Pretty thorough review, but the reviewer focuses on video features and says very little about still photography. No word at all about shutter lag which is a big deal to those of us who take more than just posed family pictures; no word about the quality of images taken in low light. In some respects, the point is moot since the reviewer dislikes the camera so much, but these are points I as a photographer do care about.

Thanks for your review, I was thinking about buying this thing as a present. Funny thing, many things you consider as a con, I would consider as a pro: Most important: Who needs fast zooming during video? You´re getting dizzy when watching. I think slow zoom is for good purpose. Personally I prefer charging and uploading outside the camera.

You're correct, Canon makes some of the best cameras in the world. However, I had access to this camera from a family member that purchased it so I was like why not, might help someone in a purchase decision.

If you'll be vlogging by having yourself mostly on camera then yes (make sure there's good lighting since this camera isn't that great). If you plan to vlog and record things around you then perhaps get a better quality camera.

Excellent camera for the money. A memory card is not included, but i does not matter. You can purchase it one of those also if you do not already have one.

yeah man at firt i found those issues you mentioned after many tries i discovered that you have to take the photos at F4 that way will get acceptable results

It was explained at 11:05 You have to take the memory card out and plug it into a computer using a memory card reader.

The picture quality is not good, but it's not so horrible. On a 100% crop it will look crappy, for sure, but on a 21" screen looks decent at full screen when using ISO 100, 200 and sometimes 400 too. Low light/High ISO is not a great idea with this kind of cameras. Also you do not need to remove the SD to download the pictures, but you will need to buy a USB cable because it's not included. It's a cheap point and shoot camera, you can't expect much.

It comes with a battery and battery charger, right? On the Best Buy website it says it is powered by AA batteries and it's the exact same. Even though you said this camera is bad, It still looks good for me. Thanks!

Well yes, I own a 550D from Canon, I usually use my Nikon D90 and D60 for photography because i own mostly Nikon glass. The 550D is great at video though.

I have this camera and I'm not sure I want it. Backlit subjects give horrible pictures even in broad daylight and even when flash is already on - the subject is all dark. And when shooting on a cloudy day outdoors, the pictures are still horrible they are somewhat hazy even when the flash is on. Any idea what I might be doing wrong?

I find if I try to point the camera slightly downward, so the backlight is not directly behind the subject, it works better.

No, but you can get the Eye-Fi SD card, those work well and connect to your phone or tablet fairly easily

I agree; picture quality sucks on this camera...like it was upconverted from an 8 or 12MP sensor or something. Setting the ISO down low to 100 or 200 helps in some situations, but usually not. The internal image compression must be done in hardware because CHDK firmware creates "uncompressed" images with the same problem in RAW and DNG formats. It's no wonder this thing was only on the market for about a year in the U.S....about a year longer than it should have been.
