Many people say that this game has no game difficulty options. In fact, if you defeat the Boss within a certain period of time, its second combat form will be triggered. If you just barely defeat the Boss, it will not be triggered. This is the adaptive difficulty of this game. Additional information: not all bosses have this setting. From the offline trial, the monkey boss triggers the second combat form after reaching a certain amount of health within a specific time frame. The second combat form switches the battle scene, the boss will grow wings, its attack speed and damage will increase, and its skill form will be slightly altered. The tiger boss has a second combat form, but few players have experienced it in the offline trial. This information is based on the trial version, and I'm unsure if the official release will modify this aspect.

For anyone wondering about PS5 performance. I bought the game yesterday and played the entire first chapter and the beginning of the second chapter. Aside from the very intro (which, to be fair, is completely bonkers) the FPS has been a very stable 55-60 FPS on performance mode. It very rarely hindered the experience in any way. I would definitely recommend turning off Motion Blur for the best experience. While it could be a tad better, the game is completely playable on PS5. As for difficulty, it is significantly more forgiving than a game like Elden Ring. I definitely think that Game Science wanted the player to feel more 'Cool' than 'Fragile'.

I love the game just completed it on PS5 and while you're right that it's playable, the visuals and graphics are awful. It really needs to be patched and polished on ps5. The frame rates constantly dip and the visuals suffer massively because they've used frame generation to get it up to an artificial 60fps which causes so many blurred textures and backgrounds. I really hope they'll put some serious work into improving performance and visuals on ps5 as, like I said, I did love the game it could be a genuine great but its current performance on ps5 is nowhere near good enough given the capabilities of next gen hardware.

If they fail to do so, on principle, I would pass on any dlc as difficult as that may be. If you feel like youre not getting pulled into the lore/story enough, check out the journal. They really went into great depth with it. Every single enemy from minor to major has some kind of backstory or related lore in the journal if you expand it to read it all.

No. Shitty game stays shitty game. If a game is released it needs a minimum quality. The cam bugs are not alright. That's bullshit and bad work. Nothing triple A when you have such bugs. NG+? No need for that. No advantage with that. If the NG+ has any bonuses compared to the normal start except taking over items and skills...include that into the normal game and don't try to force me to play a second time your boring game. I'm not saying the game is boring. But who does that to NG+ says it himself. Stutter? Would like to know what the graphic settings are. Don't tell me about stutter when you max out everything. If you can have a good and stable game performance with good looking settings. That's enough...except you can tell that it's not because of high level of graphic quality but it's bad coding or bad conversion. A game has to be finished on release. No first day patches. No things that are not working. That's all bullshit. NG+ is a good way for the industry to increase the Steam statistic as you keep players for a longer time playing. But having bugs...well. People like to just give bullshit games back on steam and be done with it. So no. Just having 2 mobile games done before doesn't matter. In two months it can matter when I say "Fantastic game. Although this is a linear game, it actually takes more than 40 hours to clear the level for the first time, even if it is not a full collection and exploration, and 80 hours to complete all tasks and full collection. Some Chinese trial media only discovered that there are many more after completing the level. The BOSS has never been defeated because there is no strategy, and they don’t know how to trigger it or where the BOSS is.

Playing this game on Geforce Now with ultimate subscription, 2k monitor, ray tracing on very high, DLSS quality and everything on cinematic. Runs at about 80-100fps and quite stable. About 10hours in, deep into chapter two. Had no big frame drops in fights, no bugs or anything worth mentioning. Been a smooth blast to play.

The developer, Game Science, has only developed mobile games in the past. At the start of the project, Black Myth Wukong, the development team only has over 30 people, and until now there are just over 140 people. Considering the experience and size of the development team, I think Black Myth Wukong has far exceeded expectations.

A little back-story, the core development memebers used to work in Tencent, on an MMORPG named 斗战神, which has many elements from Journey to the West. The project was a hit at the time but later went south because they can't pump up the high-quality updates fast enough (it's an MMO in the end). This led to decreased revenue, and thus Tencent placed more monetization in the game to increase revenue. Eventually, the devs decided to leave Tencent, and go separate ways, eventually leading to the birth of Game Science, and Black Myth: Wukong.

I like this game so much more than any souls game. I love that the only negative to dying is you have to do it over. You keep everything always. So it's all about exploration and progression. The fact that you can reroll all your stats anytime makes it AMAZING and a part of the game. You often have to reroll your entire build to beat a boss. You also get to reroll pills later. Which is also amazing for custom builds on the fly. Overall, this is the best action game I've played in a while and it's SO DAMN SATISFYING when you finally beat that boss you've spent hours grinding on!

For some Lore, Wukong is a monkey that came out of a rock in an Island full of monkeys. I’m not sure but he has very gifted strength and took over the entire Island after a while he grew bored and decided to head on a Journey to become stronger. He spends some time in a dojo learning the ways of shapeshifting and other stuff then he gets a bunch of weapons and creates chaos in the heavens. Then Buddha is annoyed and traps him under a mountain until one day a chosen monk is sent to Wukong so Wukong can guide the Monk east. During their way they get three other companions. Another monk, a pig person, and a horse that can become a dragon(I think). I’m not sure when this story takes place but it is probably after Wukong left the monkey Island. Note: I am doing this through memory so I glossed over a lot of important details Edit: He stole his weapon from a sea god.

Well there are over 10+ different type of staff with various stats & effect and then you have 3 different skill tree paths for different staff skills/technique to master. So that itself is very unique and far better to have many different weapon but just doing similar combos. I think the issue regarding the vague story bits might just be that the game is more catered to a Chinese audience or rather those who grew up with the JTTW story. In other words, the game assumes that you already know the story. That still doesn't justify the lack of clarity in the game's story, and it would really be helpful if it was more friendly to those who have never read JTTW. Especially when the game is called *Black Myth* : Wukong ( *黑神* :悟空) implying that the game takes a darker twist to the original JTTW tale, making it more confusing for those who don't even know the original story. A friend of mine from Geekerwan (a Chinese tech channel) told me earlier today that Game Science has patched their reviewer's copy and frame rates no longer drop during combat. They tested it with a 2nd gen Core i5 (far weaker than most CPUs you see today) and a GTX 1060 6G and it runs at ~45fps at mid settings. Definitely good news for gamers without a shiny brand new flagship PC😊 Also as far as I know none of the Chinese reviewers have see crashes so the crash problem *might* have to do with localization. Hopefully GS can solve the problem (if it really is their fault, I also suspect Intel chips for the crash😅) soon so that everyone can enjoy this incredible game❤

Great video! As someone who grew up in China, I wanted to share a few thoughts on the storyline. From what I can see, the issue with 'ineffective storytelling' largely stems from poor translation. The dialogue in the game often resembles Shakespearean language-elegant and meaningful, but not something people use in modern times. The lines are more concise yet carry deeper meaning. From one of the first trailers in around 2020, the narrator said "What if Journey to the West never happened? What if the monkey died along the way? What if they never actually made it to the West (India)? This is a story of Journey to the West you've never heard before." I'm not entirely certain if the game is meant to be a prequel, sequel or a variant interpretation of the novel. My understanding of the novel was that the monkey king was one of three bodyguards who followed a buddhist. The monkey king being instructed by Heaven as penance for his pranks and the others were coerced by the monkey king to do penance for their wrong doings. I'm looking forward to this as the monkey king was essentially the first mythic hero I grew up with so even if it turns out that you're playing his kid or clone I think it'll be a good time.

From what I heard its based on one of the chapters where there was an evil Wukong called Six Eared Macaque, a monkey also born from similar circumstances as the real Wukong so they have similar powers. In the end nobody can tell them apart so they fought in front of the Buddha and the Buddha being Buddha captured the evil Wukong. So in this game, you play as the Six Eared Macaque which is a pretty cool take. This was what the chinese internet was thinking the game was about before the released though. Now that it's released, Idk if it's based on this story.

Tips: If you know Dragon Ball, Goku was basically Wukong when he was a child. He got a tail. He used a staff that lengthen and shorten. Playing on the PS5 there's been no performance issues in said mode... but after playing a LONG session the game starts to have some caching issues, probably a memory leak, where it starts to stutter loading stuff such as your inventory showing the item on the right side, eventually leading to a crash. I think the gameplay is quite interesting in this one, they took the Journey to the West Sun Wukong powers and seem to have implemented them as well as they could (I don't expect all 72 transformations). I feel like this has that "easy to learn, hard to master" quality to its combat, where you can really look cool and powerful once you're able to not only remember to use your abilities, but also know how to use them strategically. At least that's what it feels like watching some recent gameplay, it seems no two playstyles are alike.

I am sooooo happy this is a linear game mannnnn. FINALLY. I’m so sick of these open world games that take foreverrrreerr to explore and get the most out of. I’m busy, I work full time 8-6:30, gym everyday and have a girlfriend so I get like 1 day a week to myself where I can just dump hours into a game so time is scarce.

there's a very interesting strategy game called My Lovely Empress that is extremely well done and is based on Yaoguai usage in an empire. The game has some incredible character designs definitely worth checking it out to learn more about who Yaoguai are and what they do.

You may like Clash: Artifacts of Chaos too. Came out in 2023. You play as an absolute gnarly freak of a creature named Pseudo who looks like a sore, nail-less thumb with weird hairs for a head and a body like a gnorpy wrinkled carrot. But the dude's also a martial arts hermit and throughout the game you can find different martial arts styles and individual attacks to assign to Pseudo. All of them have unique animation movesets. Slash keeps a lower profile and hits wider, Mammoth uses double haymakers and elbows to simulate the trunk and stompy legs and hits hardest of all Stances, Lightning Stance is like Muay Thai, and there's more that i won't spoil. It's a prequel to the Zeno Clash series and got a *really* striking art style and direction. One of the biggest complaints people had is that they get lost a lot. But looking around is rewarding because you can find figurines, which are essentially upgrade points for individual Stances and attacks. It's a somewhat... humble game. The setting isn't necessarily bombastic, but it's simply *good* in what it does. Gameplay, story, and especially writing, music and atmosphere. Very warmly recommend it.

In this review one of the things mentioned by Jake is the MAP, or lack there of, and how it "REALLY NEEDS" one. This stood out to me, and after playing awhile, I completely DISagree... Though I do understand. Because, when you first start playing it can be a bit off-putting not having a map in the upper left hand corner, or at the touch of a button, with Zoom and 50 different Icons and a Legend, Pins, and Fast-Travel Points. I'd gotten so used to having that, that I'd forgotten what a game/puzzle feels like without that CRUTCH!? Well, I'll tell you, it's REFRESHING!!! It's so cool to unknowingly EXPLORE! Walking around and taking mental notes on where things are, and where you've been, and where to go next, it's just incredible. And I believe that it was done intentionally, with that in mind. This game MAKES you think and that's probably the BEST part of it.

I'm excited for this and have been for years but 2 things annoy me: 1. I'm sick of games releasing in an unfinished state and not being ready at launch (Probably at the Publishers insistence) 2. A physical disc not being available despite a physical presence (I HATE this practice, it's really scummy) However the advantage to this is that we may get a physical with patches on the disc but i'm not going to stand for it, it needs to be called out

Especially when using certain programs that mimic PS & Xbox control schemes. On mine, sometimes the profiles just automatically reset/change upon system restart and I have to manually select my PlayStation profile again.

As a casual older gamer, I require two things from every game: 1) Must be able to invert BOTH the X and Y axis on the camera and 2) Must be able to adjust the difficulty setting to Easy so I won't get too frustrated. This game allows #1 but there is still no difficulty setting...so this game is off my purchase list.

So there's a view that the book is about understanding the world / self.
