These are beautiful, Sherry! I once made a Christmas village using the little sturdy cardboard juice boxes my son drank at the time. I also used some food boxes that have the little plastic "windows" for you to see the food item through, such as boxed pasta. This is one of the most fun crafts one can do, imo,because there is no limit as to what you can do and how you can decorate and design your village. It is easy to get very very involved and do a lot, and it is so much fun. But even if one paints them all white and makes it all look snowy, it still looks great. So you can go simple, or you can go very detailed, and it looks great either way. I glued all my houses to a flat piece of wood ,with all the trees, animals and fake snow. I even had a few miniature people. Though it was made out of cardboard juice and food boxes, I used it for years. Then one year when I stored it, something fell on it and crushed some of it. So, this video gives me a great idea to make a new one. It truly is one of the most fun crafts ive ever done, and the sky is the limit with how to make your little houses and landscape. Editing to add that in my village of juice boxes, I simply either painted the boxes, or used scrapbook paper to cover them, and since I had them glued to a piece of light wood, I simply took a strand of fairy lights and strung it through the village, around and behind the houses and through the landscape. With all the trees and fake snow and fences and such, the cord isn't very obviously visible. Since it was all glued down, I could just grab the village and set it out every year. The same could be done with these little wooden houses.
@CanterburyCottage2 жыл бұрын
Crystal!!! I love the idea of using juice boxes!!!! Just brilliant! I think I may have to copy your idea. I’m curious what you used for the roof.
@crystalparker25422 жыл бұрын
@@CanterburyCottage I used a variety of things. I used sturdy cardboard or foam board just cut and bent the way I needed it. Many popsicle sticks and something I learned from seeing the many great diy fairy gardens on Pinterest, pine cones. You just break the little "shingles" off the pine cone and glue them like actual shingles on your roof. It is a really cute look. I also learned from Pinterest how to use torn egg carton paper to glue on walls to create a stone look, because my village was like a true village with some bigger houses that would be sort of like the "castle" and the rest was like the castle town with shops and houses. I did work on it for months, but it was so enjoyable. You can truly let your creativity flow when creating a village and create almost anything. Many of the ideas I got were from Pinterest,and again, seeing the many diy fairy gardens and the things people have used to diy them. A lot of creative ideas with those, and you add snow, it's a winter village.

@@flowerchild777 The Christmas village is truly one of the most enjoyable things to create. And I have to be thankful that back when I made this, my kiddos were little and I didn't have a lot of time or money, so many of the best ideas I came up with were born out of necessity,and just finding things that were easily accessible to use for it. I believe ,when it's like that, that's when our most creative and best ideas come about. It was definitely true about my juice box Christmas village. Now, Sherry has inspired me to create another with these wooden bird houses. The only bad thing about mine was that if something remotely heavy fell on it or anything, it would get smooshed, which is what happened to it in storage. But these will be so much more sturdy.

Those are adorable! I will definitely build myself a Christmas Village. I remember my older brother in 5th grade art class built and decorated a little styrofoam Christmas house. All the kids built these to give to their mother's for Christmas. Never to go half way Tim rigged up a real electric porch light that plugged into the wall! This was back in the 1960's long before the age of solar farie lights and battery operated candles. It was the first light to come on at night throughout the Holiday Season.
