Cant record 4k High on OBS with AMD AV1 encoder?......need help!

Here are a few suggestions to improve your 4K video recording and playback: 1- Use CQP for 4K: Start with a CQP (Constant Quality Profile) setting between 20 and 30. Remember, 4K resolution is very detailed, so a higher CQP value does not necessarily mean lower quality. Typically, a CQP of 15 is used for 1080p. 2- Consider AV1 and H.265: While AV1 is generally good, it can have hardware compatibility issues. If you encounter problems with AV1, try using H.265 (HEVC), which is still widely used and provides excellent quality. 3- Check Hard Drive Health and Speed: Ensure your hard drive is in good condition and that its read speeds are sufficient for 4K video. Many creators record at a lower resolution and upscale to 4K using video editing software. Recording at 1440p is often a good compromise between frame rate and quality.

@Kurigo I appreciate this! I did receive a comment on another similar video I posted, and the response was pointed towards the 7800x3d possibly being the issue? Not being able to feed information fast enough to the 7900xtx?

​@@Spratty-wb3is That should not be a problem that CPU has a bigger case for video data transfer, and is also perfect for some extra fps in games. I have a different issue with my 7900xtx and 5950x so i came across your video. What i found out with Davinci resolve and OBS is the following. While recording in AV1 i got strange lag after harvesting an animal in thehunter on vorhunga taiga, so i investigated the issue with google and AI etc. nothing found. Turns out that the map vorhunga savanna is the problem because Medved Taiga, a different hunting map has zero issues and by that zero lag. Now today i was shocked that i rendered a video of station to station, also a game that causes mayor lag at times with any cpu/gpu. But in Davinci Resolve h265 encoder causes strange artifacts, while AV1 and h264 have zero issues. This is very strange. Now if i use AV1 and CQP 16 as a test to render a 4k video it causes mayor lag. This means that either the AV1 Encoder chip is stressed too much, or there is an issue with Davinci resolve. And guess what AV1 OBS 4k@60 causes also lag at CQP 16. This could still mean two things 1- The AV1 Chip is stressed and can't handle 4k@60 With CQP 16 [ translates to around 120k bitrate. 2- The AV1 software is not matured enough because it is the " new " kid on the block, this needs consideration because i could not even use AV1 a month ago with Davinci resolve. Everything considered this translates to OBS too and vice versa. I would set my base canvas in OBS to 4k@60, and record it at 2560x1440p [2k] and CQP 16/20. The tech industry promoted 4k 10 years ago and we are still not ready for it. If we where ready for 4k we don't need DLSS or FSR to upscale 1440p or lower to 4k to get decent fps in games. I feel where you are coming from, all the money and having all the trouble. Believe me that recording in 1440p and upscale by editing software to 4k is more than enough. Most people who watch youtube do it by phone and 720p monitors are still used more than 1440p and 4k. And you can't even compare 1080p to the above for it smashes the competition by user base. I believe we are the same with a desire to deliver quality and authenticity , but we have to do with what we can do. P.S a 4090 has the same issues as my 7900xtx

@Kurigo That's interesting! I might go into OBS and check that out tonight, thank you! I was recording with the CBQ set to 20 on both systems. AMD AV1 encoder. NVIDIA AV1 encoder. And the high setting for quality. 4k canvas and resolution. But the 4080 has no issue when recording this. The 7900xtx was either lagging or crashing. I've not tried Divinci as I was starting out and trying to avoid subscription. I am using just capcut at the moment and also have a problem in that with the AMD system. When I render a 10GB video on the 4080 it takes around 5 to 10 minutes to complete. The same size file on the XTX takes around 2 hours. Again this is all using the same settings as basically I'm trying to use comparison so trying to keep all my recording and rendering also the same.

@@Spratty-wb3is Interesting, seems that the software lacks support for the AMD card. Davinci Resolve is free by the way, it might look overwhelming but its really simple. There is a paid version, but the Free version also supports GPU Decoding and Encoding for fast rendering. In the past this was not the case. I avoid subscription models like the plague, if you need good foto software buy Affinity Photo and if you need Affinity Designer. Buy once keep forever.

@Kurigo Oh really? In that case I might download and check out Divinci. I spoke to a few people using premier pro and that appears to render quick with AMD hardware but that appears subscription so I ignored it..
