I am located in Wisconsin on the Mississippi River. Yes you can only shoot one canvasback per day here most years but there are lots of other ducks to harvest while on the hunt. I havest 20 or more species a year. From mallards to an occasional sea duck. So quite a bit of shooting takes place during a hunt. The feds counted 450,000 Canvasbacks this year just on a couple miles of River this year. When there are only 650k in the world no where else has the numbers of cans like we have.

I do remember a NO KILL BAN ON CANVAS BACKS, back in the 70s and part of 80s here in Illinois!

Dayyyum! Can I hunt with y'all? All them cans... I'm jealous as hell, I won't lie.

The cans do this all the time. If you buy some OS Canvasbacks from GHG they will pretty much just suck on in. still pretty much amazing to watch

Wow nice! if we get groups of 30 on the Columbia it is a big group, those are flat out massive flocks!

AMAZING! Truely jealous, I live on the eastern sierra side of the pacific fly way in california, and I have NEVER seen so many birds. Very lucky!
@Bodycarver11 жыл бұрын
I live in California and we can shoot one per day. That is a joke. We have more Cans on the lake then all other birds combined. Our lake is White with cans. Everywhere you look. You will kill your Can before you finish putting out decoys. Great video guys.

Nice! Same deal for me on the Miss. I believe I'm a few pools south of you. Cans all over and limit was 1. Clouds of Bluebills and limit was 2. I'm lucky to get a Mallard (any puddle duck) to even decoy my diver spread. Mallard limit was 4. How about the Feds/States give diver hunters a break. I'll trade my puddle duck limit for diver ducks. You would think the USFWS and DNR could get a little more creative on baglimits.

I live in Alabama and cans are very rare on our lakeside but although we have numerous mallards, reds, and also wood duck.

@Gbwbaseball It is 1 per person per day. Probably will have one again this year. It is a fairly rare duck which we have a ton of but the rest of the country they can be few and far between. hence the 1 per person. In 2010 my boat averaged over 10 ducks per hunt for the entire season. So besides cans we get a good variety of ducks to shoot aswell as we view the thousands of cans flying around.

where bouts is this video taken? me my dad and one of my buddies hunt the Wisconsin side of the river right across from Wabash back in Indian slough and i remember seeing flocks like that the past couple years...its fun just to sit and watch em fly around

@blazebackwater I have the largest concentration of canvasbacks in the world during peak migration. This year I believe we peaked at 380,000. So the sky can almost turn black with them. I decoy hundreds if not thousands of canvasbacks most days thoughout November. I probably harvest more Canvasbacks than anyone in the world and like to think of myself as the go to outfitter in the country if people are looking to shoot one.

Wish they would still come in those numbers on the Chesapeake

You can thank the market hunters and greedy other hunters for that demise - to be honest most ducks left eventually will be mallards and geese - I'm an avid hunter but wow not any ducks besides mainstay migration route - those too will lessen as time goes on.

@ watrfwlnut - Give the guy a break. He offers a service for people who dont have a proper boat/decoys/location etc that want to shoot divers and perhaps cant afford to hunt in Mexico. Thank God for young ambitious guys who will take a chance to start a business in the USA and create wealth. Who are you to criticize.

You might say you have the largest concentrations of Cans in the world but obviously you've never been to Lake St Clair on the Ontario/Michigan border, because we too get those type of numbers during peak migration..Good video..
