C500: ergos, i/o, battery life, dynamic range, internal ND R5C: stills, setup, portability, resolution, price, lens selection Both have their place. I own an R5C/C70 combo and feel pretty well covered across the board.

This test was obviously designed to make the R5C win. The items where the C500 would shine (DR, ports, same backup media, battery life for example) you just avoided. That being said they are both great cameras and depending on the application each camera could be “the best” in a given scenario Then there is the dark horse that wasn’t tested… C70 (admittedly not full frame)

This is really quite a silly comparison. These are two very different cameras with very different intended use cases. The R5c is meant to be a true hybrid camera where the C500-ii is designed around full fledged video production work. The I/O differences alone make that clear. Also, you could have easily used a DJI Ronin RS3 gimbal with the C500 and held it the same way as the R5c for those shots.

C500 mk2 all day long. The image is the entire reason for the purchase and the C500 mk2 clearly has the "look!"

How did you get 15 stops out of the R5C? I’ve been seeing about 12.5 and that’s pushing it

Native Iso 800 or 3200 and some Noise reduction settings

RAW + C log 2 will give you about 16 but they will be noisy.

In CINED IMATEST results the Canon R5C got around 12 stops of dynamic range. Manufactures always like to spice up their results a bit.

Can you guys test the dynamic range like how much lattitude both camera has under harsh sunlight. most of the quality test you did are under soft sunlight

R5C more flexibility BUT... C500Mark II better video quality and codec on video... and only video C500Mark II for sure, if you are hybrid guy, R5C is for you.

They didnt show how they had to change the battery on the R5C every 20 minutes of filming in 4K.. and having to shut down the camera tosave battery while setting the menu up :P V mount or battery grib is needed to use it for filming video.

It's got just a little more dynamic range than the R5C. That said, the R5C fits in my budget much better. Haha

If you’re gonna do Canon you might as well do these together with the C70. We have the C500s as studio cameras, C70 for the field and R5. I couldn’t justify R5c due to horrible battery life. The C300 mark three is the other one to include. The high dynamic range sensor found in the C70 and C300mkiii, infuriates me because the c500 mark two came out first and is more expensive yet doesn’t have the same DGO sensor and amount of dynamic range that the other cameras have. Canon, crippled the C70 on purpose in order to preserve C300 sales. C70 with SDI would’ve competed better with the FX6. Honestly this is the reality. Atlanta is becoming the new Hollywood and recently I needed to rent a battery down there and I called a friend who works in the industry in Atlanta and he says honestly he doesn’t know anyone that owns Canon Cinema EOS cameras. Everyone he knows has either Arri, RED, or Sony. Canon is just not on the filmmakers list as it once was. They’ve been quiet and I’m sure it’s difficult to compete with the likes of Sony, especially with semiconductor shortage. Sony has the biggest fab on earth to build sensors. RED now has Nikons money to build sensors. So we shall see what the future holds for Cinema EOS

We really need a new version of XLR audio interface better than the current Tascam. And a better digital on camera mic than the stupid E1d. Come on Canon.
