Great channel, I wish you more subs soon! I have been shooting landscapes with R6 and recently bought R5 for the amount of customization options - especially for wildlife. Going to Ecuador in June for a bird photography trip, R5 & R6 going with me. I keep using the same back button focus technique. I never knew how advantageous it is to have two bodies. Love the R5 resolution, but miss the low light capabilities of R6. God bless you and your work!

I had a very similar experience with the R6M2. I brought it home with the 24 to 105 4.0, started shooting images around the house. Not quite as high ISO as you were shooting, but I was very happy with the images straight out of camera. I like this camera very much.

I went out today to the lake and shot all four Canon cameras the R5 r62 R7 and R8 and I'm going to throw some side-by-side comparisons up in the next week or two. It definitely is impressive. Photography has some amazing new stuff coming out in the next year or so as well. I got a lot of really neat videos coming out where I want to get in-depth into some of this stuff that's in the near future.

I can honestly say I am LOVING this camera. Apart from Wildlife I shoot weddings here and there in bands just about every other weekend whether it's a small video shoot or just getting them some promotional pictures. And of course it is very low light a lot of times. So my R5 was my main camera to do live music. I took the R6 to out this last weekend and my keeper rate was about 98%!! I am very impressed and then I've been using it daily with wildlife. I shoot something everyday!! Hahaaa

I had the R6 mark 2 last year for about a week until it threw an error 70 code and it stopped working. I promptly returned it back to cannon and spent the extra $1,000 and had them send me a new R5. Coming from my 90D I love lots of megapixels And I also instantly fell in love but there are a number of featuress I do miss dearly on the R6 mkii, I'm finally done getting all my EF Trinity lenses to RF so the r6 mkii will be mine again soon!! Haha! Really cool video man, you seem like real good people.
@photobeast
@photobeast Ай бұрын
It's funny you said that I actually got that same error 70 on my R5 last year. It ended up being the adapter. I wasn't getting proper connection with all the pins. At that point in time I took my electronic screwdriver set and tightened up everything on the front of the R5 as well as the adapter and that's when I found out the adapter wasn't working properly. It was the third party adapter from Neewer. I had one of those the original one from Canon and one from a company called Meike with the ND filter. But yeah I totally understand what you mean, the R6 is feature rich!! I did a few other videos on settings that will make your R5 close to the R6. You can actually shoot portraits and then go to b-roll video and then go to regular 24 frames per second video and then go back to shooting portraits. As well as changing different focusing settings all without taking your eye off the viewfinder. If that helps. I do a lot of wildlife So the faster my camera is set up for me for personalization the more and. better images I get.. You will definitely LOVE the extra pixels when editing with the R5 though.. It's an Amazing camera.

I actually have my R5 set up exactly the same way as you do. I was smiling ear to ear when you were explaining your back button layout. I was a little proud of myself. I also have my video C3 set to 4K120fps so I can just hit the record button while I'm still in photo mode and get nice smooth slow mow. That was also cool how you mentioned the 90D. My wife loves it and won't let me sell it, It's currently paired with my last EF L-Series lens the 16-35 mkii. It is an impressive camera but it's got that stupid mirror in it! Haha

You can triple back button focus the r6mii. Sometimes I actually prefer that setup to the standard focus setup. It doesn't always like to hit the right target in groups of people.

I went to the lake today with my wife, and the R7 was the only camera out of the R5, R6 Mark II, R7, and R8 that underperformed. The only good thing about the R7 is when I had the 800 mm on it, I actually got some decent shots from far away. But the R5 stole the show today. R6 Mark II was not far behind on image quality but outperformed the R5 in autofocus as far as speed when it came to finding and locking on the subjects. The lake I went to had probably close to 1000 birds flying around. So it was really neat to see all of them in action at the same time. When I got home and uploaded all the images, the R7 had so many out of focus images compared to every other camera. I have tried just about every configuration in the settings as well.

Nice. I think part of the focus problem is sensor readout speed. The R5 sensor reads 2x faster than the R7. 15 VS 30ms.

Better ( in my opinion) than the r5 ( which is very good). I shoot a lot of sports and the r6 mk2 is my primary camera for action.

I have the R6 ii. Best camera I’ve ever had, the image quality is just beautiful. I do mostly stills, very little video. I shoot 99% wildlife with the RF 100-500. I don’t know what Canon do but the image quality in the eyes just blows me away every time. The clarity, sharpness and brightness in the animals eyes is superb. Going onto ISO, if you haven’t seen this ISO chart before go take a look on Google at ‘read noise in DN versus ISO settings’ once you’re on that page you will see a list of cameras on the right side. There’s loads of cameras listed. Click on your own camera and it will show you a noise graph. It shows in the R6 ii that the difference between ISO 400 and ISO 1000 is virtually nothing. So in other words you can increase your shutter speed and take crisper sharper shots with the increased shutter speed but your eye just won’t see any difference in ISO if you were using ISO 400.
@YeaNaYea
@YeaNaYea 6 күн бұрын
I heard the r6 ii has pretty good noise control even at isos above 6400. Since I've started out, I had just a simple x100v but now looking into getting a proper body. After realising I shoot mainly in low light a lot (events/night) I reckon I will pick this one up. The fuji is great but even that struggles around iso 6400 on noise, plus the low light aint as great. Its been my go getter for street and small events during the day.

Is it because of Sigma glass with the R7? I have run across yt videos talking about how you have to firmware update the sigma lenses to be fully compatible with the R7.
@photobeast
@photobeast 3 ай бұрын
No, I did try the Sigma out on the R7 after I put it on the R5 and had really good results on that camera. I had to adjust some settings over the course of a week to get it to work without crazy focus breathing, of course. But I used the EF100-400, RF800 f11, RF100-400, and the RF 100-500MM.. ALL with very similar issues. It seems that when you lock on a subject and take multiple shots. You get a few of the subjects a few behind the subject and then a few in front of the subject. The issue is that it focuses off the focal plane. With the Sigma Contemporary 150-600mm, you do get random focus breathing here and there. But that's to be expected. The R7 has an issue that has been verified from Canon themselves. They never fixed it or offered a resolution, just going to repackage it as the Mark 2 and then we'll have to purchase another one.

My favorite thing to do is shoot at night, i want that R8 for the R6IIs lowlight performance and and colors, i have a T7 so im already used to not having IBIS lol but IMO the images may not be as sharp as your R5 but i think they will be much better than my dslr with its digic 4+ processor even though i use L glass, i will probably keep the dslr for panning shots for the race track though since the R8 has only an electronic first curtain shutter, but at the current price the R8 is reachable for me with the pay every two week option, i wish i could say the same for the R611 so i could have the IBIS, you said the R7 don't esnt have IBIS though and i believe it does, i just haven't heard much more than bad things about it's overall performance which is why i want the R8 instead

I agree. Try to keep an eye on the used market as well as refurbs on places like Amazon. I actually got my R6II for $1200. A client of mine owns 5 Amazon resale stores. I've done a few commercials for him so when he gets items in, he calls me first. Then gives me the BEST deal possible. That's something to try as well. You can hit up local restaurants or small stores and shoot like a 15-second b-roll commercial and then in my case I use AI to write a script that's relevant to their scenario... Then you get perks as you'll make friends!!

I bought the R7 for Dog's in action... The hitrate was 4-8 out of 15 with the RF 70-200 f.4. Not the best hitrate.... And I won't recommend it for action. But for portraits and Studio its a beast and the hitrate is up over 95%. Most of my work is city and landscape and most admit it's a wonderful camera for that kind of photography. Selling big prints the only option next is the R5. I can't go down in megapixels with the R6 II. Wish you all the best with your channel.

I went to shoot birds in flight today as the American White Pelicans were at a Dam about an hour away. I wanted to shoot all 4 cameras back to back for the first time. The R5, R6II, R7, and R8. I always shoot one or two a trip. After 8 hours and thousands of shots later, it's still the same conclusion with the R7. The hitrate was terrible, and the other cameras ALL did very well!! I really feel Canon should step up and resolve this.

Bought the r7 just to get into the system. At first was very disappointed with it. Low hit rate and noisy files. But after a lot of research I found that by shooting C raw, with first curtain shutter and limiting to 15 fps my hit rate went up a lot. Evidently AF can’t keep up with high frame rates. I also use single point when the background is busy which throws off the eye auto focus. One would think these issues shouldn’t have existed on a modern camera. Let’s hope the mk2 version solves these problems.

What firmware version did you have on the R7? There is a firmware update which Canon claims addresses focusing issues.
@photobeast
@photobeast 3 ай бұрын
I tried the new firmware. It's only during burst shots. Also, using the Canon Connect app does the firmware updates for you through the app now. It's the coolest thing. Also, when you transfer your raw files to your phone, it denoises the image when it converts to a JPEG as well as adds beautiful color!! But I'll check what version. 💯percent sure it's the newest. I use the cameras daily with the app.
@tytso
@tytso 3 ай бұрын
@@photobeast So what you're saying is the front- and back- focusing that you were seeing was not with burst shots, and is still happening on the latest firmware? OK, good to know. The Canon Connect app works really well when it only needs bluetooth connection with my phone (a Pixel 8 Pro), but it is super-duper flaky when it needs to use a WiFi connection (for example, when updating the firmware or downloading photos to the phone). The WiFi connection is slow (much faster to download by ejecting the card and using even a UHS-i reader), and the Canon Connect firmware update only seems to update the camera firmware, and does not update the Lens firmware. (BTW, if there were some Lens firmware updates that improves the lens IS interop with the camera's IBIS for those older RF lenses that were released before the R5/R6 when IBIS was introduced for RF cameras, such as the RF 24-105 f/4.) So these days I just drop the firmware on the SD card; it's faster and works with lens firmware updates.
@tytso
@tytso 2 ай бұрын
@@photobeast So if the focus issues are only happening during burst shots, I just recently came across this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nqTQimecZq9jqpo by Duade Paton. Apparently there seems to be an inherent limitation with the R7 body when shooting at high burst rates using electronic shutter in low-contrast/low-light conditions; this has been confirmed by Canon. Duade''s theory is that it's related to the slower readout rate of the R7 sensor as compared to the R5 sensor. Using Electronic First Curtain Shutter (EFCS) at 6.5 fps works even in low-contrast situations; EFCS at 15 fps with good light is fine. However if you have a flighty subject, using electronic shutter at 15 fps (but not 30 fps) in good light seems to be OK. But in low-light conditions, electronic shutter even at 15 fps is going to have a lower hit rate. Other workarounds include using one-shot mode if the subject isn't moving. This issue seems to happen only in (a) electronic shutter, (b) low-contrast/low-light, and (c) with AF in tracking mode.

I’ve had a R6 ii for 8 months. The relationship is love/hate. I use adapted EF glass. The ef 70-200 ii is perfect on it. The ef 100-400 ii seems erratic. When it’s sharp it’s amazing, but it seems only about 60% of the images are critically sharp. It’s behaving as if it’s a R7… driving me nuts. 😒 I’ve tried everything, watched hours of videos.
@photobeast
@photobeast 3 ай бұрын
I had that lens and just sold it about 3 weeks ago. I didn't have a chance to use it on the R62. But I did have similar issues with THE Sigma 150-600. On my R5 I had nothing but breathing issues so I use a custom one when I do my portrait lenses slower shutter speeds things like that. I use custom 2 for wildlife where everything is a bit faster, I'll use manual with auto iso. I also will go into my autofocus numbers and play around because I've noticed sometimes certain lenses act differently like you were saying. The only thing I can think of is try to change some of the sticky settings in your autofocus. So it sticks to the subject a little better. And leave it in a custom mode so when you use that lens you can just throw it over to that mode and be ready to roll. Me personally I do weddings and live music on the weekends. So I have my C1 setup for that and then I have C2 set up exclusively for wildlife. With everything pretty much flip flopped. You'll get it!! Just a little trial and error!!

@photobeast

Technically, it wasn't that Canon couldn't help, it it was that they were backed up for about 5 months before I would have gotten it returned. I could not go that long without that camera. It was my main body and actually only body at the time. I had sold my backup body to get my wife a new camera just a few weeks earlier. So, I had it set aside. I found it ridiculous that a piece of 1 inch plastic costs so much. I ordered the part and researched the where the screws were located and went to work. It was really easy too. I made a video to hopefully help someone with the same issues. And it has. I got alot of great responses. 👍. Have a good one my friend
