When you are doing HDMI out? The only way is putting the camera in manual focus mode. It won't work over 30 minutes without doing a weird workaround. You can use the camera as a USB webcam through their special software: www.usa.canon.com/internet/portal/us/home/support/self-help-center/eos-webcam-utility Not super high resolution, but I think it is usually suffucient.

This works also during video shooting? We should expect something like a bokeh effect?
@ScottJWaldron3 жыл бұрын
With the M50 you can change the focal point by touching the screen while it is recording. This doesn't have anything to do with bokeh. Use the M50 in manual video mode and select the widest aperture possible to get the blurriest background. So f/3.5 is better than f/8 in this case. To compensate for the large aperture you will probably need to use a fast shutter speed. In manual video mode on the M50, the aperture and shutter have to be controlled mnaually, but you can set the ISO to automatic.

Haven't heard of that problem. Maybe it's a bug or a "feature" in how they designed it. Put the camera in Zone AF or 1 pt AF. Also, make sure it's checked in one of the info screens (Tab 3, page 4, Shooting info. disp., Screen info. settings)

Thanks for this video. However when I try to move the autofocus point whilst looking through the viewfinder, it doesn’t work? Have I missed something? The little box moves to the left of the screen.
@ScottJWaldron3 жыл бұрын
You need to be in single point autofocus or zone autofocus. Being in the default face detect mode won't work probably. There is a feature called "touch and drag autofocus" where you use the screen while having the camera up to your face. You might have that on and accidentally touching the screen with your face or fingers. To move the focus the button you have to press the lower of the two blue buttons above where you grip the camera. That's a toggle to allow you to use the d-pad to move the focus point around. I'm on a phone so this is as detailed as I can get.

Hello Scott, I have no idea who to ask this question, perhaps you can assist since you seem to know this camera really well. My EOS M50 is stuck on MF mode. The AF/MF button does nothing, I can't find any option to revert to AF in the menu, and the camera simply does not function anymore as it refuses to focus on anything, it won't take photos and videos, and on the left side of the touch screen it's stuck with MF. What could possibly have happened? How can we revert to AF? We tried resetting the settings but it stays like this. Have you ever seen such issue? I would be extremely grateful for your help!
@ScottJWaldron3 жыл бұрын
If you've completely reset the camera there must be something physically wrong with the camera or lens.
@ScottJWaldron3 жыл бұрын
You could try examining the connections on the lens mount and lens itself to see if any of them look dirty or damaged. Use something like a little bit of rubbing alcohol and a q-tip that leaves no residue and dries quickly to clean them off if needed.

You need to be in "Zone AF" or "1 pt AF". See the two buttons on the top right? One has a blue magnifier icon. The other one looks like a little checker board. The lower button is a toggle that allows you to move around the focus box. You press it once to get into that mode, move around the box with the d-pad or touch screen, and press it again to go back to the normal mode.

It has to be in 'L'+tracking AF. Cycling through with the info button should give you one clear output, or you can use manual focus. If that doesn't work you might need to setup a clear screen in the display(tab 3 >> page 4 >> Shooting info disp >> screen info settings to make sure screen 4 is checked) Another issue I've heard about is that the camera will turn off the HDMI output after 30 minutes with no buttons being pressed.

When I use this feature and zoom in trying to take a pic, it goes back to regular normal pic 😢 is there a way I can fix this? Thank you in advance!
@ScottJWaldron2 жыл бұрын
The zoom in feature is mean to be used when doing manual focus or focusing exactly where you want when autofocus is on. It's not actually making a picture that's zoomed in. I was "half pressing" the shutter button so the camera didn't jump out of the zoom-in feature. Fully pressing the shutter take a photo and resets the view. Actual zooming depends on what lens you are using. If the 15-45mm kit lens isn't enough zoom then you need to buy something like the EF-M 55-200mm ( amazon affiliate link: amzn.to/3fCsQXA )

@@ScottJWaldron I’m assuming I can’t take pics while having zoom in as you had it in your video?
@ScottJWaldron2 жыл бұрын
Yes, it does take a photo while zoomed in. But after one photo the view will reset to normal. The shutter button basically has two buttons in it based on how strongly you press it. A half press will focus. A full press will take a photo. If the camera isn't taking photos then there is a problem. If that lens isn't communicating with the camera then it won't take a photo unless you... 1. figure out the problem and fix it like cleaning the contacts on the camera/lens, or figure out if the lens is even compatible. 2. If it's and old lens that doesn't talk with the camera then turn on the setting that allows you to take photos for that situation: community.usa.canon.com/t5/EOS-DSLR-Mirrorless-Cameras/Canon-EOS-M50-wont-take-pictures-with-new-lens/td-p/262529

How to control the Aperture, Shutter speed & ISO using buttons, during using viewfinder?
@ScottJWaldron3 жыл бұрын
I don't have the camera with me at the moment, so here is a general idea. Be in manual mode. On the D pad in one of the directions (I think up) toggles between aperture and shutter speed. The dial near the shutter button changes the value. You can map ISO to a button of your choice such as that top panel custom button. Pressing that will pop up an on-screen (or in the EVF) display for ISO where you use the dial again to adjust.

@@joshuajones9086 They are mostly separate as far as I know, but focus modes are universal. Picture styles are as well. Focus shouldn't be a problem unless you are in manual focus. Picture styles could make a difference in sharpness/color. Other oblivious settings to look at are what resolution and frame rate the video mode is set at (OK/Q button in the live view is the quickest way to access that). There is no way of knowing how you had the camera set up before the reset. Normally I turn down sharpness in the picture style area because the default looks like too much in my opinion.

@@ScottJWaldron yeah I purchased it second hand so idk what that person had the settings as its In great condition and looks good during the day but at night even with good light and low iso the image just looks grainy and soft and low resolution I think I may be something with image quality but image quality doesn't have that big of a impact if a record during the day compared to night. I purchased a dummy battery adapter a while back it makes the camera touch screen a little laggy when you touch it but it had no effect on the camera quality but recently at night it horrible. @@joshuajones9086 Two things, your AC adapter isn't providing power properly to the camera. I have multiple videos about this on my channel about issues and trying to find a good one. There is a search feature on the main channel page. Otherwise I can post links if you want them. While you might think the light is good at night, it might not actually be. When Auto ISO is on the camera will adjust it as needed for the camera to get a good exposure. High iso means more grain and struggling to focus. Though that wouldn't explain if the camera did look good before resetting settings. It's possible your aperture or shutter speed are set manually.
