This instrument needs more love. I mean really? The bass is very unique but people gather around the cello or violin at school. Which kinda makes me feel a bit left alone but at least people try to play mine. They always ask me how can I play such a instrument, which makes me kind of happy that I get attention. My orchestra is small just to let you know.

With thumb positions, half positions, and off finger board notes, you may need to in certain circumstances
@samuelwalker64967 жыл бұрын
Lauren H it's the same thing with all instruments really, looking at you hands to see if your playing the right notes is fine every once in a while. But if you look at your hands too much you're looking at your hands more than the music, and you'll probably end up playing something wrong because you don't know whats coming next in the music.
@msummers78087 жыл бұрын
It is fine to do if you know what your playing next and counting. However, it is possible that your teacher is also trying to get you to rely on your ear. It's always ok to look over though if you know the piece.

@daniellemyers50278 жыл бұрын
Yeah, most generally you have to buy them. My teacher always had a Nice stash of them in the back though.
@knucklesfan88 жыл бұрын
Hey, I have a question about double bass. I'm a bit unfamiliar with them but I'm trying to make an animation with someone playing it. Since there's no frets, how do you know where to put your fingers on them? Is it just pure muscle memory? I'd assume if your finger's even a slight bit off it would sound off key, so how does that work? I'm a drummer so my knowledge of even regular bass guitar is limited.
@dolethewhip8 жыл бұрын
Mr. Brock Lee So for the double bass, yea it's based off of muscle memory, and you would also need to know what it sounds like when it's in tune. And yeah if you are just a bit off it sounds a bit terrifying. I will also give you some bonus knowledge on the bass guitar, since it has frets it is really hard to not get your notes in tune, besides if you just didnt put your finger right on the fret or your bass was out of tune. And I think you have heard that the bass is also like the drums. So to answer your question yeah it is based off of muscle memory, and training your ear to hear the right note.
@knucklesfan88 жыл бұрын
Ah, thanks! So if it's muscle memory and just having a good ear, then more power to double bassists! I'd imagine it would take a long time to learn that.

Lovely! I am a bass guitar player, and have been interested in playing one of these, and how it compares in different genres. Seeing how it's done without frets for starters! I love the bowing techniques, so much smoother than 'pluck, pluck, pluckety pluck' all the time. I agree with earlier comments, this instrument needs more love than it gets, in the classical world, the violins & cellos get the spotlight, in rock/jazz etc. the guitars/saxophones/trumpets get the spotlight, the bass is just, well, there! But basses are like the brakes on a car... you only notice them when they're not there!

Delightful. Francesco is showing people all around the world that the bass can be a source of great pleasure. Keep playing Francesco and we will keep watching & listening .
