Thanks for Comparing the two Derek. Your wildlife footage helped me decide on buying my XF400, and thats what Ive used for my last few videos of wildlife.

Excellent! (My vote will always be on a camcorder). Can't wait for Queensland! If you hit Mowbray National Park, there's even the possibility of a Lumholtz Tree Kangaroo! 😱🤯. But most importantly, enjoy yourself! Hopefully it'll be peaceful and beautiful. As always, thanks for the inspiration!

Our choice is a camcorder too - much better than a mirrorless for capturing sailing adventures and wildlife interactions.

Hi Derek, I have also had both Systems. The think I loved about the dedicated XF400 camcorder was being about to smoothly zoom with the rocker while panning, but saying that the Zoom rocker was in completely the wrong place for my finger to fall naturally to. I ended up selling the XF400 and buying a Sony Pro Camcorder which felt much better to operate. I then purchased the Canon R6 and loved the versatility of being able to shoot stills and video on the same body. I this replaced my 1DX and Sony Camcorder. The R6 is the best all rounder. Take care Derek.

I am quite interested in what your thoughts about eh XA 40 and 50 are because they seem to be a better choice for you, other than maybe not being quite as high end as your looking for, In particular the XA40 has x20 Zoom in 4k and even more in Regular HD, but lacks the remote control function and filters

Hi W A If I was going to buy a new camcorder I would go up in image quality not down like the XF 605 but at the minute I am happy with the XF400. Thank you very much for your comments much appreciated Cheers Derek

@@DerekHilton Is the XF605 camera quality worse than the XF400? It should be the other way around, logically. I'm also looking for a GX10 in 2023. It's crazy? Shouldn't I buy something else? I want a camera that shoots 4k up to 50p. Thanks for the response.

I knew it was going to be the XF400. Much better to have a designated video camera. I enjoyed my time up in Port Douglas. I hope you will too. I went on a cruise along the Daintree River and it was fantastic for birds and wildlife.

Hi Pauline Thanks I will . Theirs a few hikes that I didn't get to go on last time so they will be first on the list . The Bump track. Spring creek falls walking track is not on the tourist list so there won't be many people there and its not so easy to find . Thank you so much for your comments much appreciated . Cheers Derek

After the DVX200 I can definitely see the benefits of a camcorder with a decent built-in lens, long battery life and many other little features (you'd have to pay extra on a DSLR or other camera's). And these things are super reliable! While the sensor of the XF400 would be a bit too small for me, it definitely seems to have advantages. I recently bought the R6 too, but mainly for photography. Definitely would not have bought it just for video (although I do like the video quality).

Hi Derek, thanks for the comment on stabilisation. I wonder if the R6 is better with an RF lens? I've got a bit shaky and this is of particular interest to me. And no, you're not talking shit! BobUK.

Hi Robert It seems that there is no differences between my EF 70-300 lens and the RF lens with Stabilization . Cheers Derek

Derek I'm just starting out but passionate about filming nature and wildlife in my local area, so far on a phone (heathen). I'm wanting to get in to better equipment and watching several of your videos steers me towards a camcorder. I've got a limit of about $1500 which has me down the bottom end of the market. My main priorities are warmth and softness in the image. I also shoot ocean and beach scenes and ideally want 4k at 60fps option as I sometimes slow mo footage. Can you help with any suggestions or advice? Choices seem to be Sony AX53, Canon Legria G50 or Panasonic HC VX1 all of which are limited to 4k 30fps. Thanks David

Hi David Hmmmm It is a pity that you don't have another $1000 the Canon XA-50. Its got a lot more stuff that will be there for you as you improve. It's so close to the XF400 it's no funny . Ok for me the Panasonic HC VX1 is out of the picture. Panasonic image colors are weird. The Sony AX53, Canon Legria G50 are a better choice . I would chose the Canon Legria G50 But its your choice not mine . Good Luke and stay safe. Cheers Derek

@@DerekHilton Thanks kindly for your prompt reply Derek and, yes, I'm thinking about holding off and saving another $1k. For that money I have liked the images on the net of the Panasonic HCX-1500 4K but haven't checked out the Canon XA 50. Does your reluctance to recommend Panasonic due to colour issues extend throughout their range or just the cheap stuff?
@DerekHilton3 жыл бұрын
Throughout their range.

@@davidfoote6964 The x1500 is a very good camera and has excellent color reproduction, the best of any Panasonic. I find this camera to be the best for capturing birds, animals and wildlife. But there is also a drawback, this blurring of the corners of the image due to the optics in the wide-angle position of 25mm. However, this can be easily controlled if the zoom angle is slightly reduced, from about 40mm the angles are already clear.

Owning the R6 myself and using it for photos and videos about 50/50, I can aggree, that if you look for only video, the R6 doesn't make much sense!
