Thanks Brandon - this makes it all worthwhile! =D Got a big smile on my face reading your post. Sorry the quality on KZbin is only 360p right now, KZbin is taking its time processing the file! Ad

I've had my R5 C for about 6 months now. I understand the 2 base ISO options. But this is honestly the first videos that REALLYYYY explains it well. Especially showing the 160 iso having clean shadows, but you lose sooo much dynamic range. This video really explained the difference between noise and dynamic range. Sometimes you cant have perfect amount of both. Great video!!! Its just situational

Really glad it was helpful =) I appreciate your comment and feedback so much! I'd recommend checking out Josh Sattin's video on exposing C Log 3 on this camera to get even better footage. I'll be doing a video on this hopefully soon - I keep saying that but dad duties are keeping me busy in my free time!

Great video! I'm not even a Canon shooter but I appreciate the effort and info that goes into your content... You definitely should have way more subscribers, so keep the vids coming--you got one more Sub from me!

Hey Brian, thank you so much for the comment - I really needed to hear that today. I've been putting a lot of effort into the videos recently, and it's been really hit and miss with numbers of views on KZbin, which has been a bit demoralising. Your comment has reminded me why it's worth doing this, so I really, REALLY do appreciate it. It's great to have you here and thanks for the sub =) I'll do my best to repay the gesture with more great content! Is there anything in particular you'd be interested in on the channel?

@@NaikMedia you're so welcome! I know the grind, and I trust you to keep doing what inspires you... Obviously the trick is finding where that creative spark matches something either clickable or searchable whilst being engaging... and then converting that to a subscriber! Thank you! I have been deep in the rabbit hole looking for this answer. XF-AVC vs HEVC. I am mostly filming surfing in ideal light conditions 4k 120fps slow motion. I cannot see any difference in the image quality. I'll stick with HEVC because it is easier to preview the videos.
@NaikMedia10 ай бұрын
Hey! Glad it’s been helpful :) HEVC causes less issues for me with management (smaller and as you said, easier to preview). For the times you don’t need 120fps, you can always write raw to the CF Express and HEVC to the SD card. That way if there ever was an issue with colour or exposure you have a backup - and with Angelbirds 1TB CFexpressB costing the same as an SD card, this is my new setup. Enjoy shooting surfing!

did you use Raw ST or LT? i saw a video where i could see more highlight detail in the ST version of this camara

I believe I used raw HQ, but ProAV did a video that showed very little difference between the three modes.

Great video 🙌🏼 will the image be sharper if I go at a lower iso than 800? Or does it only affect the black areas. Filming fitness shows that are kinda well lit on stages, would it be best to lower the iso to like 3-400 to get some sharper image on the person on stage, or is it still best to espouse at 800 iso for the base?
@NaikMedia Жыл бұрын
ThNks RPK! Much appreciated :) That is an interest question. I guess that there may a perceived increase in sharpness from the increased contrast due to decreased dynamic range. For max sharpness I’d recommend base iso (800 or 3200) and expose to the right, bring down in post for best noise performance. Having less noise will give best sharpness, but you might still get noise even below 800 iso if there is any hint of underexposure. I hope this helps! Ad
@KarlevidProductions Жыл бұрын
@@NaikMedia So even if the location I’m filming is very well lit up, keeping a 800 iso is recommended? 800 iso and then ND down for it to be perfectly exposed
@NaikMedia Жыл бұрын
That’s what I would do :) colour rendition and dynamic range will be optimised at the base isos, so make sure you’re 800 @ base 800, or 3200 @ base 3200. If environment is dark, definitely go for the latter. I only have one issue with shooting in RAW. If you want to keep the noise out in the shadows, you will need to overexpose by a lot (+3 or 4 EV). That's the point where AF tracking will stop working properly. So as much as I like to get the most "clean" data from the sensor, that being without noise, it's a tough one when I need to rely on the AF and it starts seeking focus in the middle of the shot.
@NaikMedia Жыл бұрын
Thanks for sharing! Shooting in raw will always amplify noise levels. This is the case with every camera. It’s intended that you process the raw footage with NR software, as it’s completely off in the camera. If you don’t want to do that, then shooting XF-AVC will give you a cleaner image without too much sacrifice. Noise is the price of raw footage unfortunately; with any camera.
@WildHorseProductions Жыл бұрын
Wow I always thought the HEVC and XF-AVC would be similar. But it looks the XF-AVC has more DR
@NaikMedia Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment WHP :) you know, I wouldn’t say it has more DR than HEVC, but there’s definitely a slight difference in colour rendition. I think the XF-AVC looks flatter as the HEVC appears brighter at the same exposure. Warrants more investigation! Ad

@@NaikMedia ohhh gotcha. Watched the later bits where you said it's about the same DR! Hmm still love 265. MP4 as it's just smaller. Thanks again for spending time researching these
