Canon C70 Hands On Review - Video Consortium
So yes, the new C70 camera is a beast, but even it couldn't make it through 2020 without a few problems. Alex Clark (@alexcl4rk) spent 48 hours with the camera before ultimately filing for an exchange. Maybe we should go with the FX6?

Great video. You gave a nice insight into the issues that you encountered with the camera. also dope S13. Every time I see a 240sx makes me want to put the time into fixing mine.

you are the first one I’ve seen who commented on the sticky and somewhat unreliable joystick. Thought it was just my copy and glad you had it (the joystick . . . ) loosen up after a while. Good, informative video - you imparted a lot of info in a brief time period. Sub’d.

Great video, thanks! Looks like you had a bunch of EF glass there, including crop glass. Why not just look for a simple EF to RF adapter (non-speedbooster)? That Sigma 18-35 and Tokina woulda worked great.

That screen issue truly sucks, I feel your disappointment. I just got the Canon C70 and have loved using it in the limited time I’ve had it, but the screen makes me a little nervous, it seems a bit flimsy. I also agree about the joystick... only semi responsive (especially going right) and mine has yet to loosen up like yours. BUT: the images you got in Chinatown are beautiful.

Thanks for the video, too bad it broke. What kind of rig and viewfinder did you use (9.19)?

Seeing this review (and some a7sIII reviews also with screen issues)... Makes me wonder if early adopters have been really unlucky or if there are more screen issues on latest cameras. Never had any screen issues on my old cameras or ever recalled two new releases with such issues on launch before. But eh, maybe it is just much more reviews now, so the small percentage unlucky buyers are seen more.

Sucks about the screen, but sadly that's just luck of the draw. Any new product will always have growing pains. Also, the canon Speedbooster hasn't even been released yet and I've heard that Feb/March is the ETA. In the mean time, you could always just use the $99 EF-RF adapter.

Sorry to hear that you had issues with the screen orientation. Can’t say I’ve yet to have any such issues on my camera. Though I will note, that the rear top dial does feel loose (it’s been this way from the start) ... and that the screen does rub when opening/closing. I’m expecting to get in the Sony FX6 whenever the shipments resume; and plan to do a review of the Sony FX6 vs Canon C70, so sub to my channel if you’re curious. I have a hefty investment in new RF glass, but also recently added the Sony A7S III to my arsenal... so my E-Mount glass collection is increasing. I plan to keep only one system. Both I’m sure will be amazing. The Canon is clearly the stealthier or the two. So if going low key is your thing, the Canon will likely serve you better. I’ll be keeping an eye out to learn how you made out with the C70. Keep it up!

RED bought all of the Canon EF adapters for Komodo 6K kits. R5, R6, C70, and Komodo 6K have all been far more successful than Canon planned for.

Exept for the fact that it broke.. (sorry for that by the way !) what did you think of the IBIS ? Because looking at some of your footages, if the IS often makes the image wiggling or overcompensated, don't you think it's pretty much unusable... ? Thanks !

C70. Your experience has not deterred me. I am not usually an early adopter so I can wait and see what problems people have and how they are dealt with.

@@robertm3951 An update: The new C70 came in and it has a completely different feel on the screen hinge. There's a clear stop when it should stop twisting. The first one twisted around freely out the box. So looks like no issues so far.

Sorry about the screen, it seems like 1st run production quirks. If you have CPS, Canon will get you running in a little as 1 day if you live close to a service center. Me being in Texas, Canon turns my repairs around in 48hrs. I smashed my R5 into the floor last summer; 48hrs turnaround.

For me, the biggest thing; - Extensive testing of AF with EF glass, not just the short list of officially supported lenses. Would love it to work great. Some says it works, some demo’ed a few misses, it’s just very unclear to me how useable it actually is with a varied array of older L-lenses (and my Tamron 70-200/2.8). To be a true dream camera; - SDI; perhaps two BNC ports, or possibly ability to change what the BNC port is used for. I’d rarely need gencode in my unprofessional shoots, but SDI is useful, either to have one monitor and one cable to switcher at the same time, or just allow long cable runs. - global shutter. I’d love to have rolling be gone. Nothing can compare with global shutter or film, especially in jerky handheld shots it just looks so much better, organic and magic. - ProRes RAW or BRAW support over HDMI. - detachable screen or option to add an additional touch screen.
