Not bashing your welding by any means but you dont want to make two passes on that thin of metal(Honestly on anything unless its TIG). the more you weld on it you actually weaken the metal and the weld is much more prone to cracking. Coming from someone that mig welds for a living it was a big mistake of mine when i was younger before I had actually went to school to get my certs. My welds looked gorgeous but the tensile strength was weaker. For example if you look at alot of big machinery that was welded together they dont make a full pass from corner to corner when they weld it, they will do stitches across because its stronger. Just some food for thought.
@reckemzz5 жыл бұрын
isnt it ok to do multiple passes as long as they're not ontop of each other, they're suppose to overlap in the middle ? atleast this is what we learned in my class
@ViperRoleplayfivem5 жыл бұрын
@@reckemzz AS long as the metal is thick enough and can handle the heat. Im sure atleast once in class you have burned through thin metal right? I believe he stated he was using 1/8th inch metal, thats pretty thin to run two passes(especially how thick he ran the pass), im not here to bash bodi, i absolutely love his videos and one of my favorite youtubers by far, More just giving me advice in furthering his quality of work. The reason I know a little more about these double passes is i've a few dosen service body racks for work trucks and the 1st and second one I did I overlaped beads making the second one much prettier so when it was powdercoated it would look much nicer and the only crack I have ever gotten on one of my racks was where I ran two beads lol I just learned to run 1 single nice bead instead. If it came out bad or not good enough, pull out the cutting wheel and start over but just band aid it.
@reckemzz5 жыл бұрын
@@ViperRoleplayfivem ah, ok got it thanks for the reply 👍 and yes ive burned through more metal than i care to admit lol
@ejohns45635 жыл бұрын
As long as the base metal has time to normalize after the weld, the joint will still be strong metallurgically speaking. I do agree that for that thin of metal a single pass with proper machine settings is ideal.
@ViperRoleplayfivem5 жыл бұрын
@@ejohns4563 100%, trust me i've made multiple passes on thin metal and its been holding up 5-6 years now but ideally you want to make a single pass(Unless you are mig welding a joint first than going with a much colder tig weld pass over it for aesthetics and proper coverage. tig welding in general would be much more ideal for this entire process tbh lol

The point of cantilever suspension is for leverage and mechanical advantage over stock suspension. This is done by extending the pivot point of the shock .
@zeroswings25 жыл бұрын
looks cool... but... it mightve been better to play around with the fulcrum ratios on the cantilevers... you could use much smaller and lighter spring/shock combos and mechanically amplify the spring/damping rates with the cantilevers while simultaneously reducing the forces the car generates... still super awesome set-up!
@MontyElav5 жыл бұрын
Pretty cool, this cantilever is a system used on sand rails, baja pre runners etc. Those heim joints are the best for this application. Enjoy!

Using a heim for the rocker pivot is no bueno. Should be solid on oilite or needle bearing bushing. Also coulda saved a grip and got dampers off a sport bike with a revalve and proper springs. Dual adjustable, revalvable reservoir coil overs ? Yes please and if you find a BMW or some Yamis, you get a bad ass Ohlins.

@SAViOR131005 жыл бұрын
That is something. Maybe you could weld support bars that would frame how your fuel cell would fit? If you plan to put it in the trunk. But this looks hella cool with the way the shocks are setup. Super easy to change spring weights as well if you want it stiffer or softer. Imagine you get that suspension that your able to adjust rebound and dampening separately😱
@s00p3rman5 жыл бұрын
Awesome idea, and really decent Fab work man. I'd probably tie the two center brackets together with a plate welded on the front and back. All the stress is going to be on those center brackets trying to push together. Or better yet, just make both brackets out of one plate. You could then have 2-4 more holes drilled so you can further adjust ride height or use different coilovers down the road just by moving that center pivot point in or out.
