Yes, BUT! Will this converted lens focus to infinity? That seems to be a problem with FL and FD lenses.
@martycastilla66082 жыл бұрын
Yes, that is the reason for changing the mount, to correct the flange to focal distance so that infinity focus is possible.
@jmoss992 жыл бұрын
Interesting Marty. How does changing the mount correct the 6 foot max distance to the infinity focus? I don't understand how this works. Can you break it down for us?
@fdtoef2 жыл бұрын
Yes. The conversion plate servers two primary purposes, enable the physical mounting of a FDn lens to a Canon EOS body and more importantly corrects the Flange Focus Distance. Correcting the Flange Focus Distance of the lens for the EOS body is what enables the ability to focus to infinity. I won’t go into all the details about Flange Focus Distance (FFD), but I will say the FDn lenses are design for a 42mm FFD and the EOS bodies are designed as 44mm FTF distance. This means the EOS bodies place the lens 44mm aware from the sensor, but the FDn lens needs to be placed 42mm away from the sensor to focus as designed. The conversion plate places the FDn lens 2mm closer to the bodies sensor, then the original mount could have. This is why the cheap screw on adapters don’t give you infinity focus, they don’t move the lens 2mm closer, but instead makes the FFD worst by adding to it, taking away even more focal range.

That is the kind of answer I was looking for. Good Job! I have the Canon FL 55mm F1.2 Fluorite Lens elements 1968 (1.05822 lbs) and have been interested in a way to use it without including more glass in an adapter, cheap glass. Do your kits work for my lens? I have a Canon 2000D which is a ASP-C sensor. Can you add a link to that kit for us.

Trying to convert the 20mm f2.8 and the piece that I was sent is not the same as the brass-looking piece you have in this video. Do you have any updated videos or instructions to follow? Just getting a piece of paper to watch a video that isn't relevant to the conversion kit I was sent isn't helpful.
@fdtoef3 жыл бұрын
The current design eliminates the need for the brass part. Simply remove the aluminum ring that that the brass part would have mounted to and instead use the provided replacement ring. The FDn 150-600mm video has a similar replacement ring design.

What is the benefit of this over a using an adapter?
@brainbonkk5 жыл бұрын
much better image quality, wider field of view. adapters require internal optics to achieve infinity focus. those optics kill the IQ and end up "zooming" in the image a bit. this mod is a far superior way to use vintage glass on a modern camera.
@fdtoef4 жыл бұрын
The conversion maintains the original crop factor and infinity focus. All adapters will change the focal length of the lens. Adapters have to move the lens further away from the EOS body. This turns a 50mm into a 55mm or more. Because of this change in focal length, the lens can no longer focus to infinity. This limits how far your subject can be from you and still have them in focus.

Have you ever had a problem with screws that were frozen... unable to be loosened?
@fdtoef3 жыл бұрын
Yes, and there is no single solution. It is always best to start with high quality JIS screw drivers, not Phillips screw drivers. Apply constant downward pressure on the screw driver, while turning the screw driver. If this initially does not work I apply a tiny bit of liquid wrench penetrating oil, let it set for a few days and try again. Another approach is to use a narrow tip heat gun to apply heat to the screw. Even with all this I’ve snapped off a screw on my FL 600mm focal unit. I’ve yet to fix it. Fused screws is always a risk with these older lenses.

@@roehaus1 It depends on the screw size, but a 2.5mm or 3mm JIS are the two I use the most. I haven’t tried an impact driver yet. I’ll have look into that.
