The correctional lens in the adapter has X 0.25 crop factor, so all together its more like 87mm f/1.4, which is very nice focal length for portraits.

Awesome! Could not get my adapter to work until I watched this video. I did have to hold that "one-sided house" looking lever to the side and get the screw to the left of it (as you hold the lens with that on the bottom) in order to get the aperture ring on the lens to work. Thanks!

Hi! Yes I tested this adapters on many Canon DSLRs, work good! At wide open aperture lenses got higher color fringing which on my personal opinion is very useful for HD video. It called "Optical Dream Light Effect". At f/2.8 lens gets much sharper all the way to f/8. This adapter will not work with Canon mirrorless cameras though, they need different adapter.

Hey man, late reply! Turn the lens adapter to "Open", then turn the ring on the lens closest to the adapter. Then they should pull apart. He does it in the video at 6:40 ish

Great - thanks for this. For macro just get a glassless version. Won't focus to infinity but ideal for copying negatives & slides on a lightbox. Works the same way as in the video ;-)

I've found that a 21mm extension tube gives you just over a full 35mm frame copy with glassless adapter with negs on a lightbox.

Hie guys i have a Canon FD 50mm f1.4 SSC with an adaptor without glass. I can't make the aperture to change just like you said. At 3:08 when you turn the adapter I wanna ask what happens to the lock screw on the adapter. Because mine when I move the adaptor ring to unlock, the screw is almost touching(5mm gap) a metal latch protruding from the lens. If I remove the adapter, put the f16 on the lens and move the latch 5mm to close the aperture, it doesn't close an amount equivalent to f16.. maybe f11 only.

Please could anyone help me I'm looking for an adapter to use sigma 18-35mm f1.8 nikon fit that I want to use on Canon 80d but the thing is I want to have the capability to use the auto focus and also the usual face tracking mode and other types of tracking that the 80D has. +Quaaartz I know this is late, but there is VERY LITTLE difference between modern lenses and the 80s FD lenses. The problem is when you use an adapter you lose some control over sharpness and light intake because it is going through 3 things now not 2 - The FD glass, the adapter glass, and the mirror in the camera. If we were to use an FD camera w/ an FD lens, and an EOS camera from today with an EF lens from today, youd see almost no difference at all. Only thing different is that our cameras have more control settings over film cameras

Hi there, I have an FD to EF adapter like that, but I have issues to get right exposure. Once in Manual Mode, and set the aperture ring on the lens, what do you do next? Do you set the same aperture on the camera and then adapt shutter speed and ISO?

No, in manual mode the camera should know that it isn't controlling the aperture. You set it on the lens, then you set the shutter speed and iso to get the correct exposure (hopefully your camera shows a meter for this). If your camera doesn't have a meter showing the current exposure than you can use an external lightmeter or you can guess with some experience and some rules of thumb like the sunny sixteen rule (if it's a nice sunny day you can shoot at f/16 with the iso and shutter speed inverse of each other, e.g. iso 100 and shutter speed of 1/100). You can then adjust starting from a rule like that to suit your situation. Alternatively you could use aperture priority mode, in which case the camera will pick the shutter speed (and some cameras have auto iso as well) for the correct exposure given the f-stop set on the lens. Only these two modes will meter correctly when shooting with a lens whose aperture is not being controlled by the camera on most cameras. Actually many won't even let you use the other modes in this case.

be very careful with canon fd to canon ef/efs adapter. There is one very common and known problem that FD mount protrude inside the camera body = > when you take picture, that mirror inside has to be flipped upward which means the mirror MAY OR WILL strike the FD mount and result in a shattered mirror and may be damaged sensor since the sensor is right behind the mirror. I don't know why but the guy in this video HAS NEVER TAKEN ANY PHOTO WHEN THE FD LENS IS MOUNTED. YOU DON'T HEAR ANY SHUTTER SOUND, ONLY HEAR THE BEEPING SOUND WHICH ONLY CONFIRM EXPOSURE OR FOCUS WITHOUT FLIPPING THE MIRROR

Well there bound to be work around methods for just about any problems. But why risk it when you can attach other lens like nikon, contax/yashica, m42 to eos without losing infinite focus even with non optic adapter. Plus, any of those lens wont break your mirror

I've only heard of loosing infinite focus when using a non optic mount, which are only intended for macro photograpy. The "break your mirror" issue is an exaggeration. This will only occur if you have the wrong mount on your camera (aka, do your research before buying something). The purpose of buying FD lens is because not everyone has the money to buy a proper 35mm f2, or a 70 - 210 zoom. A couple hundred dollars might seem cheap to a successful photographer/videographer, but beginners take years to get to the point where they make enough to invest in proper glass, and yet they must make do some how. Yes there are trade offs, you loose 0.6 stop of aperture aprox, and a 1.25 crop factor on top of whatever your sensor crop factor is. In my particular case, I need fast lenses for lots of low light places where you cannot realistically place any lighting. I shoot video (and I will be uploading FD lenses tests), and I'm severely limited budget wise, I have no other option, but still must do the job. At the end of the day, nobody is arguing that FD lenses are better then proper EF lenses, but for some people it is years off, and no other option is available.

Hello! Sorry for delays. That adapter is not designed to make crisp sharp images, its impossible due to correctional lens quality. What I would suggest is to use any lens you would want in Nikon, Pentax, M42, Olympus mounts. Those mounts could be adapter to Canon EOS cameras without glass and work just fantastic. Please let me know what lens you are looking for and I might help you from there.

I could send you some photos I have tried to do. I talked to my sister who also likes fotography to discuss the issue. We think that there is some light coming into the wrtong way. if might be a gap between the lens and the adaptor or all the way through the camera. We are no experts to know that. FD to EOS adapters suck, also Minolta MD to EOS, the best vintage lens mounts for Canon EOS are M42, Yashica/Contax and Olympus.

Need to use one more piece of glass between FD lenses and EOS camera simply destroy quality of these great lenses. Use them rather on cameras with m43 sensors and for Canon EOS I recomend to use wonderfull old manual Ai Nikkor lenses. You will get perfect optical quality without any compromises in sharpnes, speed and optical quality and they are cheap too.

No, you can shoot regular way through viewfinder, works the same. But for fine focus I mostly use live view. Focus confirmation works better when shoot through viewfinder though.

Aperture blades could be stack wide open, it is pretty common for vintage lenses. Most likely there is oil covered aperture blades make then sticky. Has nothing to do with adapter.

I could be missing something but I believe there are no EF to FD/FL mount adapter, so you can use your EF lenses on Canon FD mount film cameras. It's the other way around. There are lots of FD to EF mount adapters in the market. Thanks for the video but my question is, how come your camera makes a beep sound when in focus, whereas my 5D MK II won't? Yes. But you won't be able to focus to infinity. The flange distance (distance from glass to sensor) will be too great. It might make a better macro lens though haha

Many reasons, depends on camera, also make sure you got af confirmation chip installed on adapter, without chip camera cant read aperture setting. There are 1st, 2nd and 3rd generation of dandelion chips. 1st and 2nd will not work properly on Canon 70D, 6D, 60D, 5D Mk III. 3rd generation chips should work, but I didnt test them yet, so cant guarantee. Try some forums, it may be helpful. I hope it helps!
