So he says @3:31 there are only two limitations. The screen then lists two very pretty obscure limitations and a vague reference to "some video restrictions". But he doesn't clearly point out that with EFS lenses you can NOT SHOOT 50FPS IN FULL HD. EFS lenses restrict you to standard HD (1280 x 720) at 50fps. Talk about misleading, I wonder why they mentioned no Focus Preset on older super-telephoto lenses but completely ignored that major video limitation???

So I understand the reduction to 12mp image on the full frame Canon R when using an EF-S lens compared to an EF-S lens on my 70D crop frame 24mp. Is the final image the same quality on my 70D 24mp as on the full frame Canon R when it is reduced to a crop frame when using an EF-S lens?
@CanonUSA6 жыл бұрын
Hi Mark! It is difficult to draw a comparison between two different types of camera here. The way that the cropping of the frame works is different in both cameras. However, even with the crop, you still have to consider the benefits of the full-frame sensor over the APS-C sensor. If you were to compare an image from both side-by-side that was the exact same size, we think you'll be very happy with the image quality from the EOS R. Plus, if you need a higher pixel count, you can always use an EF or RF lens on the EOS R and still enjoy superior image quality. We hope this helps!

Rudy, Ef-s lens are automatically cropped to 1.6 when mounted. My guess is because of the effective image circle of th he lens. Any way to override that to take advantage of the full frame? For example, using the ef-s 10-22mm and not having it automatically crop? I'm willing to live with vignetting or softness at corners to get that wider angle.

I would guess that as long as it's an EF mount then it will. It probably won't automatically detect that it's a lens made for crop sensor, so you'd have to crop in post. That's what I've seen so far at least.

The type of lens you get depends on the type of subjects you will be recording. For example, whether you will record just you, or a group of people. Will you need to record close-up or full body shots? How far away will the camera be from the subject? A standard zoom such as the RF 24-105mm f4L IS USM, is a good, multipurpose lens, to consider. I would suggest you contact our EOS Team at 1-800-OK-CANON (1-800-652-2666) Monday - Friday 9:00 am to 9:00 pm ET. Saturday 9:00 am to 7:00 pm ET, excluding holidays. Hi Brian: If the images provided by your EOS M50 meet your needs, there is no reason for you to upgrade. If instead, you feel you need the higher resolution, winder lens selection and great low light performance of a full frame sensor camera, you might want to consider the EOS R. The single SD slot is the worst aspect of the Canon EOS R. a great omission by Canon. Very unfortunate for owners of previous Canon mirrorless cameras.

The single SD slot is the camera's worst aspect?! Yeah, if you store SD cards in a shower stall. The worst aspect is something about normal performance, not rare occurrences. If one card slot were its worst aspect, the R would be-at $2300-the world's best camera deal.

@PrimeInChina6 жыл бұрын
IBIS is insanely overrated. The technology isn't very good by anyone yet. The GH5 has decent stability with IBIS+Lens stabilization but for anything of movement you will still need a gimbal or a monopod. I've also never had an SD card fail. I understand it happens, but it isn't something that happens often. FPS is also an insanely overrated feature people go on and on about. I rarely see a video and think "Man, this video would have been so much better with 120 FPS." When I see a video I'm unimpressed with it is usually real world application issues, not camera features. The truth is, even cheaper entry level cameras are pretty amazing now and lens is more important than body at this point. But the most importance is how well you use the gear you have. Oh and if $300 is life changing, you should make some better life choices. Cameras aren't a cheap hobby to have.

marioslrzn, for what it's worth, Full HD capped to 60fps instead of 120fps is quite yesteryear-while comparatively thrifty rivals already offer 180fps-especially for a camera that, ironically, actually is spec'd like a pro video camera. Of course, the R doesn't have S-log. It has C-log and, indeed, 10-bit 4:2:2 (recorded off-board).
