In this series of tutorials, Explorer of Light Bruce Dorn takes us through four different scenarios in which a professional would be able to fully leverage the radio functionality of the Speedlite 600EX-RT and the Speedlite Transmitter ST-E3-RT units. He also shows us how to create and balance fill and ambient lighting using the included color correction gels included with the Speedlite 600EX-RT units.
In this episode, watch Bruce create a dramatic backlight while balancing the subject and background with hidden Speedlite units.

These vids of real world use of the 600ex rt system are great, as is Bruce. Keep them coming, please.

Canon should put that st-e3-rt transmitter into every camera they make.

Canon, thank you for your response. What does not work is Groups. What I have to do is ratios which makes it tougher to turn off one or the other. I also understand I can't set my flash from the camera. If I am incorrect please let me know. I have tried groups several times and I can't get it to work. When I turn off a group, it still fires. I am up to date with my 5D2 firmware.

hi! i just saw this video, and i'd like to ask, that why do you use so high ISO setting, if there are so many flashes? and the exposure isn't a bit low for a handheld shot? :-) or these are because of the "natural" lights of the backround? thx!

Impressive stuff, but I don't think my 50D is compatible with the 600EX-RT :(

I have a 6D, is necesayi the ST-E3-RT to control de 600 EX RT?
@CanonUSA

Hi Alejandro! The Speedlite Transmitter ST-E3-RT is only necessary to use if you have a complex lighting setup in which you are trying to communicate with a large group of individual Speedlites wirelessly. You can use the Speedlite 600EX-RT without the Speedlite Transmitter ST-E3-RT to set up wireless communication between flashes. If you still have additional questions, feel free to reach out to our technical support team at bit.ly/ContactCanon. We hope this helps!

Great video! I use three flases: two 580 and one 600 ex rt,triggered by pocket wizard . However there is a problem whe I want to include more lights - flash heads to be triggered optically by speedlights. It seems there is a preflash in every speedlight even though all were set to manual mode, and that preflash triggers flash head resulting unsynchronized lighting. Anyone has similar issues? Im worried mostly because i want to buy ringflash to be used as main light

Thanks for your reply but I;m triggering speedlights with radio remote(PW) and I don't need any preflash at all. Is it possible to turn the preflash off? Instructions missing the part with combining speedlights with flash heads

When you use the Speedlite with Orange Gel. What is the correct value of the Kelvin?
@CanonUSA
@CanonUSA 10 жыл бұрын
Hi, thanks for posting! Bruce was using the orange Tungsten gel, which allowed the flash to match the tungsten lighting fixtures. You can try shooting RAW and using the Tungsten (approximately 3200K) white balance.

Will the 600ex trigger two 430ex speelights?
@CanonUSA
@CanonUSA 10 жыл бұрын
Hi, playrefreshed! The Speedlite 600EX-RT can be set up to trigger any EX-series Speedlite that has a "slave" setting, which includes both the Speedlite 430EX and the Speedlite 430EX II. We hope this helps!

No. Seems like that preflash cannot be turned off. I bought more flashes and more PW recievers to compensate

Final images are quite boring. Sorry. To be honest, fiddling around with so many flashes in ETTL seems so over-complicating and limiting. I'm sure things could have been done much quicker if he wasn't relying on the speedlights' judgement. I'll just stick with my manual speedlights and studio strobes for full control.

Daniel DeArco you missed the point of this video bruce mixed ettl with manual flash here , using ratio for ettl and power control on manual. Also showing how far the radio transmits in the theater and works through walls. I for one am impressed with the flashes and the resulting images.

Didn't like any of the images he took - the composition, the way they were lit, and the post-processing were all subpar.

Joshua Chang I was thinking the same thing. They looked like they were took with a pocket camera. Basic stuff like even the white balance looked off. I was expecting to see drama dark background with some flashes shining thru for dramatic effect. Just terrible.

I was disappointed that a video about "creative" lighting with 4 - $600 Speedlites and a $400 Transmitter only showed the Speedlites being grouped and fired. Is that all this set up is good for? what about changing the zoom or power output from the transmitter? You sponsored all of this guys gear for him and all he did was light up background walls which he could have done without a transmitter.

Don't really like this video. Get straight to the lighting setup, so that viewers are not bored by the presenter's repeated praise of the flashlight & it's features.
