Thank you for watching! Have you used Canson Mi-Teintes before? If so how did you like it?
@denneb-astronomiaearte59942 жыл бұрын
I use it a lot since it is one of the only options of "professional" papers we have here in Brazil for pastels (my preferred medium). I like it for colored pencils and pastels (oil and dry). They variety of colors is of the things that make them so cool, I like the black paper to draw astronomy themes. I love your work, keep supplying us with your amazing tips =)

Awful, as your example showed you cannot get a solid uniform colour down without a huge battle, I went full tilt at the pastels thinking it would overcome that flaw with coloured pencils coverage issues. As it stands right now Alcohol Markers and paint are the only way to get down that nice coverage, unfortunately markers can't do anything realistic.

@@scottman572 I'm sorry to hear that you didn't have a good time trying out this paper. I can certainly understand why you don't like it, it definitely isn't well suited for strong solid layers of colour, but perhaps does lend itself well to my drawings because I'm trying to achieve fur and feather texture anyway. Paper is a very personal preference in that regard.

Do you like it better than Pastelmat? Very good video by the way.
@brusheswithbec Жыл бұрын
@@jimmyknopflericussi6488 That's a very good question, I'm not sure that I like one better than the other but I like them each better for different purposes. The mi-teintes is good for quicker pieces where I don't need as much detail, whereas the Pastelmat really is superb for lots of layers and fine detailing.

I recently bought some and used the textured side by mistake. I had a hard time trying to get rid of the see through spots. I was going to trash my artwork but tried a solvent and Wow!!!!! It made my art look like a painting. It melted the layered colored pencil into paint. I was so happy.❤️

So many people make a big deal about Pastelmat, which I'm sure is a great product. But your beautiful artworks shown here is all the proof you need that not only is Mi Tientes also a great product but that a great artist doesn't need "the best" tools.

Well I also love using Pastelmat, but I love working with Canson Mi-teintes as well, it works well for my style. Pastelmat is wonderful but requires me to work a certain way which I don't always have the patience for. Thank you :)

I accidentally discovered this paper when I was doing pastel still lives at art school. Back than there was no such thing as KZbin review. It was a game changer. That's when I understood the importance of good art materials.

2:20 It works surprisingly well with solvents, maybe the reason is that we use very small amount solvent, which the paper cannot even notice. This is one of my favorite papers, if not the favorite; it is affordable, looks beautiful, and works great with all the media I love: color pencils, oil pastel, and soft pastel. It cannot compete with Pastelmat for versatility, but a lot more affordable. I simply love this paper even with its limitations.

Nice video with lots of good information, thank you for making this! I've thought about trying the smooth side of my canson mi-teintes paper for colored pencils, but haven't yet because I've been too nervous with how transparent colored pencils are as a medium. XD I prefer white or cream paper because you have more color control, and it worries me to think about using toned paper hahaha. It doesn't look like the toned paper messes with the end color of the drawings though from your examples. :) I will surely have to try it some day.
@brusheswithbec3 жыл бұрын
Thank you :) I think the toned paper can have an effect on the end result, it's just about choosing the right tone for the subject. Currently working on a Labrador and using an olive-sandy colour which sits about in the mid tones of the piece so it compliments it nicely. I think it depends a little on how you work too.

I use Canson Mi-teintes only smooth side for mixed-media. Underpainting with Faber-Castell PITT + W&N Promarker. Top layers with dry pastel pencils in many brands.

I was not happy with this paper for my first go with pastels but I need to get it another go. I was using pan pastels. What pencils are you using?

I use all sorts of colour pencils on this, Polychromos, Derwent Drawing, Coloursoft, they all work well on this paper in my opinion.

I have used small amounts of solvent to help layer and it works without buckling the paper especially if you stick to the zest it sponge....but the color of the paper goes scary for a minute til it dries....you have to not panic

Thank you. Is it good choice for making portraits with charcoal pencils on that paper? I am beginner
@brusheswithbec3 жыл бұрын
I haven't used charcoal pencil but on their website charcoal is one of the recommended mediums for this paper 😊
@jennyb-aeternabitart74362 жыл бұрын
Ingres paper was made for charcoal originally. The structure of this paper is very similar, so it probably will be good for charcoal. It will probably be good on the front (honeycomb side) too, if it fills better than coloured pencil. 😁

Pastel should work as well as the color pencils, if not better because pastels have bigger pigment particles than color pencils.
