Thanks as always, Christopher! My 24-105 EF was my absolute favorite, go-to, walkaround lens for most applications. Having finally moved to mirrorless (R5 and R6 Mk II), it was a no-brainer to add the RF version to my bag (once I got my 100-500 and 200-800 lenses, that is). The 24-105 RF just came today, and I'm really looking forward to putting it through its paces!

I am using my "old" EF glas with the EF-2-RF mount adapter with the control ring. So I have this feature also to my "old" EF and EF-S lenses. They are working pretty well on my EOS RP and R7. And my EF L lenses are performing very good on the R mirrorless system with the adapter. Thank you for your work for testing all this (for me Canon) lenses!!!

I bought one of these for my wife. She uses it on her EOS RP. The focus speed on this lens is amazing. I have an EF 24-70mm f/2.8 L II that we used on her RP via the adapter and the focus speed on that lens isn't nearly as fast as this lens. Its also lightweight. We bought it pre-owned. We buy most of our Canon products either pre-owned or Canon refurbished. We save tons of $$$$$.

I got one of the old EF 24-105/4 kit'd with my 5D mk2 back when that camera was launched. It's the only lens I've ever abused. I once managed to drop it by not having closed my camera bag and standing up, it fell out and landed on the sidewalk. It still works 100% but the filter screw thread got FUBAR bent. I've always been really impressed with my little 24-105 that it's still alive and kicking and I've since (knock on wood) never done something that stupid to my gear.

@@beezymeech what do you call a lens that’s bundled with a camera body at a discount? I believe the overwhelming majority of photographers would call that…a “kit lens”. It really is that fast. I just tested it out yesterday and was amazed how nice the lens is. It feels good to use and the sharpness was amazing. I was actually there to test an older 17-40mm with no IS, also at f4. The results were very different hand held due to the extra zoom and the IS.

@christopherfrost I follow you channel with high interest and am always impressed about your review and functional showcase. I do have a question, not sure if you easily could anwer this, but. After switching over to the Canon R system (R6), right now I am still working with my Tamron 24-70 f2.8 G2 lens. I do like this lens very much and I am happy about the image quality. I am a bit less happy with the extra weight and length due to the usage of the RF to EF mount adapter. I wonder, is going forward from the Tamron G2 to the Canon RF 24-105 f4 a step forwarth, even while you loose a stop of light. Do you think it is possible to give any opinoin about this question? I do appriciate any comment! Bless you and all the best

I tried an f4 old Canon L lens on a aps-c camera and found the lens quite dark and not too sharp. Probably, it is because this lens is not for a aps-c camera where it becomes like f6-6.4. Anyway I was amazed how this lens performs in the video on a ff camera.

Looks pretty good to me, apart from the close-up image quality (and, related: minimum focus distance could be a bit closer). Of course there's always room for more improvements, for example regarding vignetting and work against light, but it's not too bad.

Hi Christopher. If setting this lens at 50mm and 35mm focal lengths, and then to the same settings as 35mm f1.8 and 50mm f1.8 (nifty fifty) prime lenses, say at F 8, shooting a landscape, will the 24-105 f4L yield a better image quality than the budget prime lenses? Same question for portraits too, at say, F4, please. I have a Canon R8 and own the two prime lenses.
