Yeah. It’s a very capable camera. I’m sure the r5 is wonderful but the hype doesn’t always equal the reality when it comes to new new new gadgets.

I cannot understand the logic behind making a smaller body, then make a giant bazooka lens to put on the front. I really think (wish) canon would take advantage of the compact nature of mirrorless and make a series of compact, weather sealed L lenses. I think they would dominate Fuji and Sony if they did that.

I didn't communicate well. The R6 is directly below the R5, you are correct! The R is the first one in the lineup that came out that is what I meant by saying the original R.

I prefer the look of mark 4 and Ef lens more. To my opinion it smokes r5. But I get a convenience of R5 auto focus, exposure preview.

6k vs 3k~ for like a 15% quality increase, not worth it lol. As far as the specs, yeah that’s worth it - but only if you’re coming from a lowered spec’d camera.

R6 is the next under r5 at about the same price as the mk4. Which is what my next camera will be. Rented it with the rf 50 and is amazing!

I actually have the RP and love it. The rf lenses not so much. The apertures on the stm suck especially the prime. They have so much shadowing especially in lot of light outdoor situations I was ripping mad at how awful they performed. Example I was at the zoo with the rf 50mm 1.8 and the 85mm f/2 and it performed so horribly I was swearing and so angry I said F*** this and stuck my 70-300 on to finish the rest of the photoshoot. After that I compared my ef 50 and 85 to the rf 50 and 85 and there's less shadows and much more details and sharper images on the ef compared to the lousy rf lens series. Get a 199 dollar adapter with the R5 and EF lenses that's the best I can suggest it'll be worth it. The rf lens oversaturate the colors of the photos to compensate the poor sharpness and poor light being taken in from their prime lens

Omg I thought it was just me who noticed that from the Instagramers I follow who use the rf primes! And then the other guy who has the r5 and uses an ef 35 prime, his photos look so much better!!! I have Sony so either way I’m gonna be blowing a lot of money if I add in canon but I’d rather get an ef and adapter with the r5 if I do lol save money and less fakey looking photos

@@rachel7550 stick with sony their cameras are so much better and blow Canon clear out if the water. Canon is trying to charge a huge premium price gouging technology that Sony has had for the last 5 years with the a7rIII by charging double what it's actually worth

I’ll never give up my Sony though 🙏🏽espec how light weight and easy to carry it is vs the r5 is like a fricken bowling ball with my 50 f1.2

New viewer, really like your videos so far. About the upgraded size of the RF lenses, a lot of the size difference has to do with upgraded (faster and more accurate) focusing motors, as well as more internal lenses within the lens. 50mm is my favorite focal length and the new RF is superior to any other 50 I’ve used so far.

The mirrorless blows the dslr out of the water. There's no comparison between the two. The mirrorless are well worth the money. I came from a T7 and when I got my RP I couldn't believe the vast difference between the two. It was like night and day.

@lil_Grogu89 Abuelo no but the mark iv can be compared to the eos R mirrorless since it's specs are practically the same almost and I've used both the mark iv is old obsolete clunky the R has better autofocus easier to use and manage better in everyway compared to the mark iv for ergonomics and autofocus capabilities

The biggest difference is eye detect, skin tones, and slightly sharper. Bigger picture is megapixels which isn't shown off.

I really appreciate the side by side comparisons with same settings, so few reviews do this. I have the 5DMIV but am interested in the autofocus and tracking/focus points for wildlife and birds. My understanding is the R5 is superior. Can you comment to this specifically?

I have a canon r6 and currently having a hard time on which lens to pick up. I currently have the RF 35mm 1.8 and RF50mm 1.8 but I want to upgrade to a L lens. I am not sure if I should get the RF 50mm 1.2 , 85 mm RF 1.2 or 24- 70 mm F2 .

Honestly you're not going to see much difference between the prime kit lenses and the L prime lenses. But what you will see will be a huge dent in your wallet. The real difference will be when you switch bodies and even go from a canon to sony. I been shooting for 2 years with different brands different lenses different bodies. The bodies make the difference the lenses barely but not as much as these influencers would have you believe. I got the rf 50mm 1.8 the rf 35mm 1.8 the rf 85mm 2.0 and they all work fine. The only bad rf lens I've encountered was the rf 100-400. I've worked with prime L lenses and there was barely any difference at all

Jess with your green shot photos the mark iv lens did a much better job than the rf lens. There was way to much darkness and shadowing with the rf lens. The best combo you can do is the r5 body with the ef lens with an adapter mount

I thought this. I preferred all of the canon mark iv photos over the r5 as they seemed nicely exposed and softer. Do you think using my old lenses with an adapter would more likely achieve this ?

@@derryboorman3004 yes possibly. If you have any ef L prime lenses use the adapter and don't waste the money on the overpriced rf L series prime lenses. The kit prime lenses non L work just as good and are on par with the rf L prime for a significant less amount. But personally last month I was at the choice do I buy an extremely overpriced R5 with technology that Sony had since 2017 or do I buy the Sony a7r III for half the price of the Canon r5. When I went with the Sony a7rIII it was incredible how smart the autofocus was compared to anything Canon put out on the market. My canons were the rp and the R and when I used the Sony a7r3 my jaw dropped by how intelligent the autofocus was it blew the smoke out of any Canon garbage they put out. I was using the g master 100-400 from Sony. There's definitely a learning curve switching from one ecosystem to another but it's worth it. I haven't tested the R5 but compared to the R the Sony a7rIII had way more detail then the Canon eos R and it had way better colors. The colors on the canon ef adapter zoom lens with the eos r that I been using was dull compared to sonys color system. It blew the smoke out of Canon ef 70-300 with adapter

@@derryboorman3004 the details in the R5 compared to the 5d mark 4 is due to the higher megapixel count but for me coming from the Canon eos R to the Sony a7rIII was a huge jump my jaw dropped when I edited the photos especially for half the price of the R5

@Derry Boorman i had the dishonorable displeasure to work with the R5 and it was an absolute nightmare. Kept overheating when taking photos (no video at all) kept getting black screens kept getting battery error messages err70 kept having to turn the thing off and on and even had memory card problems despite it being the exact same memory card i used in my R and RP for years now. The photo quality was abysmal and no better then my eos R same color scheme only more megapixels. The autofocus was the biggest nightmare of all. How in the hell it missed giant sized giraffes and kept focusing on a brick wall or on security cameras is beyond my wildest comprehension. And how in the hell it missed a 2000lb elephant to focus on a pole is absolutely mind blowing and mind numbing to think about

Love my R6. Sure I'd LOVE the R5 but I don't need the mpx. The EF lenses work amazingly with the adapter on the R series. And the R is not a step below the R, the R6 is. And the tech is there--the dual pixel 2 or whatever it is focusing system is on point. I'm glad I didn't go for the R and jumped to the R6. It's my baby!!

I’ve had my 5D Mark IV since release day. Just a hobby photographer and I’m thinking of getting the R5 simply because of its sharp focus. Would it be worth it? I just calibrated my Sigma 50mm ART lens and that made so much difference. So much sharper now on the 5D4 but still not 100% consistent.

Yes, it would be worth it to get the R5. You can also adapt your EF lenses onto the R5 with no loss in image quality.
