The R6 is fantastic for wildlife, birds. I am really impressed with it. Plus it doubles as a great landscape portrait camera too. It took me a little while to get used to full frame, as you feel like you are losing something but you really aren’t in reality. I am hoping the R7 shares the image quality of the full frame and I would definitely pick one up and move my R6 over to just macro, landscapes and portraits only. To me, this is to just get the low end, beginner market again, especially with the R10. I can't see them fleshing out the APS-C RF lens line-up, just as they didn't do a lot with the DSLR APS-C lenses. The R7 could be useful for birders and people that need the extra reach of the crop though.. I have a Canon 70D, and will be going to Full frame as soon as I can scrounge enough money to make the transfer with a couple of lenses, but it's most likely going to be Sony Full Frame. I may consider something like a R10 as a replacement for my 70D as a short term upgrade, (if it is an upgrade for me) but here in Australia, The R7 is only $100 less than a Sony A7III, so I wouldn't want to spend that kind of money for a stop gap camera, I would just spend the money on going full frame.

Great job on the video guys. Looks like a fun trip! As an EF-M user I'm not thrilled to see the M5 Mark II released as an RF mount camera, but I get the whole wanting to match Sony/Nikon and please the one mount multiple sensor format people. It does hurt to see I'll never get the longer per clip video recording times in-camera on EF-M. Bought a Ninja V to do that with the M6ii (plus h.265 8-bit for storage savings). Maybe another used M6ii is in my future until I see what Sony and Nikon come up with moving forward. ;D Might as well buy only used EF-M gear at this point unless there is a big discount discontinuation sale. 9:15 battery oopsy. ;D I once made a video where I called "FOV" "perspective" instead. Simple question. Will the straight out comera jpegs look as good as those coming out of an Iphone 13 or similar phone. Yes, I know, the bigger sensor will provide better ultimate resolution and image quality. However, most users of the R10 camera will not have the knowledge to get those type of results. For example, will and HDR photo look as good and be as seemless to take as it is with an Iphone? The R10 doesn't have IBIS, but my Iphone does. Will the camera embed gyro stabilization data for post production stabilization? Does the video metadata include information on the orientation so that video shot in portrait has the right orientation straight out of camera? Is there a seemless connection between my camera and phone, so that I may transfer photos and videos on the fly? Yeah, I thought not. Computational photography in phones will soon destroy the mirrorless market unless such features trickle down to camera bodies. Ease of use and connectivity is what this segment is looking for. No matter how nice the image quality is, this camera will flop if getting connected with your phone requires a degree. Basically, people want the easy of their Iphone, with many lens options, and bigger sensor of traditional cameras. R U Listening CANON!?

Sony also has some really small f2.8 zooms for their APS-C's, and with stabilisation, if Fuji made a camera with a regular body with good grip and a F2.8 zoom with built in stab and small size, it be a killer system honestly.

A very excellent First Impression Review ! After waiting for a Sony A7000 for so long (in December 2019 I had bought a Sony A6600 out of desperation) and thinking about a Sony A7 IV or a GH6 for the last few months, the R7 seems to be the closest to my needs , if the R7 together with the adapter works well with old EF lenses. 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔 I strongly believe that the R7 is not a flagship apsc r camera. It's not a fully weather sealed body. It dosen't have the 3 pin remote connector It dosen't have gps It dosen't have 3 dial wheels. It dosen't have a full size or a mini hdmi It dosen't have wifi 6 support or an inbuilt wifi transmitter. Dosen't have a top info display screen like the R5 It dosen't have an Ethernet port / it dosen't support the WFT battery grip even though it's the same battery. And it dosen't have a CF express card. No flash sinc port And it dosen't have high res view finder and a high res back screen even though Canon already dose it for the R5. This is a 90d successor and not a 7d mark 2 successor. I think canon will put it all these features in an other camera and call it a R9 and that it will come with a 2000$ price tag .

I think they released these cameras because there is some demand for it. Personally I used both FF and crop systems, these 2 bodies are for wildlife/sports shooters, they are not replacing the M system. These are huge compared to the tiny M bodies.

Chris Niccols: "..:The R10 is affordable...." 979 EUR for a APS-C body only....is quite a lot, especially with only 2 native APS-C Lenses, two slow 18-45 and 18-150 Zooms, and "old" EF-S APS-C Lenses with adapter only. Just for the record, into September 2021, the Fullframe Nikon Z5 was 999 EUR only, with IBIS, with dual card slots, etc. Albeit not that fast (R10 - 15fps mech. shutter), but much better IQ & DR, and weather sealing like the Z6 & Z7 Series, according to Nikon, too. ;-) /edit text added.

First, thank you for great review. And to Fuji for investing in better sensor and chip technology ! As far as portraits and landscape shots I really, really enjoy my Fuji X--T4 and older gear's results. Comments: 1. If we can screw on a fan why can't we screw on a modular screen? (i.e. have a flippy screen version and a X-T3 style screen which we can buy separately), So neither photographers nor videographers need to compromise for latest tech? 2. Instead of eliminating SS, ISO, and exposure dials, Why not have 3 tactile (clicky) dials each with LED on top (LED would display SS, ISO, Exposure) By making dials with displays, the quick settings C1-C7 would have maximum positive effect, and people who like dials (many people who buy Fuji for similarly to film cameras) I suppose something like that could be done on aperture ring as well: have infinite turn, with an LED F# on the lens: thus aperture settings can be set by camera or manually with. i.e. apparent trend to eliminate aperture ring is worrying. 3. While it is tactile, making the S,C,M switch a button gives the setting C1-C7 modes max positive effect, so I support this new design decision. Also S,C,M switch has always looked a little weak. 4. Having the back dial on the X-H2S not be clickable is fine with me: I find on my X-t4 it is hard to tell if the force I'm applying is going to click it or rotate dial. The larger focus nub looks good on the X-H2S. Standardize it! The suggestions above would reduce some of the parts needed between various X-T cameras. In a supply-chain constrained world, with a lot of camera competition, having fewer Fuji models would help Fuji's R&D efforts stay better focused. Where possible standardize on what makes fanbase passionate. 5. Even if my X-T4 doesn't have processing power of X-H2S, please backport improved AF algorithms. Adding even an additional slower mode (but much more accurate focus!!) would help those of us who want to do light sport shooting, or just take pics of graduations where there are a lot of people in picture. Promises were made about AF improvements in X-T4 that are merely incremental compared to Sony and Canon's order of magnitude improvements. Backport improvements where possible to maintain the brand PASSION that got you where you are. Keep at it Fuji on the R&D side: keep innovating and pushing what is possible on your cameras & lenses. -Ben

The R7 in a Body of the M-System would be amazing. But I will not buy a new R APS-C Camera. There are no good APS-C RF Lenses. Could need years to bring out a solid lens lineup and than these cameras are outdated :D After Canon is going bad on the M-System I will not invest in any other R Camera. Also that they not allow Sigma and Tamron on the RF Mount is bad for the competition. Bye Canon, I guess you lose a lot of EOS M Owners. :)
