to get a clean feed onto your monitor, you just need to press the display button and cycle through (which is the bottom button on the monitor). That will give you a completely clean feed. Hope that helps others here.

The EIS stab is pretty good like you said. The director was like "I want the footage shakier" and I was like "I'm trying! Oh, forgot stabilization was on from the previous scene."

You can put a almost completely clean feed on the canon monitor by hitting button 2 on the display (labeled display), you can also change some of the things that appear on each of the 3 menu display modes. lowlight is a bit better in full frame mode as well, dont know if you did any full frame low light or only s35

yeah, makes sense for bigger sensor in lowlight situations for sure, but we mainly lived on those Super 35 zooms. Good to know about the buttons, 3 weeks isnt really long enough to fully figure out a camera. But i do love that sensor tho! The image is pretty dang nice!

There are 3 things I wish the camera had - DGO (Or dual base iso) - Better lowlight (6400 is as high as I will go) - Some type of stabilization like fx9 has However everything else is top notch. The c500 is the lebron james of cameras but nobody knows. Its perfect for big productions shooting raw, full crew, and anamorphic. It’s also perfect for single operator setups because of Autofocus, NDs, smaller file size choices, battery life and audio control. There isnt a situation that the camera couldn’t excel in.

Informative... hope you have a way to report those software quirks to Canon

I like the review. I'm leaning towards getting a used Red Dragon X 6K. Seems like a more fully featured camera than the Komodo. It's especially a better buy if you get a ready to shoot package from ebay.

dual pixel autofocus just like the C200, I think you tend to forget or not realise it's the only cinema camera that has autofocus

Once again, a great honest overview from someone that actually works with their cameras. Ever used the BM Ursa cameras? I'm a huge fan of Blackmagic, and would love to hear from a working pro how they stack up against the much more expensive Canons. Granted, compared to the C500MKII, you'd loose the full frame - but I honestly don't miss full frame with my BMPCC4K.

I have directed a film where my DP, Jon Schweigart shot on the Ursa Mini Pro, but i personally have not shot on that camera. I am a tad interested in the new 12K, but i just cant get on board with the ENG form factor

I loved using this camera as an operator last week and I kinda agree with the "too many" buttons. I'm sure if I owned the camera it would become second nature and not a problem but wouldn't it be cool if there was a mode where you can make certain buttons "glow" that you regularly use?

thank you so much for one of the very few real-world reviews... i am torn between the c300mkiii and this the c500mkii - for all the reasons you liked the camera - the colour rendition, the daylight latitude, 4K 60p, i too like the camera. for the reasons you don't like the camera like low-light not looking good, and button placement - i can probably get over. the issue with the external signal dropping frames is strange - i wonder if the c300mkiii has the same issue - or if that firmware update you mentioned fixed that specific problem. over all - because all my glass is canon - i will get either the c300 or c500 - perhaps the c300 with the dgo s35 sensor fixes the lowlight? perhaps having 4K 120p might make the difference. thoughts?

simon gentry The higher frame rates would be nice, one thing to keep in mind, regarding the low light, if you have full frame lenses, and faster lenses, then the 6K full frame is a huge advantage

Well...a T 4.5 variable will never be a good lens for low light shooting unless your camera sensor costs madd money. This was an awesome presentation.

Lowlight is trash out the box. If it was as good as the FX9 in lowlight, I wouldnt think of another camera. But there is a noise reduction setting that preserves a lot of detail making 6400 good. The c500 is the most versatile canera out that can fit any shoot. High end Narrative work with 6K raw and even low budget family vids cuz of the autofocus.
