Nice one man. I like your point about how important it is for the camera/system not to get in your way when trying to be creative. Sometimes limitations are good, but having the flexibility to shoot how you want is awesome. Also, thanks for the shoutout brother!

I upgraded from the 5D Mark 2 and am so glad I did, especially when paired with the 100-500mm lens. I recently used the camera and lens (at 500mm) to capture a hand-held shot of the Full Moon at night and was impressed with both the detail in the Moon and the sharpness, even when cropped in at 100%

Yeah the IBIS makes it so much easier to get handheld shots. So crazy.

I have an exceptional built in BS detector. It did not go off once during your video. Really appreciated your approach. I just bought the R5 and you made me feel even better about my choice. Thank you!!

Thank you very much Robert! I just try to give my honest thoughts on things so I am glad that came through. I just recently switched to Sony for video purposes but the Canon R5 is an incredibly camera. I really enjoyed using it.

So you have switched back to Sony. Your initial narrative re the R5 said you didn't see yourself switching from the R5??????@@jaredboazphoto

@@robertspaulding2905 I didn’t at the time but life happens! Doesn’t change my opinion of the R5 or canon in general but I moved back to Sony for video and felt like just using one platform. All these cameras are great so it’s hard to miss these days.

I just switched from the a7Riii (which is a great camera) to the R5. In addition to the ergonomics, which I feel are vastly better, I also appreciate the Canon's IBIS and auto focussing prowess. Get review, new subscriber. Thanks.

All solid points and great review. I think what really convinced me to go for it was the fact that it had 95% as good of image quality as my 5DSR, but with the huge benefit of all the video capabilities. Now it's my primary hybrid option for filming videos but with the added safety of knowing that if I need a second body for whatever reason, I won't lose out by using the R5 or the 5DSR. With all the recent announcements in the medium format world, it is incredibly tempting to consider those options. But, the big thing that keeps me with the R5/5DSR duo is the lens lineup. That 100-500 looks awesome. I know the 100-400 ii is probably my favorite.

Hey thanks for watching man, I really appreciate it. First one so I know I missed some stuff but it worked out for my applications. I thought about the medium format thing too but between file sizes and lens selection, just not in the cards for me at this point. And yeah, having the R6 and R5, I have a nice platform for switching lenses and I have an emergency second body if my R5 takes a dump unexpectedly. I have used the 100-500 the most out of any of my lenses but I am excited to give the 70-200 a good shake because I'm always trying to go lighter and simplify stuff.

I'm enjoying my R5 as it's my first foray into full frame since I moved to digital around 16 years ago. Part of the reason that I went with the R5 is that I enjoy attempting to be a wildlife photography, as well as landscape/nature, and I wanted that extra resolution for cropping. I like having the crop mode option, but I don't find myself using it. Ergonomically, it was such an easy transition from my 40D, however this is the first Canon camera I'm using without the battery grip. I miss the grip, but I'm not ready to spend the money when I can shoot without it. I did find that with my standard zoom I can actually balance the grip nicely on my fingertips with more than enough comfort (I do have a wrist strap, so not worried about dropping it). Anyway, great video. Have a great day.

Craig I really appreciate you taking the time to watch and leaving your thoughts! I too have enjoyed it a ton. Like I mentioned above, I have used a few brands but there was a reason I came back to Canon after the R5 was out and reviewed. I have had nothing but great experiences with it and look forward to staying with the R platform for a good long while. Great lens selection, image quality, and so so comfortable.

Nice practical review Jared. At some point specs don't matter as much so it's nice to hear your thoughts on this camera. Canon definitely has ergonomics figured out 👌

@Jared Boaz Photography this was my main reason for not considering switching to Sony although they fixed this issue with the a74. However, I'm still really fond of canons auto focus system for video even with just my little m50. Sony does have good third party lens options though. I'm not switching from Nikon anytime soon but I'm definitely always thinking about how to streamline my workflow in the field.

@@PTPhotography yeah, I was kind of over it at that point myself ha. There are lots of options, I mean any system is pretty solid. I'm all about the right tool for the job rather than brand loyalty as evidenced by me moving around but I think with the tech now, it doesn't really matter as long as its comfortable and not getting in your way.
