Nice helpful video. Thank you. There is only one thing I'd like to comment on. In the section on WiFi, the subject of connecting to a computer was somewhat dismissed as not being very good. That is actually what I really like about the 77D. I keep a 77D on a tripod, equipped with an AC power supply, ready to take pictures of merchandise for online sales. I have it set up such that I simply turn the camera on, then press the little wireless button on the back of the camera, and upon tapping on the screen the computer I want to connect to, EOS Utility starts on my PC. I then select on the PC that I want to control the camera. I then click to start a live session. Then when I take photos with my camera over at my studio table, the photos immediately go to my computer via WiFi, into a special directory that I specified as the date within a larger directory. I have my settings such that they aren't even saved to the card in the camera, but go directly to the computer. If no folder for that date exists yet, as in the morning when I first turn the camera on, that new folder is created. If I want to shoot a video of a product, I flip the camera to video and shoot it. I can then transfer that to the PC over WiFi, too, quickly and easily. It is so nice to be able to do this without the need for an extra cord to the computer. If I were to use a USB cord, unfortunately the location of the plug-in interferes with flipping the screen out. Maybe I am in the minority in not caring about connecting a computer to a smartphone, but I have no interest in that at all, but connecting to a computer is really important to me, and the 77D works great for that.

I just bought a 77D and watched this very helpful tutorial. Thank you! I also used your tutorial last year when I bought my T7i. I have the two cameras for recording videos. The 77D is now $50 less than the T7i on Amazon and a online camera retailer. Maybe the 77D isn't selling as well? I bought the 77D for more features and the lower price sealed the deal. I know it is hard to cover everything in a short tutorial video but was hoping you would comment on using the Lock lever.

OrganicFarmer it is a great replacement for the kit lens. It is very sharp and the constant f2.8 is very nice. Mine is a 'grey label' version. No US warranty.

Coming from a T6 & SL2, I ordered a 77D body for $649. After deliberating a "walk around lens" for some time I settled on ordering the Sigma 17-50 mm f/2.8 at $305 (international version). Both should be here in a couple days. The lens is probably not the best for video due to AF noise, and the focus ring spins when auto focusing. Both things I can live with considering the price point for this reasonably sharp and fast lens.
@pacowboy6 жыл бұрын
Jeffrey Pringle I used the Sigma walking around WDW and was very happy with it. I havn't noticed too much AF noise during video, but I also don't record alot of video. Both are a great combination. You will be very happy and impressed with the upgrade. 👍
@jeffpv.6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the info. I was fairly confused regarding the AF noise. Some say it's quiet, while others say it's a bit noisy for video. Maybe it has something to do with when the lens was manufactured (since it was released in 2010)? Using my delayed tax refund to fund these, I'm pretty geeked to try out the new gear!

Always very educational, thank you. As an alternative to the Sigma 18-35 F1.8, if you need a lens that starts entering telephoto but is also fairly wide, I would recommend the canon 17-55mm. I bought a used one and since buying it my 18-135mm I got with my 600d has been gathering dust when traveling. I will mostly stick on the 17-55, sharp lens, take my 10-18mm for tight spaces or wider shots as you mentioned and the nifty fifty if I need the f1.8. My flash goes into the space for the 18-135mm. The 80d and 77d are on my wishlist should I run into money tomorow to upgrade the old 600d but I'm a bit frustrated as the 77d has the newer sensor with better lowlight performance but the 80d excels in other areas. Hopefully by the time I upgrade the next gen would have merged these two cameras
@tourinojacks5844 Жыл бұрын
It's been 5 years now. Have you upgraded your Canon body yet? Also, if so, what lenses are you primarily using with it?
@TheHannes Жыл бұрын
@tourinojacks5844 wow, funny and sad reading my comment now. I have not yet updated the body. As you know, canon now went fully in with mirrorless so I decided to wait and reenter the body market going for a new rf mount, but more specifically, the full frame market. This will mean adapters and/or reinvestment in lenses. I had my heart set on the R6 but it's quite a hefty tag for an enthusiast. The R8 is also on my list but just lacks the ibis. The past 5 years we've immigrated and had a bunch of expenses so I couldn't justify an upgrade yet. My 17-55 f2.8 is still my go-to on my 600d, my biggest peeve with the lens is the fact that it creeps. That new body is definitely rising up on the priority list again
@tourinojacks5844 Жыл бұрын
I didn't understand what you meant by "it creeps?" I asked that question because I was considering to get in the 24th to 70 mm 2.8, but I told myself if I come across a really good deal on an alternate lens that is 2.8 or faster than I would consider it.
@TheHannes Жыл бұрын
@@tourinojacks5844 I am no expert, although the 24-70 L is a fantastic lens, it is designed for a full frame sensor, so effectively 38-112mm on a crop sensor. I would recommend something like the 17-55 for a crop sensor as it will give you about 27-88mm Full frame equivalent. Sigma also have some good options for the ef mount. Lens creeping is when the lens doesn't hold it's position when walking, so as you walk about it becomes fully extended unless you hold on to it. It's a minor trade off for decent glass at an acceptable price point.

Makes me wonder why there is such a big price difference between the two. Any comments on that? And also I am a intermediate photographer, should i upgrade to 77D or 80D? I am not into vlogging or taking a lot of videos for that matters,more into still photography. What would you suggest I do ?

1:27 NO! Never leave Image Stabilization ON when your camera is mounted on a tripod. When your camera is sitting still on a tripod, the stabilizer will often look for movement that isn’t there, resulting in a blurry photo. I’ve tried that a lot and whenever I take a photo while my camera is mounted on a tripod, images with image stabilization turned off in the lens were noticeably sharper than those with image stabilization turned on.
@TonyAndChelsea6 жыл бұрын
We've found this with non-Canon lenses but not with recent Canon lenses. Hence our recommendation. I'll add a retest to our to-do list.

Please help me here. I am looking to buy a Canon 77D for mainly indoor computer-related product reviews with medium lights but I can't seem to get to a decision. Should I get 18-55 mm STM kit lens and buy a 55-250 STM lens or buy it with the 18-135 mm USM kit lens?
@brucepaton8356 жыл бұрын
Sifat, I own all three lenses and use them for different purposes. All three are really sharp, so you probably can't go wrong. Of the three, I find the 18-135 the most useful in a range of situations. The 18mm end is really handy often for reasonably close up work, and the longer end is useful for people shots within a room. The 18-55 will be useful to you if you need to shoot really close to the product, like within 2 feet of it. The 55-250 is a great lens, but will be frustrating if you're mostly within one room. (You'll have to back up too far to get the whole product in the picture.) If you are mostly working at the same distance all the time, you may want a non-zoom lens like the 50mm 1.8 lens which is inexpensive but very sharp and can work at lower light levels. On balance, I would choose either the 18-55 if you are mostly going to be close, or the 18-135 if you want more flexibility. The 18-55 is the least expensive, especially used, so that might be the place to start.

Late to the party, but for those who might be in same situation and come to this comment, you actually need a bright lens. Focal length matters, but that can be physically adjuted. What you actually need is Canon/Yongnuo 50mm f/1.8. Why 50mm, cuz its cheapest! Smallest the f number, brightest the lens. That will help the most in indoor/dark environments because light there is limited most of the time.

I cannot do that in any mode on this 77d?? Black pics?! My 77d will only onboard flash somewhat properly at A+ with the noisy 3200 in even a well lit room. Using a flash should mitigate the use of 3200iso. Can anyone else get their 77d to do a flash photo at 100 iso, without producing black images, in any setting? 430ex works perfect on it too, but it is sometimes handy to have the pop up flash.

Is this lens www.amazon.com/Tamron-70-200MM-Telephoto-Cameras-A009E/dp/B00A34GQEC the same or a newer lens of the Tamaron 70-200 f2.8 F2 T200G2 you recommend in the video? The link in the description doesn't bring me to the lens in Amazon.
