This looks to be an awesome lens. Little pricey but man, 24-105 2.8 is ideal. Great for event photography, wedding photography, model shoots, gr. senior sessions, portraits, you name it, I could use it.

Looks like a great lens for a fashion or wedding photographer. But the old combo of 24-70 f2.8 and 70-200 f2.8 is still almost 2x longer. It seems like you still need the 70-200. And, this is the 3rd 24-105 RF lens canon has produced. I don't recall anyone saying those 24-105s were the magical focal lengths they needed. I have the 24-105 RF L, and love it, but I don't recall anyone gushing over it.

Lindsey, FYI - Tamron made an EF mount 28-105 f/2.8 (all the way through), from 1997 - 2002. I still have mine. It was great for film but not made for modern high megapixel cameras.

I'm confused - I have several EF mount lenses and can manually change the aperture but it has to be done with controls on the camera. How is this different other than using a ring on the lens itself?

Hi! The result will be the same. All you have to do is dial the ring to your preferred aperture and you'll be good to go. If you need any help on how to do that you can check out the manual or reach out to our friendly support to to assist. I've been using my ef 24-105mm f4 since I got it, the only issue I've ever had with it is it sometimes isn't shallow enough and I can't use it in low light. It's still my favorite lens out of all the lenses that I have and the one that I use the most. Easily the next lens I'm going to be getting.

With maximum apertures of F4 or wider, each of these lenses should be able to freeze time with no problem. Hope this helps!

Aperture control is oldschool and is on every manual lens in existing.. :) but yeah it cool enogh.. but what about making RF to RF adaptor with speeedbooster for the C70 and ND for the R5C to be able to use the RF lens on those cameras it was made for.

People complaining about the price are hilarious. The 24-70 f/2.8 retails for $2399, and this lens takes the spot of two lenses (mostly). Great addition to the lineup. If I didn't have a 28-70 f/2, I'd look into it.

@@HeroShotz Lens is perfect if you only want to carry around 1 lens. Otherwise, with the power zoom, it is more fitting as a video lens than a photo lens. It's much heavier and more expensive than the F4 version. And I wouldn't use a 24-105mm as a portrait lens unless I have no other choice. I usually go with Prime Lenses for bokeh and sharpness.

I have a few f2.8 lenses, the 15-35, the 70-200, and a 100mm macro. There is that gap, the 35-70 gap.... So, my all-around lens is the 24-105 f4.0, but... it's f4.0, not f2.8. I love it, but now, dang you, Canon! Now, you produce this gem? Can this replace my everyday 24-105 f4.0? It certainly fills the gap and then some. I have so much $$$ in this glass; not much left for this. I think I can get by with my f4.0. It is a great lens, and I don't always need a 2.8 aperture; plus, this f2.8 is longer and heavier. I feel like my Canon camera/lens setup is better than my abilities.

Honestly I just see no reason for this lens. ESP with a 3000$ price tag. Sure it’s a great focal length but the 24-105 F4 does 95% of what this lens can do. The fact this is as large as a 70-200 is just not worth it for compact travel or casual photo shoots. I see this mainly a hybrid cinema lens with AF and focus motor on a C70 or R5c. I’m completely satisfied with my 24-105 and next will look to add the 70-200 F4 for how small it is. It’s a cool Engineering accomplishment though. And doest sigma have a 50-150 f1.8 or something too.

lift some weights, and you'll be fine. The 28-70 f/2 stays on my camera 95% of the time, and I use it as a walk around lens without issue. It's heavier than the 24-105 2.8. $3000 isn't a bad price for what this is.

It's lighter than the 28-70 f2. Plenty of people use that for long periods of time. The key isn't so much about weight, but balance, for me. The 28-70 f2 feels heavy with just the lena/camera system because it's so front heavy and your hand is gripping at the back. But by adding weight to the back, by adding the battery grip, it feels lightee despite actually being heavier because it's not fighting your grip anymore.
