This was the most helpful cover of the lens that I have seen. Having bought one and feeling a bit nervous, it has really encouraged me to use it, because the review showed examples of best use and what to avoid. Thank you

Great and very helpful review! A future video comparing the M50 Mark II and the R50 will be nice to have!

Thank you! That`s a good idea, a video about the M50 Mark II vs the R50. First, I have to borrow them from somewhere. For sure the R50 is a lot better. Slim chances to get both cameras, but we`ll see - this is a topic for my other YT channel, about cameras: Camera Explorations

It really is a good and fun to use lens. I am using it all the time for the other lens review videos on this channel. Great for product photography, for close-up video shots and many other things. Will never regret that I got this lens for my M50 and M100 cameras. All the best! Enjoy your 28mm macro!

Great job. I just ordered it. Tough call for me since I’m expecting to move to an “R” camera in the near future. That means I won’t be able to use this lens. And with a Macro lens I don’t want to use an adapter. With your review it helped me make the decision Thank you

Glad to hear my review was helpful, Daniel! I will also go for a EOS R camera soon. The 28mm Macro will always be fun and useful. It's an interesting lens to have around all the time. With the small camera body of the M series this will be possible. Thank you for the feedback! Enjoy your new Macro lens!

Thanks for the video. Minor correctionL Max aperture would be f/3.5, min aperture would be f/22. The video states them in reverse.

Many thanks for making this video! It is by far the best informative review I have found. Do you have any recommendations for a budget- friendly non native Canon lens for macro work with the Canon M50?
@apertureatlas2 жыл бұрын
I am glad to hear that, Stephen! Thank you too for the comment! A budget- friendly non native Canon lens for macro work is the Canon EF-S 60mm f/2.8 USM Macro. Another good option is the Sigma 105mm f/2.8 DG Macro HSM OS. Both of them can be mounted on the M50 with the EF-EOS M Canon Mount Adapter. Also, both of them are old lenses, so, if bought used, they can be found at a cheap price.

Hello there Do you know if the macro works at two feet away Thank you for your time and for the video
@apertureatlas2 жыл бұрын
Hi! Yes, it does. As specified at min. 3:20 , the lens can focus at a minimum distance of 9.3cm away from the sensor. Also, in the normal shooting mode, it can focus for close-up shots (9.3cm) -> all the way to infinity, as specified at min. 5:36 . In conclusion, it works at two feet away with no problems.

Hi Maybe this is a bit weird to ask, but how would this lens perform for dental photography. Can it focus under low light conditions i.e. inside patient mouths?
@apertureatlas Жыл бұрын
Hi! The lights aren't very strong, but, with raising the iso a bit + some extra light coming from the outside environment, it should do the trick/it should work decently. The only way to know exactly is to have the lens+a compatible camera, like the Canon M50. Make sure to have image stabilization on, make sure to keep a steady hand and an shutter-speed of at least 1/80; 1/100. There aren't many lenses that come to mind that would work here, but, as mentioned , the Canon EF-M 28mm macro, from this clip, should do a decent job for dental photography.

I'm about to purchase this lens but can you clarify. It uses a 43mm filter which screws into the hood. Does the lens cap that comes with the lens attach to the hood with the filter attached? To use the LED lighting don't you have to remove the hood so it makes the filter kind of pointless?
@apertureatlas Жыл бұрын
Using a filter with this lens can be complicated, especially since I don't have the lens anymore and haven't used a filter with it. However, from my knowledge, the filter is a bit pointless. If you want to use the LED light and the lens hood and filter, you have to choose one of them, as you can't use them all at the same time.

Thank you for your excellent review. It does help me to make a decision to buy it for my M6 camera. BTW what do you think if I need to buy an UV filter for the lens ? Thanks.
@apertureatlas2 жыл бұрын
Thank you too for your kind words! A UV filter on a macro lens like this one might catch dust. That dust might be visible in your photos when your are doing macro shots with a small aperture opening. This is only my personal opinion. You can definitely buy a UV filter, test it out, see what happens, but I would hesitate to put one on a macro lens.
@mikenguyen88652 жыл бұрын
@@apertureatlas thank you for a quick reply. Sure, I will buy the UV filter and test it out as you suggested. Have a nice day.

Thanks for the great analysis. I just ordered one to try slide copying on a stand with my M50 II. Do you think it will work well enough for slide copying?
@apertureatlas2 жыл бұрын
I'm glad to hear that the video was useful! Yes, I think that it will do a good job for slide copying. The lens focuses close, doesn't create distortions and it has good sharpness. These 3 will help.

Is it possible to take portraits of people with this lens?
@apertureatlas2 жыл бұрын
Yes. It won't give too much bokeh if you are too far away from your subjects. This happens because of the f/3.5 aperture, but the 0 distortions and the 45mm Full Frame equivalent that it has make it usable for portraits.

The text, image quality tests, 30+ hours of work on putting this video together were made by my hand. Even if, I admit, there is inspiration from Chris, all materials used in this video are 100% original, despite the two things that look similar with what Chris has. Take it as an alternative, see if we got different results. Sometimes we do. Thank you for the comment!
