Hi, Merna! While a wireless connection can certainly be convenient, your PIXMA MX490-series printer can also communicate directly with your computer via a standard A-to-B USB cable. Hope this helps!

It wants me to install the ink cartridge before this. I don't want to do so til I know this works and your instructions seem to have missed that step.

Hi! So that your PIXMA MX490 can be ready for anything, it requires all the ink cartridges to be installed before anything else can happen. Once you get the ink cartridges installed and then you follow the steps outlined in the video, we're confident your printer will be ready to go. We hope this helps!

Brand new, 490 The small screen says set inks in properly, will not budge, cannot get a blank screen.

To connect without WPS, Enter your wireless information directly into your PIXMA MX490 by using the "Standard Setup" method: support.usa.canon.com/kb/index?page=content&id=ART117459 You can also use a mobile device to connect. Hi, Salena. Try scanning with the IJ Scan Utility. This is the software your printer comes bundled with for scanning. If there's any difficulty locating the program, let us know the version of Windows or Mac in use and we'll be happy to help!

The printer does not appear in the list, there is no way to install it, totally bricked! Who releases a product like that!

Hi, Tal! This video came out almost five years ago and we've made some small changes to our web site since then. When you visit canon.com/ijsetup and click the "Set Up (Start Here)" button, look under the "First Letters" tab and click "MX." That will take you to the "Product Name" tab where you'll find all of the printers in the PIXMA MX490 series. The North American models are the PIXMA MX490 and the PIXMA MX492, both of which should have the same selection of setup files. Hope this helps!

I connected my printer to my WiFi. but every time I have to print something I have to unplug both printer and router just so it could auto connect again, why can’t I just print something without doing this every single time? I just about had it . this will be the second canon printer I’m going to toss real soon, the first canon printer no problems at all only when we got new WiFi and had to download something just to connect to the new WiFi. 😤😤😤😑Don’t invest in canon printers save the headache! 🤕
