Canon M50 & M50ii : Best Settings for shooting Video/ Part One

Welcome Back to the channel, and today, it’s the start of a mini-series I’m going to make about video & filmmaking. And the first thing to do, is setting up your camera.
The camera of choice will be the Canon M50, although you can follow this if you have any other canon camera (M50 mark ii, M6 mark ii, …).
Why? Because the #CanonM50 is one of the most popular entry level cameras on the market, perfect for blogging or starting to learn how to make cinematic videos. But out of the box, the camera isn’t ready to shoot proper quality videos.

I just got the M50 Mii, and I’ve been tweaking the settings for the past few days. All of a sudden, every time I record it automatically switches to slow-motion and I have to go back in to switch back to normal speed. Can you tell me how to stop this from happening?

No, just put your camera in NTSC, and you’ll have access to everything ;)

My best guest is that you’re in PAL region. 25 is exactly the same has 24. That extra frame won’t be noticed by the eye. No worries with that ;)

In the standard picture profile do you recommend bringing the sharpness all the way down for KZbin videos?

No if you’re just shooting KZbin videos in standard profile, don’t worry too much about that. Focus on the content you deliver ;)

Digital zoom is only available in 1080p FHD 30&24 FPS. And it’s only available with the canon M50 Mkii.

Hey i have the 16mm for the canon m50,,,,,,, its suppose to be blurry in background,,,,, but when i press record,,,,, everything just becomes clear,,,, not blurry before i press record,,,,, what am i doing wrong? What mode should i have it on?

Plenty of reasons are possible. Make sure your camera is in Manual mode (M) and setup your camera properly. Focus mode should be face detection…

The compression method. IPB is more compressed meaning smaller file sizes but less quality.

Yes. Autofocus works in any case. And there is no time limit since you don’t press the shutter button.

What is a good lense to record a person playing a saxophone?

That’s…pretty vague. It all depends on what you want the final image to be. And what’s the location? What’s the lighting? I’d say a 24mm. On APS-C cameras, it’s a 35mm équivalent. It’s good for kind of portrait shot without being too tight, setting your subject in the environment. And the canon 24mm 2.8 with a regular adapter is super cheap. Or the Viltrox 23mm 1.4 if you want to get more background blur.
