With proper settings, the R3 will record up to 6 hours of continuous video if connected to a power source through the USB-C connection with no overheating (although it may get warm). With battery only, it will last up to 2:15. There is no longer a 29:59 minute restriction. Yay!

Would've enjoyed ProRes Raw, Waveforms, full size HDMI and some more transparency from Canon regarding the overheating as I've already been burnt in the past through pre-ordering the R5 and R6 :(

Eye Control is a feature Canon has used in the 90s. My film Canon EOS 3 has it and it’s fun but that camera is from 98. Obviously is doesn’t really work and I’ve been hoping they would bring it back.

With such a fast sensor readout, I’d be curious how rolling shutter will be for video. Hopefully it will be well controlled. This would make a killer B cam to cinema eos gear.

I would say the R5 would make more sense unless there are any key features that you need from the R3. Jake

IF I have understood you correctly and the R3's Eye Control AF doesn't work in AI-Servo Autofocus then that is a huge pain in the wotsit..... Surely if one wants to change the subject to focus so quickly (using the eye control) then they'd also need AI-Servo?.... Thanks for pointing that out. I do a lot of wildlife and AI-Servo is essential for birds in flight. I have two R5s and was considering an R3 for it's Eye controlled AF but without AI-servo then I don't see it as a goer for wildlife at all, given also that it's 'only' 24mp against 45mp for the R5. Please correct me if I have misunderstood you.

I think Jake mis-spoke here. Just by looking at Canon's own example of the two bikes while using eye AF, the camera must have been in AI Servo. Like you say, the whole feature would be pretty pointless unless you could use it with moving subjects.

Did Canon intentionally “cripple” this body with the 2 different card slots?! I think so because if this body came with 2 CFE slots, there would be NO reason as to why someone would buy the 1DXIII. I mean, I HAVE the 1DXIII and I freely admit that the R3 is the better body BUT the reliability of my 1DXIII means I don’t want or need to upgrade!

Probably technical marketing for the distinctive card slots as many laptops have the SD card, which is convenient for image captioning, editing, and uploading. While owning two 1DXIIs, I didn't feel any far reaching advantages to upgrade to a 1DXIII. The R3 makes much more sense for a sports mirrorless plus the ruggedness of the 1DX series. One major difference are the memory cards, but no biggie after plunking down 6 grand, right? No matter what the new features are, for some, just not what was expected or others, just not good enough. My pholosphy is to become a better photographer from what's in the bag-having a nice full-featured stove and new pots and pans doesn't make anyone a better cook. Haha

They needed to save money somewhere (that sensor was expensive to make and design)... I'm betting there are quite a few R5 components being repurposed in there (especially considering the megapixel throughput of the R5 and R3 are very similar).

@M Tech I never seen nikon do anything special. They just had the best full frame image quality after they got the sony sensor for awhile until recently. I feel like sony is king with specs and canon is king of the features outside of image quality
