camera instead of 600EX-RT. My staff and I are able to control of the flash zoom by tethered or wirelessly from a tablet or a computer. You don't need the 600EX series, any supported Canon ETTL II will work, to zoom. Flash zoom can be adjusted on camera's flash menu. Over 6 months, you haven't answer my question.

Ezra is it necessary to buy the transmitter to set up additional flashes in a group or could you basically use one of the 600's as your transmitter to talk to your other flashes for 360- degree flash? Cheers
@ezrabrathwaite9148
@ezrabrathwaite9148 7 жыл бұрын
Hi Dan, you can get a 600EX-RT and use that flash as a radio 'master' flash and have it talk to additional 600s or 430 III. The other flashes have to have RT or radio transmission. I believe there is a limit up to 5 flashes with the 600 as the master and up to 15 flashes with the Speedlite Transmitter.

The older 580ex i and 550ex also have the zoom too. It’s what caused me to break the bank years ago to acquire one (550ex for £500😬🤭). Got the 600ex rt and 600ex rt ii the radio trigger system is amazing, problem now is I’m stuck with a bunch of wizards in my pocket. By-the-way one cool trick many owners probably don’t know the 600ex rt has is ........ remotely trigger your camera.

I believe the EX430 III can keep up with EX600-RT's, I never heard or experienced any overheating issues with the 430. I do know that the 600 will juice your rechargeable batteries much more faster than the 430s because of the power output that the 600s produce

+Mike Musto I think that is a wise idea Mike to have a couple of 430 as back up flashes instead of buying more bigger and more expensive 600s for wedding events if you already have a 600 as your primary flash. I hope that helps!
