Man, this is a great working review. And that rack focus from one pint to another is so sharp and smooth from the touch screen, you almost think it's 4k. That, plus being able to adjust the focus speed is a great little perk. So many nice features that fit what I want (upgrading from the Rebels), even though it's a bit annoying looking at a new 1200 dollar body with no 4k. Again, great stuff. Cheers!
@RayOrtega8 жыл бұрын
Thanks, Carl. Focus on this cam is quite nice indeed. I agree, should have 4K at this price point but some of the other cams with 4K don't do everything this does so it's always a push and pull. Appreciate the comments!

Thanks for doing this, Ray. I just bought a 70D kit after it dropped in price when the 80D kits were coming into my local Sam's Club. Part of me kept wondering if I should have gone ahead and shelled out the extra for the 80D kit instead, but I really wanted to save the money. This video helped me feel more comfortable with my purchase, and I learned a lot of extra bits on top of that.

Hi Ray Love the videos that you put out there. I have resently purchased a Canon 80D. I have referred to your videos to learn more of the functions of this camera. I took up the challenge to find the HDR movie mode. I found it when the camera is on SCN mode. when the camera is in live view an icon comes up on the right hand side. Hit the Q and touch the icon. One cool feature I have learned is that the auto focus follows your finger while dragging it across the screen while recording. I was at a wedding reording the head table with a shallow depth of field. As I ran my finger from one end of the table to the other end each person would focus. Try that with a Sony 6300. I know every camera has there strengths, this just happens to be one of the Canon 80d.

Hi I really liked your video - very explanatory. I am a food vlogger and I am also contemplating buying a good camera. I have almost finalized this camera but right now my budget is limited so I have a few questions if you have time to answer me. 1. If I do not buy any lens as of now - will the video quality still be good? Do u have any video clip that you have shot without an additional lens? 2. As Indian streets are very noise so I face a lot of issues with the background noises, so how is the performance of this camera with respect to voice recording? I do have an external Mic that I can attach with it but just wanted to know how this camera fares without any additional gadgets. 3. How is the image stabilization as I have to walk while shooting and I do not want to end in shaky video. 4. How is the video quality at night or low light? 5. How is the auto-focus quick or slow? In fact I have a suggestion for you as I have been searching out a lot regarding these and few more points on this camera but no video talks to clearly about each of these in 1 single video. If you could make a video covering all these aspects - without additional lens or mic - then it would be very helpful & great.

Awesome review, Ray! Only question I have is this perception about .mov vs. .mp4 - Far as I've always understood it, they're both nearly identical h.264 compression flavors, with no real discernible difference. You're seeing that .mov is giving you more DR or overall image quality?
@RayOrtega8 жыл бұрын
Thanks Michael! I believe the .mov in this case records the ALL-I compression vs standard or IPB which are more compressed and the bitrate is not as high as .mov which I think goes up to 90Mbps vs 60 or less in mp4 IPB. But you may be right since I didn't see much of a difference.

At around 1:45 you said that the 45 points hels with focus in video-mode!!! The 45 autofocus-points don't help with focus while recording video. In videomode it's using the sensor to autofocus, and the 45 points are "hidden" behind the mirror which is slapped up, when in videomode. The 45 points only helps when using the camera for stills - and not in live-view mode, where the sensor is also exposed, and the mirror slapped up. But nice review.

Hi, Simone. I'm making a video about this and have already shot the footage cause I get this question often. Until then however, the answer is PAL vs NTSC. Go into your menus and in one of the wrench icons there will be an option for video format. Yours is currently selected for PAL. Switch to NTSC and you'll get the option for 60fps.

Ray Ortega oh thank you. Great. Do you think NTSC bring some disadvantages? The quality for example? Or the camera shott good the same

Lighting in the U.S. is 60hz and in places like Europe, the lighting tends to be 50hz. This is the reason for the different options so that you don't get flicker in your video. But if you are running at 60fps and you are getting flicker, you can also adjust the shutter speed as you see me do here kzbin.info/www/bejne/qJurl6dvob6MmZY if you're shooting for slow motion then most of the time you are probably outside and it won't matter. Definitely subscribe to this channel cause I will have other videos out about this soon.

Great gonna grab one soon Bro...But can you suggest any good camera for long recording videos for Podcast ...Other than a camcorder...??

The new Sony's no longer have a limit like the a6400 podhelp.me/a6400bodyBH I talk about it here kzbin.info/www/bejne/eoHQp3pjbNCcrck and take a look at what Panasonic has to offer in the GH series.

thanks sir for this great video. my question is, how long you can go with video mode? and this camera overheating like 70D for video or not? thanks :)
@RayOrtega7 жыл бұрын
I think the 80D is ~29 minutes. I haven't heard much about 70D or 80D overheating. They'll all overheat if in direct sun for too long but these Canons are pretty good.

My 80D is grey so it did not come with a hard copy manual. And right now I am too lazy to bring it out of my dry box so I content myself with watching youtube videos about how great it is. After watching this video I am still left with a question: Does the 80D still have the 12 minute video limit? Thank you.

Michael akhil you will have to rent it out and try and see, because I didn’t like it for the battery life, flip screen and menus.

Hi Ray, thanks for the great review. I'm shooting on a 60D and think its time to upgrade to the 80D. Would you? Thanks again
@RayOrtega8 жыл бұрын
Thanks. I still shoot the 60D. The 80D is a decent upgrade but I don't think you'll see a dramatic difference. If you have the budget, it's nice to get 1080p 60, a little better image and great AF but as you can see you can still do plenty of great things with the 60D.

Ray Ortega Thanks for the reply Ray. Yeah, I can do a lot with my 60D but pulling focus manually is getting annoying. My subjects move around a lot and sometimes I only notice the soft shot in the edit bay. It still seems like the way to go as I need good battery life but 4K is overkill. Thanks again!

with all of the camera options available today it's hard to know what to choose. i have to get a camera for shooting music videos. my first choice was a used panasonic GH3 but i also see that you can get a used canon c100 for a good price and or a used 5Dmk2 but a new 80D just might be the right choice. can't figure out what to do!!

Great review!! But i'm still struggling between Canon 80d and Lumix G85 for filmmaking only/ Which one would u recommend? Thx!
@RayOrtega7 жыл бұрын
Thanks. I haven't used the G85 but it looks like a great cam. Choose based on your needs. I think the 80D would have better continuous autofocus but with the G85 I think you get 4K and no recording time limit.

i want to buy 70d/80d but which one is the best camera for video? please answer. im subscribing you dude. and what lense i should bough for video?
@RayOrtega8 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the sub. I like both those cams. Only real reason to go 80D over 70D would be if the price difference was small enough and you needed to do 60fps at 1080p. For a lens, it really just depend on what you are filming but you can check out some starter lenses I list in my KZbin starter Kit kit.com/rayortega/youtube-starter-kit
