Agreed. If we hadn't believed Canon and dumped our EF glass for RF glass the lack of a C500 and/or C300 replacement wouldn't be a problem at all...as it is we have lots of lenses and no camera bodies.

I'd REALLY like to see a "Canon C50" a komodo-style box camera. FF, RF, ND (if possible) Cinema Cube. Or.... an s35 "C30" a mini C300 (essentially C70 in box-form). I'm annoyed with every R5C rig I've tried. It works best w/o a rig or any accessories. Fx3 is a little better, but has similar issues with button placement when in a rig.

At this point we need a complete canon overhaul. C300 and C500 need a combined R mount PL mount similar to the Sony Venice. The C700 needs a complete upgrade to compete with the Sony Burano.

The 24-105 f2.8 kinda sorta obviously points to a full frame cinema camera sooner than later. They always claimed with their cinema line to not want arace to the bottom price-wise, but that race is here given FX3, Blackmagic and upstarts like DJI/Mavo on the horizon and Fuji lurking. Stakes could not be higher and margins slimmer. Not sure what a winning strategy is other than an Alexa-ish thing under $10k.

I think part of Canon's problem is that they'll never have the "new and exciting" camera...but they'll always have the reliable camera. They make great workhorse cameras that last for years...but that means not constantly rolling out new cameras. What's crazy is that Arri basically does the same thing, but they're Arri and get to do that.

Define reliable. Because arguably, the C70 was plagued with quality issues. Plus the R5 was renown for overheating. Personally, I'd love to see Canon stick with the C70 style and form factor. The price point is their target market in 2024. I don't know many people reaching for the C300 or C500 these days. They've all moved on in my personal experience.

Sony is known in the industry as the reliable video camera. Canon just plays 2nd fiddle in all.

@@SuperPhunThyme100 I don't think used to be the case. I'd argue, around 2017-2019 Canon really had a solid grip on the market for smaller filmmakers. A *lot* of people were using the C200, myself included. In fact, that's how I found this channel. The hard part I would argue is everyone else has caught up. Hard to imagine what Canon would bring to the table that would compel someone to leave what they likely now already own. For me, it would have to be 16 bit and superior auto focus.

Well, owning the R5C I’m confident in buying a dedicated cinema Canon camera especially with the firmware updates that the R5C has been getting!! It’s like future proofing their products I love it!!! And I’m here for it!!

They really impressed me with the endless updates to the C70. I feel they would make a lot of folk happy if they simply gave Clog2 to their mirrorless camera line, especially the R5 & R5c. Canon are not great at marketing & influencer outreach, causing a lot of opinion around them to crumble within the younger user-base. They barely talk about the XC protocol, etc. which are pretty awesome when combined with the app. Strangling the 3rd party RF mount was another example of this strange marketing. They need a new approach to sharing what they do best.

If I were Canon, I would focus not on camera updates but on accessory updates. I would create a monitor similar to the Atomos Ninja V to connect to all Canon cameras. This monitor would be touch-screen and possess camera-control features. Since Canon made the app that can control specific cameras, why not create an external remote/monitor? Similar to Black Magic's monitor with that new mini camera that came out. Two base versions could be made, one monitor that could record internally and one without. What about a Canon version of a Wireless RX/TX Monitor? What about a video live-streaming/switcher app for mirrorless cameras? A streaming app with multicam features for use with a tablet or phone? With all of these mirrorless cameras, you can get into live streaming.

I've been using C200 for 4 years now and there is nothing wrong with it. The auto-focus is not as fast or accurate as new cameras but it's not that big of a deal. Image from the camera is really pleasant, a little soft, film-like-look. It is the "most underrated" camera in my opinion. It's a no brainer if you want a perfect cinema camera for budget. I was about to buy another one used but someone else bought it first. :D

Canon have box cameras and have had for many years :) but they are for streaming or surveillance.. The c500 mark 3 or a new revamped C700 is what I think will be the next big thing :)

C300 mk3 is a beast a fully capable of anything you need. Drawback is glass. EF is old news, RF is drastically better. That said, they HAVE to have a solution that is FF, built in ND, RAW, that uses the RF mount or they will lose a ton of users in the next year to Sony. Us included.

IMHO - unless Canon blow the doors off the dynamic range (which is possible), it's hard for me to see anything Canon may release that will win people over to their cinema camp. I for one would love to see global shutter and the Sony A9 III shows why it would be beneficial in not only cinema, but also photography. Still a big Canon user and fan for the still side of my work, but hard to imagine a scenario that will win me back to the cinema side.

I’m sorry, but a general update to the C300 and C500 doesn’t seem significant when we’ve seen so much from the competition unless we see truly game changing new features. They have very significantly lost the doc and broadcast market and I’m not sure what they can bring, even what you listed, to gain that back at this point.

In my opinion, there is still no better camera on the market than the C500mkll, that is in the same price range. I don't care if the FX9 outsells it 20 to 1. If you're a freelancer that relies on getting work from the Sony crews, then that's your camera. Otherwise, I'm happy to be the odd man out with the better tool.

You and the rest of the world. I haven't had a request for a Canon camera in years, it's all requests/demands for FX3, FX6/9 in corporate. I still rock my two C200s, love them, but Canon gave up being a head to head competitor once Sony came out with the FX cameras.

@@CringePanda The FX6 fits the bill but seems to have a ton of bad design/things breaking on it so I would avoid the FX6. FX9 is better built, more reliable, but big and heavy. FX3 is a good little camera but no built-in NDs, you can’t turn off the internal noise reduction.
