What I think we'd all like to see: Noise and sharpness comparison of all 4K modes. Deliberately put the camera into an overheating situation and show us ways to handle it (i.e. shooting in the available modes Canon stated) and see how it might interrupt the on-set process. Obviously, pushing the camera to the limits of typical outdoor use and see how it does. And, my personal favorite, treat the camera like a 4K machine and only shoot 4K 30p with supplemented 60p/120p clips...I assume the camera will be incredible in this mode.

Great first look! Could you please do an in-depth test of the camera recording modes to see if it easily overheats? Try it with short clips too, meaning that you start recording, then stop, start again... which is common in live events etc. I mean, you aren’t always recording... Also, you should check if there’s much rolling shutter, which might be another major issue. And see how’s the video quality in the different recording modes / frames per second.

Okay, so could you show how the Camera performs at 8K Raw and 4K at 24fps? - everyone is complaining about the overheating but the way I see it, who the heck needs a 30min 8k raw file at 30fps or a 20min 4k 120fps clip??
@Feesh794 жыл бұрын
Because you guys are missing the point, we aren't complaining about it overheating in 8k, that's understandable, we are complaining about it overheating even in 4k 30 and 4k60, even the R6 will overheat in 4k 30 and canon loyalists keep deferring to the "you don't need 8k for that long" instead of addressing the unusability in 4k60. When have you ever had an entire wedding last 20 minutes? But I appreciate canon for at least making progress, just took them 5 years
@AesonRose4 жыл бұрын
@@Feesh79 let's be real. What is "Unusable?" - that is such an overused term nowadays. If you need to shoot a 20min 4k clip at 60fps - even at a wedding, you are wasting you're space lol Also, there have been zero overheating issues at 24fps reported - why not just shoot the wedding at the ideal frame rate of 24 instead of 30 or 60? I see what you mean, but just because one wedding video person can't use this camera for an overrated tripod shot at 4k60fps that's basically never going to see the light of day - doesn't mean it's unusable. Most MILLION dollar budget films don't even record at that high resolution for that long - why would the common freelance filmmaker? It just doesn't make sense for people to complain so much lol

Regardless of the outcome don’t forget this is not a pro cinema camera.. Just cause it does 8K for limited time it doesn’t mean we should expect it to compete and hold up just like it. Maybe we should expect a comparison with another mirrorless- like the new Sony coming out. But anyway. I’d still be curious to see.
@christianmackin94654 жыл бұрын
I would still like to see a comparison to understand exactly how the image quality differs from the C500 Mk II. All the I/O and audio differences are obvious. It is not clear however why the color depth, bit rates, IBIS and resolution of the R5 don’t make the image quality it better than the C500 Mk II. Additional factors that could be considered beyond strict image quality could be RF glass options and AF capabilities. In the end, what makes the C500 Mk II significantly better in image quality than the R5? Why will the R5 not make the A-camera spot when shooting professional commercials and documentaries based on image quality alone and not workflow.
@koreybartos4 жыл бұрын
@@MrDonuts10 Surely. But to assume this won't be used as a B and C camera is silly. I wouldn't ever use this for any long form content, but Armando has been using/grading/and editing canon cameras for a long while. It'd be nice to see a sequence cut with both cameras. It'll obviously lack the latitude you can get from the C500MKII, but I am curious to see if you can run that 8K RAW side by side and get mad close. And naturally I want to see if there is a noticeable difference between the IBP and ALL-I modes when compressed by KZbin. These are the kind of practical tests I like to see.
@koreybartos4 жыл бұрын
@@christianmackin9465 The R5 will probably cut in nicely with the cinema line, but unless you have a handful of bodies you're not going to be using any of the 8K modes reliably as an A cam for long format stuff like documentaries and I wouldn't take just an R5 into a commercial shoot until I know for sure it can run for a good while at 4K 24p ALL-I. And then let's hope they give us RAW for 4K in a firmware update.

Canon disappointed me for a while, I wanted to use their cameras, as they are wonderfully engineered, the company looks out for creatives, the glass is phenomenal, colour science is great, and I want to just use their dual pixel autofocus for videos. But the inherent lack of modern features, and their constant crippling of their mid range and enthusiast cameras just made me feel cheated. No longer is that the case!
