Very nice and detailed. Mine “sweep” focus from one end of scale to the other but will never focus. I can only run on MF. Do you think this technique is the issue or do i have a failed part? Just asking before i tear into it. Thanks for your level of detail it is excellent.

the hardest part i find with any repairs like this, if for a lens or a camera body, is to find good parts.can anyone recomend a good place to buy spareparts for canon bodys and lenses?

Thanks always for your videos! Recently got the 28-70mm 2.8 lens (the videos predecessor) and the AF can get just up to locked (focused onto subject and a blue square/beep) only by going very very tiny movements towards this locked point. When it gets to where lock is supposed to be, it will then go up and down around this point but never focus. Most the time it will eventually turn red but sometime it turns blue but doesn’t really focus. MF is ok. In this the some issue? Think the fix would be the same? Thank

Well, your problem is little bit different. The problem which is solved by following this video is when you zoom to 70mm, the focus goes back and forth (hunting), and after a while the green dot blinks in the viewfinder (meaning can't focus). As I understand, you have different problem with your lens, but you might try this repair method in the video, maybe it will help.

Check the aperture... most likely the cable of that is broken.
