I don't think you'll be disappointed! It's a great little lens, excellent image quality, and not too expensive. No IS, but it's not really a problem. Thanks for your comment!

Comment translated to English with Google Translate: Hello choose tell me in Italian these photos you presented how you took them, AV, TV, M I also have the same lens but I haven't used it very often yet, the photos look very beautiful that's why I wanted to know how they were snaps. Thanks ciaooo Reply in English: Thank you! I don't know Italian, so I am using Google translate. It depends. For the panning shots (woman on a bicycle) I used Tv and a slow shutter speed - 1/15s or thereabouts. Best to use some trial and error to get the result you want. P mode works very well with EOS M cameras, so I tend to use it a lot unless I want a special effect or a narrow depth of field or something. In these cases I will switch to Av or Tv. I very rarely use full manual mode. On the camera I use now, an EOS M6 Mk2, I use the Fv mode which I love. With the night shots I specify a low ISO value to reduce grain and then use a tripod. I could hand hold and use a fast shutter speed, but this would mean high ISO and grain. For each shot you have to think about the amount of available light (or if you want to use flash) and what effect you want - motion blur, frozen action, depth of field, etc. You then need to decide what lens and camera settings are needed for the effect you want and whether you should use a tripod or hand hold. Every shot is different. Reply in Italian using Google Translate. Grazie! Non so l'italiano, quindi sto usando Google Translate. Dipende.

I've had this lens on my walkaround 1DX MK III for over a year 2022-2023 ..... It has not come off it .......

I know what you mean! It's quite addictive because of its size, weight, and image quality. Most of my photography recently has required a longer lens, but I love the little 40mm.

Thank you for the time and effort you've taken to make this video. I've found it really useful. I've recently bought a low shutter count Canon EOS 600D/Rebel T3i/Kiss X5 specifically for astrophotography. I was going to rip it apart and remove the infrared filter that's attached to the APC-C sensor. That's no big deal, just a little fiddly to do. I then realized what a damn nice, versatile camera body the, Canon EOS 600D/Rebel T3i/Kiss X really is. I've added the Magic Lantern hack to it: magiclantern.fm/ . This transforms it into a beast of a camera. I already have the the EF-S 10-22mm f3.5 - 4.5 USM from my dying EOS 20D. I've been using this lens since 2005; what a great lens it is too. I'm certainly going to purchase the 40mm EF pancake and the the EF-S 24mm, and maybe the EF-S 35mm IS macro for this body. The Canon EOS 600D/Rebel T3i/Kiss X5, is going for between €150 - €200 here in The Netherlands. That means I'll buy a second body to rip apart for deep sky astrophotography. The original body, I'll use for street photography and lunar and planetary imaging 😀.

Hey Andy, thanks for your comment! I've read a lot about Magic Lantern, but I haven't actually tried it. As you say, the EF-S 10-22mm is a great lens. When I compared it to the later EF-M 11-22mm I was surprised at how much better the images looked from the old EF-S lens. I think you will enjoy the EF 40mm. I too am interested in the EF-S 24mm. After my good experience with the EF 40mm I like these little pancake lenses. Both the EF-S 35mm macro and EF-M 28mm macro lenses interest me because of the built-in ring light. However, I already have the EF 100mm f/2.8L IS macro so don't really need another macro lens. Is there anywhere I can view your astro photos? I've never done this type of photography myself, but some of the images I've seen have been amazing.
