The name or rather term for a full gripped body, is a camera with an "integrated grip" or an "integrated grip camera!" There is no one word other than flagship, which does not apply to Sony, and is subjective. To some the D850 was the flagship in their own mind, even though Nikon and myself would consider the D6/D5 the true flagship.

After 140K photos taken of my Macaw family using a Canon 1Dx Mark II, I decided to recently rent a Canon R3. The eye tracking autofocus is beyond words, and uses the same battery as the 1 Dx! My only complaint with this amazing camera are the memory card slots. Having 2 CFExpress card slots like the new R1 would have made this camera perfect. I still bought the R3 and become more amazed everyday.

Man watching this, it's crazy how similar Sam's thought process and preferences are when shooting the same things I do (weddings etc). And I am in the market now to upgrade from a 5D3 finally to an R series, almost certainly the R3 as I hit the maximum shutter speed limit often with my 1.4 glass in the daytime and for some reason Canon only increased that on the R3 and not the R5. The extra DR will be extremely nice too and just like Sam, I stopped looking at the technical numbers years ago and underexpose slightly and reclaim the shadows in post. Amazing stuff!

Wait a minute…at around 7:48 or so…if you are not shooting video, the r5 will not overheat. It displays a warning icon that for the c3 video mode and if the internal temps are such that whatever video recording mode is set in c3 will overheat, that’s what the warning is for. But if you are shooting stills when this is happening the r5 is NOT overheating. If you were to suddenly switch to c3 video, then it would overheat. Lots of people get confused about this. With a gripped r5, I once got 11,000+ shots before both batteries got below 50%. The r5 will never overheat in stills mode unless you are in an extreme environment with ambient temperatures that exceed its design limits or something like that.

Thanks guys. It's funny how a rambling talk by people who know what they're doing can answer the technical questions I've been sifting through numbers trying to get. Such as how much can I push ISO in real life w mirrorless and the stats really telling me that R3 seems to break out of a clustered pack in the canon world wrt high ISO. Thanks. I think I've got the courage to pull the trigger now for sports. It looks, in Nov 2023, like they may be about to release another model of this one because the prices have taken a sudden dip.

@@westleyleonstudios I'd imagine some will go back and or are holdouts (Like me). The photo media hammered the brand harder than it deserved, but stuff moves fast and their autofocus is really what got them. Canon didn't have anything decent with mirrorless until 2020. Many working pros don't do a whole sweep of gear every year or two but run with something for 4-6 years. KZbin photographers and media personalities tend to upgrade or switch systems every few years. It will take a few years for Nikon to claw back some marketshare but they have done this before so i don't expect them to go anywhere. Most of Nikons issues lie with their bad marketing and quality control on lower end cameras, not with the tech itsself. It took a few years (and updates) but the Autofocus looks to mostly be resolved.

Im in that frustrating point where I want to upgrade but know Nikon have some pretty cool tech that will be coming to their mid market cameras - I was never sold on the Z6 or Z6II. @@ghas4151 - I got the Canon R3. I love everything about it except there are times that I wish I had a higher resolution. Now, I am debating selling all our Fujifilm and Canon gear to move either to the Nikon Z8 or the Sony A7R V. If I can believe DXOMARK, Sony needs to be my first pick, followed by Nikon. Based upon the DXOMARK data, anyone using a Canon camera over 24MP is not getting full use of the megapixels except for the RF 135 mm f1.8 L IS USM lens.

It's always great to hear other photographers share their opinions and user experiences with a camera. There are certainly some talking points that I don't agree with, but I think Sam should also know that the R5 was not overheating in photo mode, it was giving him the overheat warning to tell him that certain video modes will be limited or locked out. It never locks photo modes out, according to Canon CPS reps. This is a very common misconception because of how Canon decided to implement their overheating warnings in the camera. I've shot over 170,000 frames on my R5 with long race days, weddings, events, etc. and now 30,000+ images on my R3 as well. The R5 never had a problem with overheating over all those long days of shooting, but people see the timer flashing and they lose their mind when the camera is just fine. This was poor implementation from Canon. Sam's work is second to none. Seriously second to none. Everything he shares is always something other wedding photographers would dream of having in their portfolio, yet it's just another day for him...truly a remarkable talent and creative eye.

While mutiple exposures are saved as separate RAW (CR2) on the camera's memory card, combining RAW files into another RAW file would no longer be a true RAW file -- it has been through extensive processing to make the RAW file editable and look like you expect (demosaicing, noise removal, lens correction, etc.). However, I would accept internally combined multi-exposures to be combined and exported to the camera's memory card as a DGN. This is the similar operation for creating Camera HDRs but exported as JPG. Perhaps HEIF would be a more acceptable export format for combining multile exposures.

I had the same experience with ProGrade cards. Literally had 5 bad ones in a row. 4 would just shut down on my Komodo. They would work for about a minute and then give an overheating warning and stop recording. But then there was no issue when I would immediately swap to an Angelbird. Then one of the two SD cards I tried of theirs was just bricked from the jump. Hate their customer service as well. Whole other nightmare in itself there. I don’t get how so many people swear by them. I had never had a single card issue with any brand until trying them.

@@earthlingtheaaron21 I disagree with you that the true comparison is the R3 versus the A1 for wedding photography. Please note I said for wedding photography. The A1 has more capability. But you're not going to use that capability for wedding photography. Also. You can buy every lens you need for wedding photography from Canon right now. To me the R3 wins because the body is the best ergonomic camera design ever. And I think the file size, autofocus, photography capability, and video capability is perfect for events.
@earthlingtheaaron21
@earthlingtheaaron21 2 жыл бұрын
@@Smoothblue90 the only thing the A1 can do the R3 can’t is 50MP files. Which is extremely useful in weddings because the ability to crop in after the fact and to use Apsc mode while shooting and still get ~20 MP files is really nice. With respect to lens selection, Rf mount still doesn’t have a 35 F1.4 or 1.2. It’s 85 F1.2 is $2800. Also they don’t have a 135mm F1.8 which I prefer over a 70-200 any day of the week. The only thing the rf line has that e mount doesn’t is the 28-70 f2 which is legendary. Ergos are a preference at this point. I don’t like vertical grips on my camera hence me having no interest in moving from my R5 to the R3. My A1 is my main because of the primes though.
