This is a sharpness test of the Canon EF-S 60mm f/2.8 Macro USM vs. the Canon EF-M 28mm f/3.5 Macro IS STM to find out which macro lens is better.
There will be 4 rounds: Sharpness in the middle of the image (1), Sharpness in the corner of the image (2), Diffraction (3) and Macro Sharpness(4)
0:00 Introduction
1:00 Round 1 (Sharpness in the middle)
2:33 Round 2 (Sharpness in the corner)
3:29 Round 3 (Diffraction)
4:06 Round 4 (Macro Sharpness)
5:10 Conclusion
The lenses were tested using a Canon M50 camera set at 24 Megapixels. As this video focuses only on sharpness performance, the following in-camera corrections where turned on during testing: Peripheral illumination correction, distortion correction and chromatic aberration correction. Diffraction corrections were turned off.
The 60mm lens was mounted on the Canon M50 using a Canon EF-EOS M Mount Adapter that doesn`t affect image quality because it doesn`t have any optical elements.

Thanks for the video! The difference for me is the built in light on the 28mm for macro, smaller size, and used price. I paid $160 US, "Like New". from, MPB.

Thanks for sharing! That's a good price, especially if its like new. Enjoy your 28mm macro lens!

28mm is decently sharp. I like this lens a lot. If it was f2.8, one could take it for also walking around lens ( not that I don't use it like this from time to time).

I agree! The sharpness is good, it focuses very fast at normal distances (useful for walking around), the only thing that is missing is a wider f2.8 aperture.

@@apertureatlas Yes. It is also decent for video outside or even indoors with decent light. I would say that generally the AF holds well. Lens' stabilizer also helps for video even when walking (but i am not sure if it works during video or photos only).

@@dice3809 The lens image stabilizer works on both photo and video, it just doesn't give gimbal-like stabilization. It does a good job for taking shots while staying in one place.

@@apertureatlas Ah, thank you. I forgot to add that one minor issue with this lens, sometimes 28mm is not enough reach for some bugs or other small critters. So mostly flowers or critters that don't scare easily. But like everythibg in the M series, this lens is a compromise between size and price. And i am fine with that. Btw, have you tried this lens with extension tube rings or close up filters like raynox dcr250? Is it worth to use it with this lens or not?

@@dice3809 Having a wider angle, it is great for product photography, leaves, textures, but not great for insects. It gets more of the environment inside the frame - and this is a strong point. There are not too many lenses like this one. We should use it more for what it offers and not look at it wishing it was a typical 100mm full frame equivalent macro lens. For the fact that it already has 1.2x magnification in Super Macro Mode, I didn't use extension tubes on it - I don't have any tips for them. In short, we should enjoy this macro lens because it has a wider angle and find ways to embrace its uniqueness. It really is a special lens. If we want a narrow point of view, we should also get a 100mm macro lens.
