Canon VIXIA HF G30 Camcorder Zoom Rocker Switch Repair & Replacement Guide ( DG3-7176-000 )

Thanks a lot for your video. Had exactly the same problem with my G40. Followed your guide to take the camera apart - Your video helped a lot. I my opinion it's not a electronic problem. It's the working point of the spring in the zoom rocker. In my case a little (delicate !) bending of the spring in the rocker did the trick ! My camera kept zooming out , so i bend the spring to have less tension on the Tele-side of the spring. Since 2 days now the camera is working like a charm .

Thanks again for this detailed repair video. It is excellent. I had the same problem with mty G40, so this "bug" has not been fixed by Canon. However, I must say, dusting off the rocker arm with compressed air worked for me temporarily. So, I don't know if my issue is just mechanical or electronic. Since your zoom ring behaves the same way, I am assuming that it is an electrical problem, and I may be at the early stage of this disease 😀

I use of ND 2-32 kf just bought it not long ago. Made video with this camcorder using it. Makes this camcorder look exactly like Canon c100. Check it out. Pull more dynamic rage out of fstop giving you nice blur and reduction of reflection surface

Hey got the same problem, my g30 keeps zooming out. I ve read that some compressed air would help, but do I have to open my case like you did in the video?

I tried cleaning mine by opening it like in the video. It fixed it for like 2 mins

@@DavidWaltermyer don't know how long it helps, but I just pulled on the switch on both sidee, now it's not zooming in anymore. But I don't know how long this will last

I recently tried doing this. Completely stripped two of the bottom screws out and are unable to remove them. I've tried a few things and have had no success unfortunately.

The screw heads are quite tiny (and soft). At this point you would probably have to carefully drill the heads off. If you don't have one already, invest in a good quality screw driver kit, I recommend the iFixIt kits.

@@DavidWaltermyer Thank you so much for the reply! Good news I took it to the computer shop that recently built my computer and the guy was able to get both of them out but took about 15mins. He said it was the toughest screw he ever fought. I wanna get a better screw driver set. I bought a craftsman one with a 000 Philips but its not the JIS head and I don't want anymore stripped screws. Your video is very great at explaining and looks like a super easy thing to do when the screws don't strip. Especially since its just more time consuming because of all the screws is the only problem. Took about a month or so to even get the part.
