Impressive video! Was wondering if I could set up Cannon motion detection software with the this camera. I need to catch people throwing rubbish in the sea from 500 meters. Ideally leave camera set to movie but will start recording when it detects movement in its screen. Obviously has to be well mounted to minimize vibrations and false triggers. Any ideas?

I haven't tried any motion detection software on this. I've tried that feature by installing Magic Lantern on some canon rebels, but i don't think they make it for this model.

Still the best priced superzoom around, Just get a speedlight for indoor shots. It can get noisy indoors. Cheers :D

MBJ Xperience Depends on where and what you will use it for. A Rode mic for better audio, LED light for better video at night, and a speedlight for better photos.

i did this demo few years ago... now, i would probably recommend getting the nikon p1000. crazier zoom.

@@ArthursSimpleLife Cost! Weight! I'll maybe do what I did for the SX50 and make an extension lead for the cable. Not seen any claim that the P1000 gives better iq.

Let me get this straight: After reading multiple websites stating how most digital cameras can be used as webcams to live capture footage to your laptop (and to stream with), and after I buy a Cannon Powershot, I learn that the HDMI can apparently only connect to a tv, and that the remote shooting app is only for capturing pictures, not video, on your phone? What the hell, cannon?

For that purpose you can easily use an SJ cam. like a gopro but cheaper.
