A lot of effort went into this video Pascal. Thank you. I am one of those stranger people that use two systems, Canon and Sony, because each has their strengths. But I do think its a mistake that Canon are restricting third party lenses, its a bit short sighted of them and will stop people switching to Canon mirrorless - because of the limited lens choice as you say.

The dynamic range of the X-H2S and its sensor, makes it the best camera here. The noise you get helps keep more details both ways even after KZbin compresses the heck out of it. All other cameras looked to black in the shadows and too high key on highlights.

@@pascalbasel this is a hobby for for both stills and video and overall i feel very comfortable using the Canons. Everything makes sense to me and my memory. It feels better in the hands and with limited RF lenses I can still cover 95% of my needs. One thing that drove me crazzy with Sony was that the C custom modes would remember the last setting that was changed even after power down/up. You would need to rotate the dial from lets say C1 to C2 and back to C1 to truly go back to what C1 was set for. Because I mostly use custom modes and different cameras i would always rotate the C dial after power up.

I mean both of them get blown out by Sony a7siii and Sony A1. R5 rolling shutters is terrible plus only Sony a7iv high end camera suffers from that. tried the R5 and orignal r6 and got back immediately to a7siii and A1. main reason was colors and image quality. Video quality on a7siii is like literally top gun maverick Sony Venice. You need edit lot more to come close to Sony Venice.

I think a good stabilization test is not just wide angles as those are typically easy to stabilize if you aren’t going soemthing as wide as like 16-24 but really stabilization gets put the test at longer focal lengths. When you get past 70 and go to like 200 it’s good to see how it performs in not just standing still but also tracking a subject. I found that fujifilm did terrible if it was anything past 300mm compared to other cameras like the R5 and R6 but it did better than the A7IV. Just soemthing to try next time you review a camera for this type of thing.

I know you have the knowledge to understand this I’m about to say, so please forgive me. This is not intended to undermine this video in any way or form. Why people care about rolling shutter? Who tracks that fast anyway, and with a camera not made by that type of performance??? Sometimes KZbin channels made the most absurd “tests”. It is that hard to be realistic and call it like it is? A mirrorless camera is not made to make movies or professional video productions, you could record few outstanding clips, and movies have been made, but the work and the problems encountered are never mentioned! Guys always remember to support your sensor. Anyway, I enjoyed your video, blessings to you young man.

Thanks for clarifying in the beginning. It’s easy to get comments wrong. I actually sold the ZV-E10 last year after only 3 weeks because the rolling shutter looked bad at every so small camera move. I also remember back in the days when I shot Panasonic, that I never liked the footage from other people shooting Sony etc. mainly because of the rolling shutter (back then I didn’t even know the word rolling shutter but I noticed it. It’s true that in most shots it’s not visible on the a7iv but it is important to know. That’s also why I say at the end that the differences are minor. No camera really stands outs in either positive or negative way.

To be fair EF lenses adapt perfectly to the RF mount. So from that perspective. Canon has a ton of lenses to choose from. While not the same as newer modern lenses I also have found in the past 3rd party lenses to be a bit hit or miss in terms of quality control and electronic control. For those that want to get the most out of the AF and stabilization it is sometimes better to avoid 3rd party lenses. Especially in video applications where both need to be continuous and consistent.

Great video! @Sophie LANTERI Photo and video dynamic range is different. They are not directly comparable. Video dynamic range involves using of log curves so those play a part as well. X-H2S: Total detected 14.6 stops, 11.8 (SNR2) -> Denoise in post 14.3 R5C: Total detected 13.4 stops, 12.2 (SNR2) R6ii: Total detected is ONLY 12.2 stops. 11.1 (SNR2) So no matter what you do, even with perfect lighting/denoising, the Canon will still perform worse than the X-H2S or A7iv by 2 stops. Also if you're quoting photons to photos, do take note that Canon values are all measured with Noise Reduction ON (look for the triangle pointing down - which means the true dynamic range is much lower). I haven't tried the R6ii or R5, but if you can't turn off NR that's a dealbreaker. Seems like Canon only allows low-medium-high?
@professionalpotato4764
@professionalpotato4764 Жыл бұрын
@Sophie LANTERI You can check Gerald Undone or CineD. They usually do DR tests with Imatest Xyla21 charts. Just take note that their results cannot be directly compared against each other as there might be slight user error in their tests methods. But it's good to compare and see how accurate things are. FX30 is quite good, it's roughly 11.4 stops of DR, with some noise reduction it probably goes up to 12+.

The R5 and R6 II sensors have more dynamic range than the Sony or Fuji (shown when shooting Raw photos). But the limiting factor is Clog3 vs the logs on Sony and Fuji. If Canon would include Clog2 then it would be a different story. For me the full frame look and lower noise far outweighs the crop on the Fuji. I just can't get the same look because of the lack of DOF and higher noise on the Fuji... it also has some sort of really oversharpened look to the files that is more like old "video" than film.. The crops on the Fuji and Sony were basically deal breakers The sensor readout of the R6 II is the fastest of any non stacked sensor out there with the R5 being very close. The Sony BSI sensors are terrible for this and it has nothing to do with the 33MP because the R5 is 45 MP and is WAY faster than the A7IV or A7RV. I got the R6 II with Sigma Art lenses and it's soooo good. Unlike Sony and Nikon, Canon adapted lenses work as well as native lenses. My Sigma Art 50 1.4 is smaller and lighter than the RF 50 1.2, even with the adapter, and it focuses FASTER than the Canon, and is 99% as sharp. And it costs 1/3 of the price. As for overheating, were you testing 4K60 because the R6 II does not overheat in 4K24/30 (as stated not only by Canon but also in tests). I can run it for 2++ hours until the battery dies and never get a single overheating signal (again, not supposed to with the R6 II in 4K24/30, only 4K60 and that takes about 1 hour and has super fast cool off time).

Video and photo dynamic range operate differently. One thing though, is that the R6ii and R5(C) both have less dynamic range than the Fuji XH2S (according to Gerald Undone's tests). The R5C scores higher when shooting RAW but for regular internal recording it seems to do worse? The X-H2S has almost 2 stops more DR than the R5C. And this is backed up by cammackey's video too kzbin.info/www/bejne/rmSQg32NhtCUi7s Fuji XH2S has the sharpening toned down a lot compared to the previous generation. Sony well, it's a Sony. It's always going to be oversharpened. Fuji has no crop at all in 4k60 too. Or do you shoot a lot of 4k120? The Sony 4k60 crop is a dealbreaker, agreed. These video imo showcases what real talented colour grading on Fuji is like kzbin.info/www/bejne/p5XcpXqOiLCJotU kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z6fRY4KFidB4gbc None of the cheap purchased lutpack look. They don't look oversharpened at all. It's all about the lens and grading. Is the full frame look really advantageous? I find that for video it gets too distracting when the background is blasted into oblivion with fast lenses. I've seen a few local dramas where some talking head shots were done probably at 135mm f/1.8 or 85mm f/1.2 wide open and I don't know why they bothered set dressing or renting locations when it could have been green screened in a small studio. All the new high end cameras are S35. RED's new sensor is S35. ARRI's new sensor is also S35. Having to stop down for more DOF requires more powerful lights too. Doesn't seem too useful to me... Even when I was using the A7S2 with a 24-70GM I was mostly shooting f/4 or f/5.6. I like full frame for stills, but for video I find the lack of DOF is really annoying for storytelling. As for sensor readout, BSI has nothing to do with readout speed iirc. BSI is simply the superior method of making a sensor that increases dynamic range with better light gathering. Sensor readout speed is based on the underlying circuity and architecture. Idk why but Photons To Photos only show R5 results with noise reduction baked in. But if that can be disabled, it likely won't be much different than the A7R5. Is NR permanently enabled on Canon?

How well do the EF lenses work on the R6ii? We homeschool our 6 children and I'm still trying to decide on the best overall system as a few of them are ready to move out of Bridge cameras. If Sony had a better ASPC I might look in that direction. Fuji is certainly attractive due to the myriad of bodies and form-factor, but lenses hold me back. Most canon users are upgrading and are not going to ignore their EF lens for a RF lens even if third parties make them. Unless they don't have that focal length and there is a need to buy it. It's a disadvantage for those switching to canon.

Are Canon cheaper RF lenses good enough? I’m talking about the 24, 35, and 50 1.8. From my understanding these lenses are cheaply made and image quality are not really good. It’s a bummer since they can at least make them weather sealed and improve the image quality a little bit. I think people wouldn’t mind pay a little extra for the improvements.
@pascalbasel
@pascalbasel Жыл бұрын
I got the 50mm 1.8 but only to make thumbnails etc. The af is super slow, not good for video. But image quality is good enough for social media. I hope they bring some affordable 1.4 primes soon with a bit higher quality.

I know I'm a bit late to comment but: the RF 35mm f/1.8 is an excellent lens. It's sharp, AF works well and it has image stabilisation which helps the handheld shots by a lot. In my previous company, it was the main lens we used for videography.

Fuji is a joke sorry. I'm selling my H2 & H2s after a yead and half. Every month new firmware to completely destroy the autofocus. For video, Fuji objectively is the worst though. No video lens ecosystem, brutal focus breathing and most important, AF not being linear at all, jumping meters back and forward. Unless you're using MF which you would rarely do today, unusable. Sure, H2s has probably the best rolling shutter in the world. But for me, camera telling me it is focusing somewhere while is not is quite a big issue.

Thing is, Sony photos are simply flattened out on a 2D plane. Once you see this you may find Sony “inadequate” for photos. Canon and Nikon has the most 3D picture. It’s not colors, it’s in the RAW files as well. Imho the small diameter of the E mount, lens design, choices made on solid state physics level on the sensor could be responsible. For price/performance ratio I’d gladly buy Sony, but simply don’t like it’s photos at all.

@BalaKrishna-bq5iz

Should probably be the other way. XH2s is a way better camera overall. Much better dynamic range (not slight like Pascal claimed here, at least a stop and half better), less rolling shutter and high fps because of stacked sensor, all intra codecs and internal prores, opengate 3:2 6k mode. Image quality wise it stacks up well against cinema cameras minus the ports. It is unfair for R6 to be even compared to XH2s. For context, I am a narrative filmmaker and own FX3 and RED Komodo. Previously owned a Canon C70. And after testing XH2s from a friend, I'm ordering one for myself. Pascal's R6 footage looks crushed, I donno what he means by "I have never been in a situation where I needed more dynamic range than that". Our phones today can get more dynamic range with hdr processing than R6 can. Even R5 and R5C aren't good in that aspect. C70 is the way to go if one cant switch systems from Canon.
