Canon EOS 1D MK III (A close up look) 2007-2017

Canon's third revision of the 1D series is now over 10 years old,it has many features including the ability to use non Canon manual lenses from different camera brands.
This was recorded in Nov 2017.
Note: To get focus conformation you need to buy a converter mount adaptor with a focus confirmation chip!

i have owned this model for 4 years now, and i have to state this camera is absolutely awsome inside out, the results you can get with this camera coupled to L series lenses are amazing. even beyond many modern cameras, the best kit investment i have ever made.

Ok have the 7d but i am going to buy the camera your showing today I shoot portraits fashion wedding and sports so am I making a good choice to add this to my collection

The 1D MK3 was made for speed,with 10 mega pixels, and 10 fps,there is a better option if you don't need the fast motor drive ,that is the sister model the 1Ds MK3 at 21 mega pixels and full frame sensor at 5 fps will be a better choice,i'd say both are capable for portraits sports or still life.

Many thanks for this. Unfortunately the recording appears to cut off before concluding the comment on the functionality of the Olympus 35mm lens. Could you please advise how well the Olympus lens works and what functionality is missing compared with a digital lens, other than autofocus?

The converter had a focus conformation chip so the red indicator on the focus screen would beep and blink if you gained focus,there is no AF of course and the program mode worked,along with AP and Manual modes,the aperture ring must be used to control depth of fiend and it is a working aperture as in it is dark when you closed the stops down,no aperture info is read on the info read outs. In short it just works,you can do this with Pentax or Nikon lens its all the same,no AF manual aperture control,heavy and there might be some bluish purple casts because of the lenses were meant for film and the UV coatings.

Wich is better for low/availeble light....a5d mk2 or this rock like camera?

I think the 5D has a higher ISO rage,if you're not bothered about pro build.

@@Jadensad Thanks for your helpful opinion. I am no sports or action fotographer. I like pictures in a natural look, no flashlight needed. So you are wright the 5d seems better for my kind of pictures. Yours sincerely

It is.the limits of technology in 2007 meant they had to make two versions,the 1D Mk3 DS has the 21 megapixel sensor but it can;t do 10fps.

I am only shooting photo and want to add as a second camera.but if you had a choice now would you own the 7d or the 1d mark iii

It is your choice,but i'd say that the mk3 has a pro build and is more reliable,and is made to work under heavy use the mk3 also has a shutter that will last longer then the 7d.

Did the low screen resolution ever bother you?

Not really,i had a Samsung GX10 before this one,so i never had anything better to compare it to.

Is it worth buying these days, like... compared to a higher Mpx 5d mk2. They're about the same price where i live

It's still a solid performer,i'd say yeas but maybe as a second body,the pro build and high speed drive are plus points,maybe the mk3 ds is a better buy at 12mp,it depends on your own needs,pro build but older system vs newer but in the 5D's case semi pro quality and more higher pixels.

please how to count shuter on canon 1d mk 3 please i need help ?

As far as i know there is no direct way to get the number of the shutter actuations,i think there was a firmware thing ,But im not sure.

I own 1DMkIII and will NEVER part with it! Digic III can't be read by ANY of the standard on-line shutter-count utilities, so your only way to get the actual number is to send it to Canon. Even if you go for a basic cleaning, you'll get the camera back with a paperwork stating the number of actuations. Over the years, I contacted many uninformed e-Bay sellers of both, 1D MkIII and 1Ds MkIII, who were often selling their beat up cameras, looking like they'd been run over by a truck (due to being used around the clock), but nevertheless still claiming their cameras had "low shutter counts", after using those on-line shutter-count utilities, that returned back shutter count equal to the image number sent in. Example: they'd send in IMG_5497 for a shutter count analysis and would get back the number of actuations also stated as "5497". Meanwhile, sellers often would offer with their cameras 2-3 extensively used batteries, (each of which can fire 2000+ shots), yet, still claiming cameras had less than 6,000 shots total, which theoretically meant the camera was used 3(!) times... :)))) When I'd explain that to these sellers, telling them to adjust their listing info accordingly, they'd reluctantly accept my explanations, but wouldn't change anything in their listings, deceiving prospective buyers in the process, akin to changing odometer reading on one's car........

it can do live view as in it opens the shutter so you can see the shot live,,but no it cant do video/

Go for the DII If you want pro build with heavy use,or the 5D if you want less bulk with the chassis but a similar level of features with that semi pro build/features.

1d 3 all the way, but that said 5d mk2 up are great cameras so either way you will have a great camera.

Hi depends on what you want to do with the camera,the 7D if you mean the mk1,has a 17 mega pixel APS C CMOS (Smaller sized but more pixels)and a Digic 4 processor,a lighter built body as does video,and has an 8fps shooting speed. The 1D MK3 is pro built,heavy and uses two Digic 3 processors,has a bigger sized CMOS sensor, APS H at 10 mega pixels,but doesn't do video,the 7D is more enthusiast than pro,it's up to you to decide what you want from a camera and what you'll use it for,the 1D MK3 is really nice but heavy and the 10fps with a burst order of 100 frames before it fills the buffers is over kill for me,but i love the heavy pro build an the hundreds of customise able menus so it's really a case of what you're going to do with it without the camera getting in the way of your vision for taking pictures... No. Most modern Canon dslrs do. The new 1D X mk3 does. 6k

No this one doesn't ,it was the first pro canon to have direct view,that's where you press a button and you can see what the sensor is seeing,the next model up,the MK 4 does video.
