I’ve been a photographer for over 50 years. I’ve had aperture and shutter priority cameras. I’ve used Kodachrome and Fujichrome as well as other type of print film. I say this to let you know I’ve had some experience. Now my comments. This was easily the best video I’ve seen about shooting in manual mode. Or any mode really. Well done you hit all the “side effects” clearly and efficiently.

As a newbie photographer, I've watched several dozen videos explaining these things and had already gotten a good general grasp of the concepts, but I have to say yours is absolutely THE BEST. The way you explained it, the way you demonstrated it, and the graphic you used on the left were all brilliant. This proves why not everyone who masters something is good at teaching it - you definitely have the gift not only for photography but for teaching. Thanks so much! I'm gonna take a print screen of your graphic and print it and keep it with me as a great reminder tool.

Another tip: If you're a beginner and don't want to do full manual all the time (as it can take multiple adjustments and trial and error to get just one good picture) use the shutter, aperture priority modes. Almost all DSLRs and mirrorless cameras have them and it can be a very effective way to get very creative shots. You adjust the aperture/shutter speed, and the camera auto adjusts the rest. Very useful in a pinch.
@latinheart27082 жыл бұрын
This is probably the clearest and easiest explanation i've ever seen on how to shoot pictures in manual mode working with lens aperture, shutter speed and iso. It can take long time to get a sense of how those three things together affect the final picture, but you have managed to set everything quite straight in just ten minutes . Well done!

Unbelievable! I have been making pictures since I was 14. When I finally got a grip on it and how to use the settings the camera broke. Years later I went to school and I relearned everything 'the right way' I could just never get a clear explenation and kept mixing things up. I lost my interest for many years again but never the love. When I went to study again we had photography, and at that point I hated to listen to explenations and my camera had a lot of limitations. So because I got frustrated with digital I went back to film and loved every second of it. But because of my memory problems after a while I forget why I do settings and then forget how to balance them out. So every now and then I go online and look for clear explanations as refreshers but they only seem to make me more confused. And now I found this, I watched it and everything fell right back in to place. No more frustration ever, because I can always watch your video again, thank you so much 💕 no more feeling stupid, hell yeah

You are incredibly calm and highly focused. The way you explain things is very articulate. It reminds me of the time back in school when I used to tutor my classmates. What motivates me is that the class always fills up with students. Almost all of them show up early in the morning before the regular class begins whenever I schedule a tutoring session. I must say, you are a born lecturer. I started my journey in photography during the 9th grade, which was 15 years ago. I used to earn some money by taking pictures, mainly of students at the time. I wasn't driven by photography knowledge but by my skills in manipulating a simple camera. Since then, I've been capturing family moments and even photos of my kids. Just a day ago, I invested in a high-end camera, and now I'm eager to learn all the necessary photography skills. In this quest, I found KZbin to be a valuable resource, and I stumbled upon your videos. Well done, Hyun! You truly deserve all the likes, shares, and comments for the sake of KZbin's algorithm.

This video is a 10/10 for learning. I just got an Olympus EP3 and I’m very new. It seems to me the goal is to keep ISO as low as possible while maintaining the amount of light you want in the picture while balancing how you want the blur. Basically I try to set ISO under 600 if possible and the mess with aperture and shutter speed in any way possible while not losing the feel of what I’m trying to capture.
@palaashbarot5896 Жыл бұрын
Im a newbie too and I guess the hack is to first decide what shutter speed you want (which means, you gotta choose between whether you wanna capture a particular moment, where the shutter speed needs to be high, or whether you want to capture an extended time photo). Once that's set, you select the aperture depending on the object in your focus... And finally you select the ISO such that the photo has the minimum acceptable amount of brightness (or till the bar is 0.0)

Amazing video with simple explanations & live examples. Really loved the after pictures showing the settings used to create that art! Keep up the great work!

Dude!! You. Are. The. MAN! I just bought my first camera, and have been extremely overwhelmed on all of the settings. I have watched hours of KZbin videos before I came across yours. This is by far the best explanation/tutorial I have found.

This was incredible. Exposure triangle was really hard for me to grasp. I love your analogy! 3 sliders that all increase brightness and have their own side effects for brightening the image. That makes it so simple to understand!!!!
