Thank you, finally someone mentions this back cap issue with RF. It is horrible. Both Canon EF and Nikon F caps are symmetric and can be put on blindly in 3 possible orientations, worse case turn 120 degree. Here this thing jams if put on wrongly, requires up to 360 degree turn. Stunning. When I wrote about that in dPreview forum, Canon fanboys who probably never change a lens in dim light or on the move, replied with a hurricane of objections "what, a lens cap, you are so wrong to write that." It is sad that Canon, a pro oriented camera maker commits this unforced error with this cap design.

I think that the lock mechanism is for when the lens is stowed in a bag with the hood on. Sometimes the hood can catch on something, and start pulling the lens. I have had a few lenses do this so I try to engage the lock (if there is one) before putting the lenses away.

The Canon 24-70 2.8 with IS should have been on the last Canon 24-70 2.8 II. Nikon had their 24-70 2.8 with VR for long time. And now the have it for the mirroless only. Since I use two cards for weddings on my Canon 5dkmk3 (yes I had few times when one card went bad) so the the Canon mirrorless with one card DOES NOT work for "ME", After playing with the Sony 7aiii and the camera having built-in IS, I sold all my canon cameras and few old lenses. I got two Sony 7aiii and the Sony 24-70 2.8, I also kept my Canon 85 1.4 IS which with the MC-11 works great with the Sony. I feel Canon needs to move faster and their marketing dept listen more to people comments as many are switching after even decades with them. i was over 20 years with Canon and my clients are doing their events and not waiting on companies to do their special days. Hi Jared great series of videos. The reason they've added a lock (1:26), I hope, is to stop zoom creep when it's pointing down on a tripod eg overhead product or macro shots. Jared, if we want to make a proper review of this lens, we should directly compare it with the legendary Canon 24-70 f/2.8L II USM lens - preferably on a DSLR (not a mirrorless with adaptor). @@marksimmons9920 as far as we know.. Nasa used metric to put a man on the moon..
@marksimmons99205 жыл бұрын
@@MarkoNara You can certainly go through and find a a handful of areas, sometimes that the German engineers worked on, though most of it was done by American engineers in traditional units. Nasa drew on a huge array of engineering and science, some used different measurements but most engineering in that area was in English units. (In terms of accuracy it's all irrelevant anyway as both systems are now defined according to the same base SI definitions). Even in the 1990s people were moaning that Nasa was using English measurements. Now I'm not saying a nation using the metric system cannot ever land a man on the moon ... but it hasn't happened yet. There's a wider point though - why not accept different languages and cultures and learn what a pound is? Like food, language, music, political traditions etc it's nice to have differences around the world.

Lots of us Engineers in the USA use metric. In my job we do a lot of work using our customer’s drawings. Some use metric and some use imperial units. We have to constantly switch back and forth! Lots of US companies use metric too!
@marksimmons99204 жыл бұрын
@moo Not really - both are exactly as accurate as the other - both being defined by the same SI base units. As for day to day use, most people who know both systems generally prefer to use traditional measures in every day life as it's more sophisticated and appropriate to human experience, refined over many centuries. We end up with lvoely easy to use numbers - eg 6 feet or 6 ounces etc. Indeed in many coutries that went metric governments had to use the law to force people to change as most people if given the choice wouldn't change as in day to day life the metric system is inferior - indeed one could say objectively inferior insofar as it doesn't tend to mix well with normal human experiences. It does sound like you need to broaden your mind a little! Don't be scared of difference and diversity. You sound like those people who tried to stamp out the Welsh and Irish languages.

How is the dust sealing on this particular RF lens? I've heard photographers having a nightmare with Tamron and Sigma's current 24-70 due to dust getting sucked in to the lens due to poor sealing on the extending lens barrel. Or in your extensive use of the lens, have you detected any issues with dust [long term use]?

@@BastiaanvandeWerk I got it actually in november to my trip in Malta. Now I have debt but I love it. It has some minor distortion but lightroom got last updat new lens profile to fix most of it and those black corners also. But again these wide to zoom always have compromises and in this lens they are minimal!

You cant compare (accurately) eye auto focus from two different venues, two different lighting setups, and different lens, and say you have a definitive answer on which BODY has the better eye auto focus. Too many variables. If you shootin both the same night one after the other then yes.

Yea, thus why i didn't say definitively. I said in my opinion using it in the situations i've used it in.

Can you pull it like that without twisting it and not messing up the lens?
@froknowsphoto5 жыл бұрын
Yes but it wouldn't be practical during a shoot.

Sounds like if you need a easy life buy a Sony A9, and because of the MK2 it's not much different in price from the Z and R.

without seeing any actual pixel peeping tests of the new Canon glass, it seems like Canon is making some great glass, the 50 and 85 f1.2 lenses seem sweet, and from what I hear they are allot better quality than there old DSLR versions of the same lenses. and from what I hear, all the new glass blows away all there DSLR glass, but the 28/70 f2 is not something I would ever deal with. why carry a lens that is heavier than a 70/200 just to get f2. with my Sony I have f1.8 primes that are super small and light for when I want faster than f2.8 and they are allot less money and still faster than f2. Canon seems like there focusing works fine for portrait shoots, but any situation that challenges it a little bit or the subject is a further distance away and the eye focusing doesn't work. where any of the new Sony Cameras will catch an eye no problem 99% of the time. and the same thing with sports or wildlife, from what I hear the Canon mirrorless doesn't totally cut it, and the fact that Canon is about to put out a 1DX lll that is a DSLR says it all. Because if Canon was capable of making a Mirrorless that could complete with the A9 and A9ll they would be making a full size sports camera that was mirrorless. but I don't think you will see that from Canon for another couple of years. so they are putting out the 1DX lll DSLR to buy themselves some time to catch up to Sony. but I don't think Canon will ever totally catch up, maybe they will catch up to the point that it is good enough, but I think Sony will always have some new technology that keeps them ahead. but Canon at least needs to put out a new model with two card slots. and just one other point about Canon and there new mount. I think they shot themselves in the foot a little bit by making it so big. now all of there lenses need to be wider or bigger at the mount. and for there smaller apsc cameras they are going to also have to use the big mount. witch means all the apsc glass is gong to be huge where it connects to the mount. unless someone wants to buy there crappy M system with it's crappy glass. Jared I am curious, when you do your concert photography, what percentage of the time do you think you need wider than 24mm ?

I’ve been saying it for over a year now that canons glass is the best of the bunch.

@@froknowsphoto you've been saying it for over a year, how many new lenses did canon have over a year ago ? even now they only have a hand full, and you are coming to those conclusions just by you own feelings. not by any actually side by side detailed testing between brands. because you don't ever test lenses in a detailed way like some people or companies do. but i am not saying you feeling about the new Canon glass is wrong. they have some really nice glass, and maybe it is the best glass out. but I would still like to see some better testing that actual proves it one way or the other. but I have to ask, did you only read the top of my comment. because my question to you was at the bottom. and your reply didn't answer it. because i was curious how often the wider zoom actually makes it onto your camera when doing concert photography.
